My Hitman System

Chapter 168: Memories in the Sand (E)

When the night descended, the four of them were back to scorpion hunting.

"The trick is to move with your toes, like this," Jin demonstrated it to the other three. His figure, although way slower than brown, immediately picked up speed and covered a distance.

"Woah!"

"So, it was like that!"

"Mhmm,"

Shadow, Specy and Ice reacted after seeing his demonstration.

"Just try what we've been doing during the day. Since we are not wearing those bulky shoes anymore, the increase in pace is very tangible," Jin stated.

"You're right!" Shadow, who had already attempted it, exclaimed from a distance.

The other two also gave it a shot and were elated.

"Alright, let's go and catch some scorpions then," Jin said, and everyone soon went their own ways.

After learning this method, they too were confident about filling their containers.

They finished the task fairly quickly and returned to the hut by one in the morning with all their containers packed with scorpions.

"Impressive work," Brown praised when he saw this. He soon collected the boxes and got himself busy for the night.

Meanwhile, the four of them returned back to their shelters to rest.

While the movement skill was fun to use, it was also taxing to the body, and everyone was exhausted.

Just a few minutes after entering their shelters, the sounds of snores could be heard. Jin chuckled at this and was about to sleep as well when he noticed something.

Under the moon's light, he saw a familiar figure getting out and going somewhere.

'Where is she going now?' Jin thought and discreetly followed after her.

With a flashlight, Ice seemed to be looking for something. At first, she trailed her way back to Brown's hut, then trailed it back to the desert.

She was aimlessly moving her torch everywhere and desperately trying to search for something.

Jin couldn't hold himself back anymore and revealed himself.

"What are you looking for?" He asked.

Surprised at first, Ice directed the torch's beam on Jin's face, making him squint.

Realising that it was Jin, she calmed down a bit but asked with a frown, "Why are you following me?"

"I was curious," Jin replied as he raised his hand to block the beam of light.

"Go away, I don't need your help," She replied in annoyance and got back to searching.

"It's important, right? With my help, the chances of you finding it will increase," Jin replied.

Hearing him, Ice's face showed a hint of hesitation before she finally made a decision.

"It's a golden locket…" she muttered.

"Got it," Jin nodded in understanding and started looking out for the locket as well.

He took out the torch he had carried with him and started scouring the opposite side.

Time passed, and with each passing minute, uncertainty grew in Ice's heart.

"Where is it…please…please…be here," She muttered under her breath and looked for it even more erratically.

Her face no longer had the earlier cold appearance, it looked more like a woman who had lost something very dear to her.

"It's just a locket, why is she reacting so much over it…" Jin, who managed to hear her words from the side, thought to himself.

However, he still continued to search for it. If he managed to find it, then it was clear that her trust in him would surely skyrocket. It was too good an opportunity to pass.

Therefore, he started looking for the locket with even more vigour.

An hour had passed, but Ice had still not found her locket. It seemed to have been engulfed by this vast desert.

Pain and despair were about to fully cloud her mind when her eyes fell upon Jin, who was still sincerely searching for the locket.

"No, I can't give up just yet." Jin's figure seemed to have given her the strength she needed, and she continued her search.

Another half an hour passed.

The two of them kept looking for the locket without rest, and their efforts were finally rewarded.

As Jin was sifting through the sand, his fingers finally felt something. He took out the object, which was hiding under a layer of sand and wiped the dirt off it.

"Found it!" Jin told Ice as the golden gleam from the locket flashed in his eyes.

Ice's figure immediately rushed towards Jin, and after finding the locket in his hand, a huge wave of relief washed over her.

"Thank you…Thank you so much," Ice thanked Jin with a teary expression while she carefully took the locket off his hands.

She opened up the slot in the locket the next moment. Seeing the picture, tears started pouring down her face as she tightly pressed the locket to her forehead after deeply kissing it.

"My little baby...I thought I'd never see you again... I'm so glad to see you…so glad," Her emotions were so raw that even Jin was somewhat affected.

He turned his head around the next moment and walked a little away to give her space and not get affected by it.

It was only about five minutes later that Ice recovered. It would be a lie to say that Jin wasn't surprised.

Never in these few days had he thought that he would see such emotions pouring out of Ice, who always maintained a distant expression.

"Let's go back then," Jin suggested after seeing that she had calmed down.

Ice nodded.

The two of them started walking back to the shelter.

Ice's earlier outburst had made Jin a little curious, and finding now to be the right opportunity, he asked her out, "Why did you become a hitman? I saw earlier that you have a family."

Earlier, Jin had unintentionally seen the picture in the locket. It was a family picture of three. A man, a woman and a child. That's what made him ask this question.

"I don't. I used to have one…" Ice answered.

A layer of melancholy cascaded over her face the next moment, and she increased her pace back to the shelter.

It was clear that she didn't want to indulge in this topic anymore. Jin understood it and just followed after her.
