Naruto: Chakra System

CHAPTER 77] Gaining a Bijuu's Friendship Isn't as Simple as Buying a Tomato from the Market

Kakashi watched as Naruto sank into a deep thought, his gaze fixed on Kurama. The colossal fox was still lying down, its eyes closed, yet Kakashi couldn't shake the feeling that it was gritting its teeth. Plus this not so usual stillness was new from Naruto, and it intrigued him.

"Naruto," Kakashi nudged him gently, "you're lost in thought. What's on your mind?"

Before Naruto could answer, Fuu bounded over to them, her orange eyes wide with genuine curiosity. "Are they called Titanic Beasts or Godzillas?"

"Ahem..." Kakashi cleared his throat, feeling a little embarrassed. He had only called them Godzillas as a joke. Now, facing Fuu's earnest question, he had to give a real answer. "No, neither. They're actually called Bijuu, Tailed-Beasts. The one behind you is the one sealed inside you. It's the same for you, Naruto; that fox is sealed inside you."

As he paused, Fuu nodded quickly, while Naruto gave a small nod in understanding. Kakashi hadn't brought them here just to clarify things. He had much more to tell them, especially Naruto. Kakashi had never forgotten his ultimate goal— to help Naruto and Sasuke reach a level beyond that of a normal Kage.

For Sasuke, that journey would likely start with the Mangekyō Sharingan before moving to the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, which Kakashi knew would take time and careful planning. But for Naruto, things were more straightforward. If Naruto could become friends with Kurama, he could easily become a Kage-level powerhouse. With consistent training, he could reach the level he achieved in the Fourth Great Ninja War in the anime, before gaining Six Paths Sage Mode from Hagoromo.

This was why Kakashi had brought them here. With Fuu present, it would be easier to explain the situation to Naruto, as they were both Jinchūriki. Seeing Naruto in such a contemplative state, Kakashi felt that things would indeed go smoothly.

"Hey, Naruto," Fuu cheered, "We both have a Bijuu sealed inside us! We're so alike, hehe!"

Naruto smiled at her enthusiasm, while Kakashi chuckled and shook his head. This was certainly not the reaction anyone would expect after finding out a titanic beast was sealed inside them and was the reason for their isolation.

Only Fuu could remain so cheerful.

She immediately turned back to Chōmei. "Hey, Bijuu, is that your real name, or do you have another one?"

Fuu's sudden question made the giant beetle-like Tailed-Beast tilt its helmet-like head. Not only was Chōmei taken aback, but so was Kakashi. He turned to face Chōmei, and Naruto also fixed his gaze on the giant beetle, curious to hear what it would say.

Thankfully...

They didn't have to wait long.

"No, Bijuu isn't my name, Fuu," Chōmei replied, easily and calmly.

Fuu's eyes shone as she asked, "Wow, you know my name! Then what's your real name?"

Chōmei tilted its giant head and chuckled. "That's not easy. You humans call us by our tails, so my name in your way is Nanabi or Shichibi. But to know my real name, that's difficult. I can't tell you, not when my brother is right in front of my sight, in a similar situation as mine."

"Awww, come on. You know my name, but I don't know yours. That's not fair," Fuu complained, pouting. "Then what do I need to do to know your real name?"

She looked at Chōmei with curiosity and anticipation. Naruto also perked up, thinking that if he learned the secret, he might be also approach and try it with the giant orange fox who was still slumbering.

Chōmei didn't respond for a few seconds. Kakashi sighed, thinking that it wouldn't tell them so easily, despite its easygoing personality. Thinking, perhaps Kurama's presence was also a factor here.

"Fuu, knowing the true name of your Bijuu is much more than just knowing a name," Kakashi spoke, turning their heads toward him.

Fuu looked at him with an expectant gaze. "Do you know how?"

"Yeah, I know. It's simple, but it's complex at the same time," Kakashi replied with a chuckle.

Fuu and Naruto nodded swiftly, their gazes glued to Kakashi. He chuckled again and said, "It's about gaining their approval and becoming their... true friends. Only then can you know their true names, along with the access to their power."

"OHHHH!" Fuu nodded, slamming her fist into her other palm as if she completely understood. Naruto returned to his usual self, crossing his arms and nodding continuously. Kakashi, however, was not focused on them.

He turned to his left, where Kurama was still in a slumber, and thought, 'I felt it fidget when I finished talking. It looks like I was right; it's just pretending to be asleep. Haa, what a tsundere, just as I remember him.'

Chōmei also gave Kakashi a curious and surprised look with its giant orange-red eyes, about to say something, but Fuu interrupted.

"Hey, let's be friends then!" Fuu announced, her smile stretching from ear to ear, regaining Chōmei's attention.

"Hahaha," the giant beetle laughed as its wings flapped. "You want to be my friend? Why? You don't know much about me, but I've known you for a long time, Fuu."

Fuu tilted her head before her mouth formed an "O" of realization, as Chōmei already knew her name. She asked, "So, you don't want to be my friend?"

Chōmei didn't speak.

The silence in the area stretched, and with each passing second, Fuu began to look sad. She lowered her head, expecting no response from Chōmei and assuming the answer was "NO".

But then, Chōmei suddenly spoke, "Prove it."

Fuu immediately looked up at Chōmei. "Huh? What do you mean? What do I need to prove?"

Chōmei replied, "Prove to me that you really want to be my friend."

"???" Fuu tilted her head again, clearly confused. "Huh? But what do I need to do for that?" She asked, but got no response from Chōmei, which made her think more deeply.

Naruto also started to think about it and asked Kakashi, "Kakashi-sensei, would I also need to prove something if I want to be friends with my Bijuu?"

'Oh! He's already thinking about becoming friends with Kurama, and I haven't even explained the whole situation yet. That's a good pace; things will definitely go smoothly,' Kakashi thought, satisfied with how things were progressing here, better than he initially expected.

In response to Naruto's question, Kakashi simply nodded. Fuu then turned to Kakashi and asked, "Hey, um, Kakashi-sensei?"

Kakashi simply said, "Don't worry, you can call me that too, or just simply Kakashi."

Fuu nodded with a smile. "Then, Kakashi-chan, what do I need to do to prove my willingness to be friends with my Bijuu?"

Fuu and Naruto both looked at Kakashi with intense, expectant gazes. Kakashi's brow twitched, but wasn't sure if it's because of their intense, curious gazes...

Or because Fuu calling him 'Kakashi-chan'

He sighed softly and said, "I'm not going to spoon-feed you everything! Didn't I just tell you that friendship with the Bijuu isn't just about knowing their name and being casual? If I were to tell you all this, then you're not cut out to gain their approval."

Hearing Kakashi's explanation, they exchanged glances. They didn't seem disappointed but nodded in understanding. Both of them started to think more deeply about it.

Think...

Think...
