Chapter 27: Chapter 27: C-Rank Mission
Chinya was undergoing rigorous training in Orochimaru's underground base.
Orochimaru's training was nothing like what ordinary teachers would do—starting off with heavy tasks to mentally prepare the student. Instead, it seemed deceptively easy. At first glance, Chinya thought he could handle it effortlessly, but once the training began, he quickly realized how wrong he was.
It was a dual torment—both physical and mental—a crushing sense of despair, as if his future had no hope at all.
Still, Orochimaru's teaching skills were truly top-class. He tailored his instruction to his student's strengths. Whenever Chinya showed a weakness, Orochimaru pointed it out instantly and sharpened the training accordingly.
If only Orochimaru summoned fewer snakes.
Chinya had already trained in the underground base for nearly a month.
Ordinary snakes no longer posed any threat to him.
Now, not only was he weighed down by heavy blocks strapped to his body, but the snakes he trained against were actual Ryuchi Cave snakes—imbued with chakra and far stronger than ordinary snakes.
More than once, those snakes had left Chinya battered and bruised.
He had also recently learned the Shadow Clone Jutsu—not the A-rank forbidden technique Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu, just the standard version. He could only produce a single clone.
He wanted to try using shadow clones to train, just like Naruto did.
Good grief, that time almost knocked him out cold.
The memories and experiences from the clone returned to his original body—and so did the fatigue.
Double exhaustion—it felt like he might just bite the dust.
But nothing beat the time the System simulated Thunder Breathing through his body—that was a whole new level of hell. Even now, remembering it made Chinya shiver involuntarily.
Because of that, Chinya now mostly used his shadow clones to study ninja techniques before transferring the knowledge back to his original body, saving himself a lot of time.
Each day, he pushed both his stamina and chakra reserves to their absolute limits.
However, every evening Orochimaru gave him a special liquid to drink.
According to Orochimaru, it was a nutrient-rich solution he developed himself, capable of replenishing the body's essential nutrients and eliminating fatigue.
After drinking the nutrient solution each night and sleeping through the evening, all of Chinya's exhaustion vanished by morning.
You could say Chinya's ability to endure such intense daily training came down largely to this nutrient solution.
Today, Orochimaru was unusually absent from the underground base. In the morning, he simply told Chinya to train on his own before leaving.
Even without Orochimaru watching over him, however, Chinya didn't slack off in the least.
After all, he was training for himself—not for anyone else.
Morning training ended quickly. Chinya removed the weights from his body, wiped the sweat off with a towel, and planned to eat something before starting his afternoon ninja techniques practice.
Normally, Orochimaru handled the cooking, while Chinya focused purely on training.
But with Orochimaru gone today, Chinya had to make his own meals.
Just as he was about to cook some udon noodles for lunch, Orochimaru returned.
Dressed in full ninja attire, Orochimaru said to Chinya, "I've accepted a C-rank mission for you. Let's depart immediately."
Chinya put down the vegetables he was preparing for the side dish and said in surprise, "Huh? So sudden?"
Orochimaru stood with arms crossed, leaning against the doorway as he watched Chinya. "About time. This C-rank mission is to eliminate a gang of bandits. It's also the perfect opportunity to test your training results from this past month."
Chinya shook the water from his hands. "Alright, I'll get my katana real fast."
At that moment, Orochimaru threw something toward Chinya.
Chinya caught it and looked—it was a ninja tool pouch.
Inside the pouch neatly arranged were five Kunai, some Shuriken, and several Explosive Tags.
"Thank you, Sensei Orochimaru."
Chinya attached the pouch to himself. As someone completely broke, Chinya couldn't afford ninja tools like these on his own—especially not Explosive Tags, which were outrageously expensive, costing several times more than Kunai.
Right now, Chinya essentially eats what Orochimaru gives him, drinks what Orochimaru provides, and lives in Orochimaru's home.
Now even receiving ninja tools from Orochimaru made him feel somewhat embarrassed.
Grabbing his katana, Chinya followed Orochimaru out of Konoha.
After many years, leaving Konoha once again left Chinya feeling slightly disoriented.
Thinking about his parents, Chinya's mood sank a bit.
His parents truly were wonderful—they loved him dearly.
Without those four happy years, aside from whether or not Chinya would've survived, he felt that in this ruthless Shinobi World, he'd likely have become a soulless puppet, drifting without hope or purpose.
Having experienced happiness, Chinya now fought—for himself, for Kushina Uzumaki, and for the future.
"Hm, thinking about something?"
Orochimaru, extremely sensitive to human emotions, noticed Chinya's mood dip.
Chinya took a deep breath and smiled. "Nothing much, just realizing this is the first time I've left the village since returning. I'm just a little excited, that's all."
Orochimaru glanced at Chinya and gave a quiet chuckle. "Is that so…"
Naturally, Orochimaru could tell Chinya wasn't excited—he was clearly reminiscing about something.
And as for what he was reminiscing about, considering Kushina Uzumaki was the only friend Chinya had in Konoha, and she was still alive, obviously he wasn't missing her.
So there was no doubt Chinya was thinking about his parents.
...
The destination for this mission was the Rice Country (Tanigakure).
A small country bordering Konoha, the Rice Country lacked its own ninja village.
Due to the indifferent rule—and complete lack of leadership—from the Daimyo of Rice Country, bandits ran rampant throughout the land.
This C-rank mission Orochimaru accepted on Chinya's behalf was to wipe out a group of bandits who had been pillaging and massacring several villages across the Rice Country.
Chinya and Orochimaru stood atop a hill, overlooking the noisy village below.
This entire village was now filled with bandits—the villagers had already been slaughtered.
Judging by the scene, they seemed to be holding a banquet celebrating their rampage.
Orochimaru spoke up, "For this mission, you must kill every single bandit in this village. At the same time, you are forbidden from using Thunder Breathing. However, you may use your Katana techniques, ninjutsu, taijutsu, and Sharingan. Understand?"
Chinya nodded solemnly. "I understand."
"Then let's begin."
Chinya vanished instantly using Shifting Body Jutsu.
Chinya arrived alone at the village.
First, Chinya swept through the village, checking how many people were inside.
This village had been massacred by bandits—every house held corpses. Men, women, and children alike had been slaughtered, leaving only the bandits alive.
All the bandits were gathered together in the central square of the village, holding a banquet.
Having all the bandits clustered together made things much easier for Chinya.
After setting up slightly, Chinya stealthily approached the bandits' gathering spot.
The bandits clutched cups of wine, while piles of stolen loot lay scattered in the center of the square. Each was smeared with dried, dark blood, laughing wildly as they boasted about how many they'd slaughtered—and how brutally.
Chinya pulled out a single kunai from the Ninja Tool Pouch and glared at the celebrating bandits ahead with a cold, murderous intent.
