My Wives are Beautiful Demons

Chapter 359: 'That thing'

Vergil stepped back into the silent suite, followed by Roxanne. The sound of footsteps on the marble floor sounded heavier now. The aroma of coffee and the soft scent of fresh flowers already seemed distant, almost unreal.

He stopped in the center of the suite's main hall. His purple eyes fixed on a spot on the floor in front of him. Then he raised one hand, his fingers dancing in the air as if tracing invisible symbols. The atmosphere changed almost instantly—the air grew denser, vibrating with a hidden energy that seemed to pulse beneath the skin.

"I hate wearing these things!" Roxanne felt a chill run down her spine.

From the floor, lines of spectral red light began to form in concentric circles, spinning in opposite directions with mystical precision. Ancient runes and demonic symbols of the Agares clan appeared between the lines, glowing with an intensity that human eyes should not be able to bear — but she could. She always could.

Vergil's magic was beautiful, despite its intimidating air. And now, it took shape before them like a bridge between worlds.

A faint hum spread through the air as the magic circle was completed. Sparks floated around them like fragments of living energy, and the center of the circle began to become translucent — like the surface of an obsidian lake that reflected shadows instead of light.

Roxanne watched silently, her expression serious but steady. The contrast was strange: just a moment ago, they had been playing with fruit pies. Now, they were about to cross the veil between realities.

Vergil stepped forward, the wind conjured by the portal's own energy making his shirt flutter, revealing part of the scar on his chest.

"We're going straight to the underworld. Ada is in the lower fortress, in the command chamber."

Roxanne just nodded, already beside him.

Vergil reached out to her, his fingers intertwining with hers naturally.

"Ready?"

She took a deep breath. 'Whenever I'm with you.'

They crossed the circle together.

The moment their feet touched the center, the ground disappeared beneath them—not like a fall, but as if they had been sucked into a vortex of living energy. Sound disappeared, light bent, and everything around them turned into a tunnel of shadows and ethereal glows.

Roxanne felt the pressure of the dimensional shift tighten her skin for an instant, but she didn't let go of his hand.

The portal opened with a subtle crack, like the sound of a mirror being shattered from within. A flash of light cut through the air of the grand entrance hall of Sapphire's mansion — an ancient building with immense columns and Gothic windows that exuded power and respect.

Vergil and Roxanne emerged from the magic circle, side by side. Their boots touched the dark marble floor firmly. The energy of the underworld still vibrated around them, like residual electricity escaping through their clothes and hair.

The mansion was strangely silent. There were no screams, no explosions, not even hurried footsteps. Just the sound of... something falling.

MANY objects falling.

"AAAAAIIII!" came the scream, followed by a crash of clothes, metal, and something that sounded suspiciously like a glass jar breaking on the floor.

Vergil and Roxanne turned to the left side of the hall and saw the chaos unfolding in real time.

Vivane, completely distracted, had entered the room with a huge basket of clothes in her arms—so big that she could barely see the path ahead. As soon as she felt the energy of the portal behind her, she let out a little scream and turned abruptly... just enough to trip over her own feet.

The result was almost cinematic: the basket flew into the air, clothes fluttered like pigeons being released, and she fell backward with a muffled sound, wrapped in robes, underwear, socks, and a black bra (definitely not hers).

"WHAT THE... AAAAAA—OH MY BACK!" she groaned, struggling amid the fabric as if she had been swallowed by a traveling laundry.

Roxanne's eyes widened, clearly surprised, then she put her hand over her mouth, trying to stifle her laughter.

Vergil just sighed. Longly.

Vivane, lying on the floor with panties hanging from her left horn, slowly raised her face and widened her eyes when she saw who was there.

"OH, FOR LUCIFER'S SAKE — VERGIL??" She tried to get up, slipped on a sock, and fell again. "Damn it, no one warns me when you guys are going to teleport in the middle of the room!"

"You should pay more attention," said Vergil, holding back laughter, but with a slight twinkle in his eyes — almost as if this familiar disaster was a welcome comic relief after Ada's tense warning.

"I should pay—! Oh my god!" Vivane fell backward, tangling herself in more clothes...

...and now she had a sock wrapped around her right horn and a sheer silk nightgown partially covering her face. Roxanne could no longer contain her laughter, doubling over slightly as she pointed with a trembling finger.

"Viv, this is... this is a summoning of chaos, not a reception!" Roxanne laughed, and Viviane could only feel embarrassed as she removed the items...

Vergil raised his hand and lifted Viviane with a purple energy, setting her on her feet, "Calm down, sorry to scare you, dear."

Viviane hovered in the air for a brief moment before touching her feet gently on the ground, as if she had been lifted by invisible, careful hands. The purple energy that sustained her dissipated with a slight crackle, leaving a faint glow in the air. She stood, still a little dazed, with a sock slowly slipping off her horn.

Vergil took a step forward, his expression returning to seriousness, though his eyes still held a spark of restrained humor.

"Vivane," he said, his voice deep and calm. "Where is Ada?"

She blinked, taking a deep breath. "Ada...? Oh! Yes, of course!" She finally removed the nightgown from her face, trying to appear more composed than she was. "She went to the inner garden with Sapphire. They were discussing something about the latest interference... It seems that thing has been reacting quite a bit lately."

"What thing?" Roxanne asked, her tone returning to its tense state.

Vivane sighed, running her hand through her blue hair and tossing the now-empty basket aside. "Your mother came here with Sapphire and gave that thing to Ada, telling her to call you. Then they took it outside."

"Viviane, what is 'that thing'?" Vergil asked.

"That strange blue orb," Viviane said, shrugging her shoulders.
