CHAPTER 76] Casual Meeting With The Giant Beetle
When their vision returned, they found themselves in a vast, green garden under a clean, sky-blue sky. A warm, comfortable light illuminated the peaceful space, making it feel simple yet welcoming.
"Where are we?!"
Naruto and Fuu exclaimed in shock, a smile on both their faces as they found themselves in such a beautiful place. They looked around, seeing nothing but the expanse of green grass and weeds before turning to Kakashi.
'It worked?' Kakashi thought, a little in disbelief, before replying to the curious duo. "This place is my mindscape, where I've grabbed your consciousness and brought those Godzillas that are sealed inside you."
"Godzillas?" question marks appeared above their heads, only because of the word 'Godzillas'. All they could see around, was the green garden. Aside from themselves and Kakashi, there was no one else present.
Their gazes swept the area for a few seconds before, behind Naruto and Fuu, the space rippled and huge cage with red bars started to appear. They snapped their heads back. Behind Naruto was a colossal, orange fox inside a surprisingly even larger black cage with red bars, where inscribed a Kanji symbol for "Seal". The fox, with its nine flaming tails, was casually napping.
Kurama, or rather, the Yang-Half of Kurama, the Nine-Tails.
Behind Fuu was a similar huge black cage with giant red bars, with similar Kanji symbol inscribed. Inside, another titanic beast was, not napping but standing, looking at them curiously with what appeared to be small but were actually giant orange-red insect eyes.
It was covered in blue, armor-like plates similar to a Kabutomushi, with a helmet-like skull covering its head. Its orange-red eyes glowed from inside. The lower half of its body was green and orange, with a snake-like structure leading to its one massive tail, which branched out into six giant insectoid wings.
Chōmei, the Seven-Tails.
While Naruto was gazing intently at the giant orange fox, his expression was a mix of curiosity and sadness, but still a complicated feeling that was hard to describe.
Fuu's expression, however, was one of pure joy, as if she had finally met a long-lost friend.
"Waaaaah!"
Fuu cheered, which confused Kakashi. Naruto also turned around and was dumbfounded to see another titanic beast in the beautiful surroundings.
'This... This shouldn't be the first reaction any kid has upon seeing a Tailed-Beast, even if it's caged!' Kakashi thought as he watched Fuu's orange eyes, which were shining even more brightly at Chōmei.
Kakashi himself was feeling a little intimidated by the raw chakra and power emanating from the two Tailed-Beasts, which far surpassed his own. He knew he would be lying if he said he was completely okay. He wasn't only confused by Fuu's reaction but also, just a little, by Naruto's, who didn't show the typical anger he would have expected upon seeing Kurama for the first time.
Kakashi and Naruto glanced back and forth at Kurama and Chōmei, the titanic sealed beasts, for a moment. But Fuu, stood straight towards Chōmei, and for some unknown reason, was simply delighted.
'I don't recall much about Fuu, aside from the fact that she's Chōmei's Jinchūriki and always wanted friends. Maybe she knows about Chōmei or something beforehand...' Kakashi shrugged, unable to form a reasonable explanation for Fuu's delightful expressions. He then glanced back at Kurama, who was still napping. 'Is it really sleeping? And why am I getting the feeling that Kurama is gritting its teeth? Ahem... whatever, let's look at Fuu's case first.'
"So, you are the reason why people distance themselves from me, huh!" Fuu huffed, crossing her arms, but her expressions betrayed her. She didn't look angry or hateful in any way.
"It... seems so," the Seven-Tails answered with a small laugh as it rose even higher, surprising Kakashi. He wondered if it wasn't already standing or if that was just its height while sitting. What would be Kurama's true height when it finally woke up and stood?
"Kakashi-sensei, are these the Godzillas you were referring to?" Naruto asked, lightly gripping Kakashi's shirt, his expression still a little saddened.
Kakashi nodded and thought, 'Looks like both of them know about having a Tailed-Beast sealed inside them. I know Naruto got this information from Mizuki, but how was Fuu so sure? Her reaction certainly isn't normal.'
"Fuu, Naruto, as you two have guessed or already have some idea, these titanic beasts are the reason for your isolation until now," Kakashi spoke, getting their attention with a clap.
He then looked at them to see their reactions. Naruto's expression was the same, with his shoulders slightly slumped, while Fuu, this time, had a surprised look as she also noticed the presence of another giant beast behind Naruto.
"Naruto, no need to look so sad. Didn't you just say something about making people believe you're not the demon fox?" Kakashi said, putting a hand on Naruto's shoulder gently.
Naruto looked up at Kakashi, then smiled as wide as he could, making all the previous sadness vanish from his face. "I... I know about it. Mizuki told me, but seeing it in real life... maybe the villagers were right, even if I'm not a demon, I have a demon inside me."
Kakashi nodded as he looked at Naruto, who was speaking his true feelings with a genuine smile on his face. Kakashi thought, 'In the anime, Naruto met Kurama when he was training with Jiraiya before the finals of the Chūnin Exams, but the circumstances are different.'
He then turned to Fuu and asked, "What are your thoughts on this? You've had this beast sealed inside you for most of your life."
Fuu put her hand on her chin, then looked at Naruto. She admitted to herself that it wasn't entirely true if she were to say she wasn't a little sad about finally seeing the reason for her isolated treatment. However, she didn't have any hatred. Unlike Naruto, she hadn't received as much hate from those around her. Hisen and now Shibuki genuinely cared about her safety, and despite her isolated treatment, she had never grown as hateful as Gaara had.
"I also knew about it; I just didn't know it was really a giant beetle, an insect." she suddenly beamed and spoke, "You know, I can fly. I don't know exactly how, but now I know."
She turned to sealed Chōmei behind red bars, who was still silently and curiously glancing at them. "You were the reason for these special flight abilities, right? The beetle wings I can summon and grow on my lower back, they're identical to yours. That was you, right?"
Kakashi nodded but was internally confused. He didn't have much information about Fuu, even from the anime. It had been years since he watched Naruto anime in his last life, and while his sharp memory allowed him to recall much of the plot and future, Fuu had such a limited appearance that Kakashi remembered even less about her. He didn't remember how strong Fuu actually was or what her abilities were.
"So, you two don't hate them?" Kakashi asked, his hands clasped behind his back, his eyes closed and covered before he slowly opened his right eye to look at them. Fuu's face clearly showed that she didn't have much of a problem with it. Naruto's expression, however, was more complex.
Hate?
Who should he hate?
Looking at the giant fox, which was still "surprisingly" napping, Naruto wasn't so sure. This beast had been sealed inside him, completely isolated for years.
Just like him...
But it was also the reason for his isolation. He wasn't sure what to think of it.
