Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Apology From the Uchiha? I Refuse
Fugaku Uchiha believed that Chinya and the Uchiha Clan could never reconcile.
But Uchiha Masaki didn't share that view.
As the head of the Uchiha Clan, Uchiha Masaki had a strong grasp of the bigger picture.
Still, his instinct was always filtered through the lens of being Konoha's most powerful clan.
Uchiha Masaki firmly believed that if the Uchiha—the village's premier ninja clan—extended an olive branch to Chinya, there'd be no reason at all for him to refuse.
Uchiha Masaki rubbed his temples, constantly evaluating Chinya's value in his mind.
The more Uchiha Masaki thought about it, the more value he saw in Chinya.
It wasn't because of Chinya's talent or strength—but rather because of his identity.
He was clearly part of the Hokage faction—nurtured by Hiruzen Sarutobi and a disciple of Orochimaru, one of the legendary Sannin (Three Legendary Ninja).
Right now, the Uchiha were completely isolated—no one wanted anything to do with them, not even Hiruzen Sarutobi.
At this point, aside from controlling the Konoha Military Police Force, the Uchiha had completely fallen out of Konoha's inner circle.
If Chinya became a core figure within the Hokage faction, he might serve as a bridge between the Uchiha and Hiruzen.
But only on the condition that Chinya held no grudges against the Uchiha and was willing to help the clan.
Uchiha Masaki thought for a long time, while Fugaku Uchiha respectfully gave him space.
Based on what Fugaku Uchiha knew about his father, he could already guess at least part of what was going through Uchiha Masaki's mind.
After a long pause, Uchiha Masaki finally spoke to Fugaku Uchiha: "Fugaku Uchiha, tomorrow you should go visit Chinya at Orochimaru's base. Bring with you some Fire Release technique scrolls and notes on Sharingan usage."
Fugaku Uchiha gave a slight sigh.
Just as he expected.
Fugaku Uchiha said to his hopeful old father: "Father, you yourself just acknowledged that Chinya will never return to the Uchiha again. What's the point of doing this?"
Uchiha Masaki replied firmly: "There is meaning in it. Because I never intended for him to come back. That chance has already passed. My purpose here is simply to make him hold favorable feelings toward the Uchiha Clan and not treat us as enemies.
If he keeps growing like this, he'll almost certainly become a core member of the Hokage faction. And he carries half of the Uchiha bloodline within him. You understand what I mean now, don't you, Fugaku Uchiha?"
Fugaku Uchiha understood his father's intentions.
However, he still felt it would be difficult for Chinya to truly develop positive feelings toward the Uchiha Clan.
After all, years of hatred couldn't simply be erased by a few jutsu scrolls and Sharingan notes.
But he also knew his father's nature—if Uchiha Masaki had made up his mind, there was no changing it.
Fugaku Uchiha nodded and said, "I understand, Father."
Uchiha Masaki nodded approvingly. "Good. Also, Fugaku Uchiha, you must work harder too—not letting an outsider with only half the Uchiha bloodline outshine you."
Fugaku Uchiha felt a bitter pang in his chest. He wanted to awaken the Sharingan too—and hated that Chinya, who was only half Uchiha, kept outshining him. But what could he do if his Sharingan refused to activate no matter how hard he tried?
The Sharingan wasn't something you could unlock just by trying hard—it didn't even come with a user manual.
...
The next day.
Chinya woke up as usual before dawn.
Orochimaru still hadn't returned yet.
But Orochimaru had promised to take him to Ryūchi Cave today to make a summoning contract, so he should be back today.
Chinya arrived at the training ground inside the Underground Base and started his daily training.
After training alone for two or three hours, Chinya suddenly sensed the barrier outside the base had been triggered.
Orochimaru had placed a barrier around his base—if anyone activated it, Orochimaru would feel it immediately.
For convenience, Orochimaru had also given Chinya permission; when someone triggered it, Chinya could sense it too.
Chinya grabbed a towel and wiped the sweat off his face. As he headed toward the base's exit, he muttered, "Come to look for Sensei Orochimaru, huh?"
As Chinya stepped out of the base entrance, his eyes narrowed.
Spotting the familiar Uchiha clan emblem, he crossed his arms over his chest, leaned casually against the doorway, and stared at Fugaku Uchiha while sneering, "Tsk, actually found your way here? No wonder the Uchiha never let a slight go unnoticed. Came knocking first thing this morning about last night's little incident.
But really, sending a brat like you after me—don't you think that's kind of inappropriate? Where's the Konoha Military Police? Shouldn't they be the ones coming after me—the insolent scum who dared harm a noble Uchiha?"
Fugaku's face twisted as Chinya's sarcasm hit him.
A brat? Who was this guy calling him a brat when he himself was younger?
Fugaku bowed slightly. "Chinya, you've misunderstood. I came here on behalf of the Uchiha Clan to apologize for Yuun and Kazuma's behavior yesterday."
Chinya frowned briefly, then relaxed again, speaking with the same biting tone: "Oh? Back when I first arrived in Konoha, I got bullied plenty by Uchihas. Yet somehow, I don't remember any of you showing up to apologize back then. Now you're suddenly in such a hurry?
Let me guess—is it because of *this* reason?"
Chinya pointed toward the base.
This Underground Base belonged to Orochimaru. The meaning behind the gesture was obvious—it was only because of Orochimaru that they were apologizing.
Of course, just Orochimaru alone wouldn't be enough to make the proud Uchiha apologize—but the person behind Orochimaru definitely carried enough weight: Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Fugaku's heart tightened. He realized this little brat—who was actually younger than him—might prove quite troublesome.
Moreover, Fugaku now clearly understood that wanting Chinya to develop goodwill toward the Uchiha Clan was practically impossible.
Fugaku quickly got to the point: "Chinya, our apology is sincere. Here are scrolls containing Fire Release Ninjutsu techniques and Sharingan techniques manuals from the Uchiha Clan—as proof of our sincerity."
Fugaku tossed over the two scrolls.
Chinya caught the scrolls and weighed them in his hand. "So part of the reason you're apologizing is because of my Sharingan, huh? I honestly thought you'd shamelessly try dragging me back into the Uchiha Clan now that you've seen me activate it. Guess you still have *some* brains left after all."
Fugaku Uchiha slightly lowered his head, his cheeks faintly flushed red.
If not for Kushina Uzumaki, Chinya's father Uchiha Masaki really might have forced him back into the Uchiha Clan.
Fugaku bowed and said, "Since Chinya has accepted the Uchiha Clan's apology, I'll take my leave first."
Just as Fugaku turned to leave, Chinya suddenly said, "Wait a second. You're being way too presumptuous here, aren't you? When exactly did I say I accepted your apology?"
Fugaku frowned at Chinya, clearly confused by his meaning.
The moment Chinya acted, Fugaku was instantly consumed with fury.
Lightning crackled around Chinya's hands as he tightened his grip on the two scrolls. The intense heat ignited them instantly, turning both scrolls to ash.
Chinya sneered at Fugaku as he spat out each word coldly, "I will *not* accept your Uchiha apology!"
