Chapter 360: Seal is Broken
Roxanne walked away with soft steps, her hair swaying gently behind her as she disappeared down the hallway.
Vivane, meanwhile, had already begun to gather up the scattered items with an expression somewhere between resignation and mild frustration. She picked up socks, underwear, and even the strange bra (which she tossed back into the basket without much ceremony).
"These clothes could at least stop multiplying... It's like drawer magic," she muttered to herself.
She piled everything back into the basket, grumbling about bad luck and portals that never warn you when they're going to open. With a quick nod to Vergil—more of an apology than a goodbye—Vivane left the room, returning to her work.
The hall fell silent once more.
Vergil remained motionless in the same spot for a few moments. His eyes were fixed on the marble floor, but his mind was far away—already feeling the weight of what awaited them in the garden.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a brief moment. Then he let out a long sigh.
Silent.
Roxanne approached silently, the soft smile still playing on her lips even though her eyes reflected growing concern. She touched Vergil's arm lightly, the warmth of the contact almost imperceptible — but enough to bring him back to the present.
Before he could say anything, she leaned in and placed a delicate kiss on his cheek.
"I'm going to take a shower, solve your problems," she said in a low voice, close to his ear. 'We'll continue our hot games later.'
Vergil just nodded, without turning around, but she knew he had heard her.
Vergil stood there for a few more seconds after Roxanne left, feeling the touch still fresh on his face, like a small anchor of calm amid the whirlwind of thoughts.
But time was a luxury he could no longer waste.
His footsteps echoed firmly on the polished marble as he crossed the empty hall. The double doors leading to the inner garden were ajar, letting in a breath of warm air, laden with the scent of wet earth and crimson flowers growing under the bluish light of the underworld.
As he approached, the mystical aura of the place became more noticeable—it was as if the garden itself breathed, alive, alert.
Vergil pushed the doors open with one hand, revealing the inner garden: a circular courtyard covered with black vines and flowers that only bloomed under the inverted moon of the underworld. In the center, an ancient fountain spouted water as dark as liquid onyx, surrounded by stone benches and silver-barked trees.
There, in the shade of one of these trees, were Ada and Sapphire.
Ada stood upright as always, her hands clasped behind her back, her eyes fixed on something that seemed to sink into the ground before them. Sapphire sat on a bench beside her, watching the same object with a look of concern—and caution.
It was the orb.
The same thing Vivane had mentioned. A pulsating blue sphere suspended in the air, surrounded by delicate filaments of energy that extended like luminous veins into the surrounding space. The surface glowed with a restless glow, as if breathing on its own. It was that orb that contained the Platinum Dragon Empress, sealed away ages ago during the great wars.
Ada turned her face away as soon as she sensed Vergil's presence approaching. She did not smile. She just nodded, as if acknowledging that the inevitable had finally arrived.
"You took your time," she said, her voice firm, low, and laden with meaning.
Vergil stopped a few steps away from the fountain where the orb floated, his hands in his pockets and still looking a little distant. "Well," he replied slowly, "I was on a date. I didn't exactly have control of the situation when the call came."
Sapphire, sitting on a bench in the shade of a silver tree, looked up. Her amber irises sparkled with an almost feline intensity. "This thing is calling you," she said calmly, her tone direct and sharp as an obsidian blade. "Ever since you crossed the portal, the energy has reacted."
Vergil raised an eyebrow and glanced briefly at the woman—as serene as she was dangerous, even with that Spartan calm she cultivated as a lethal art.
"Wanting me?" He crossed his arms, his attention now fully focused on the orb that lay partially sunk into the garden floor. Crystalline cracks had begun to form around it, the grass freezing beneath the sphere's feet. Pure ice—ancient, dense magic, overflowing from the seal. "So the crazy thing is finally waking up..."
The orb pulsed in response, as if it had heard.
Ada did not look away. "Not completely. Not yet. But the seal is... cracking. At least that's what your mother said."
Vergil stared at the hypnotic glow of the sphere, the blue reflection illuminating his face with an icy light.
"Was it because of Spectre?" Vergil murmured, his eyes still fixed on the orb. 'When he started forcing me to try to wake her up... all of this started to react.'
Sapphire rose with a lazy sigh, stretching her arms above her head as if this conversation did not involve forces capable of destroying entire kingdoms.
"Nah," she said, relaxing her shoulders. 'I think it was about time. Your mother went after the other one.' She paused briefly, almost thoughtfully, before adding, "It seems that the seal of the two is synchronizing. The awakening... is inevitable."
Vergil looked away from her, a crooked smile appearing despite the tension. "The two dragons, the two Empresses... awakening precisely in the Age in which I was born. How convenient." His voice carried a hint of sarcasm, but without any real humor.
The silence that followed was thick.
He frowned.
"Don't you think you're being too serious?" he asked, his tone now more direct. 'Ada, fine... but you, Sapphire?'
He looked from one to the other, and for a moment, the weight of the situation seemed to double upon him.
Sapphire stared at Vergil over her shoulder, her amber eyes calmer than usual—but there was something more there. Something even she couldn't completely hide.
"When a Dragon Empress begins whispering through a millennial seal," she said, with a half-smile devoid of warmth, "even I become a little more... focused." Sapphire spoke, "She is a SUPREME Class Threat. She is worse than a god of destruction. Even Shiva would be afraid to battle one of the two Empresses." She revealed.
