Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Memory Enhancement Isn’t Always a Good Thing

Not far from Yuigahama Yui's house—

Su Yu watched as she stepped inside, only turning away once her door had closed.

Would Yui tell Miura Yumiko about what happened today?

He didn't know.

But what he did know—

Was that Hayama Hayato was likely to change after their conversation.

Whether that change would be good or bad…

Su Yu wasn't sure.

He looked up at the night sky, lost in thought.

Returning to Sakurazou

When Su Yu arrived back at Sakurazou, the lights on the first floor were on.

It was only then that he remembered—

Hiratsuka Shizuka had moved in.

He hesitated for a moment, then prepared to head upstairs.

"The groceries are already bought—where are you going?"

A voice called out from behind him.

Turning around, he saw Hiratsuka Shizuka standing there—

Holding two large bags.

One bag was filled with fresh ingredients.

The other?

Canned beer.

"You bought a bit too much," Su Yu noted. "Also, I don't think I can drink alcohol."

"I have another guest coming—she's a former student of mine. We always drink together."

Hiratsuka's tone was casual, but Su Yu immediately guessed who the guest was.

Still, he didn't say anything.

"Now hurry up and put your stuff away," she continued. "Then come help me prep the ingredients."

"Alright. Give me a minute."

Su Yu headed upstairs.

Preparations for the Barbecue

After changing into more comfortable clothes, Su Yu returned downstairs.

He entered Hiratsuka's apartment, swapping into indoor slippers before stepping inside.

The living room was already fully furnished—Hiratsuka had wasted no time getting settled in.

"Stop standing there. Come help me."

She glanced up from the kitchen, her hands busy with food prep.

Su Yu walked in—

And immediately noticed the skewers of neatly arranged meat.

"You know how to grill?"

Hiratsuka smirked.

"A friend from your region taught me back in college. She was a huge foodie and showed me a ton of authentic recipes.

But honestly, I spent so much time eating and cooking that I never had time to find a boyfriend.

If I ever meet her again, I should thank her properly."

She chuckled as she continued working.

Su Yu didn't say much—

He just quietly began skewering the meat.

But as he did, he couldn't help but feel nostalgic.

He missed the street food from his previous world.

The sizzling skewers, the fragrant aroma of seasoned meat, the bustling energy of a lively market…

This world had great food too, but… something always felt missing.

A Familiar Guest

By the time they finished prepping the ingredients—

Hiratsuka carried the grill outside.

And right on cue—

The doorbell rang.

Su Yu glanced toward Hiratsuka, who had gone back inside her room to grab something.

With a sigh, he walked over and opened the door.

"…Su Yu-kun?"

Standing outside—

Yukinoshita Haruno.

She looked genuinely surprised.

"Good evening."

Su Yu sighed again.

"Wow, you sound so disappointed," Haruno laughed. "Am I that unwelcome?"

"…Please come in."

Haruno stepped inside the courtyard, glancing around.

"You live here too?"

"This is my house," Su Yu answered.

Haruno blinked.

"Seriously?"

She studied the apartment complex, then turned back to him.

"Not bad, Su Yu-kun. Owning a whole complex near your high school? Your parents must have been pretty successful."

"I wouldn't know."

"…What?"

"I don't know what my parents did."

Haruno was momentarily speechless.

Before she could ask further—

"HARUNO! What gift did you bring me?"

Hiratsuka cut in, her voice carrying from inside.

Haruno smiled mischievously.

"Congrats on moving in, Shizuka! I brought you the most expensive bottle of wine from my bar!"

Hiratsuka glanced at the wooden box she was holding.

"You know I hate wine. Did you do this on purpose?"

Haruno's smile didn't waver.

"You might hate it, but your father will love it."

Hiratsuka groaned.

"You're trying to lure me home again, aren't you?"

She sighed.

"Every time I go back, my old man tries to set me up on blind dates.

That's why I moved here.

Last time, my landlord got bribed into leaking my address—so when I got home, some random guy was already waiting inside.

If it weren't for Tamura-san standing there, I probably would've put him in the hospital."

Haruno laughed.

"Come on, Shizuka. You're already at marriage age. Your dad's just looking out for you.

All the guys he picks are top-tier—why do you keep rejecting them?

…Or is it that you don't like men?

If that's the case, I could pretend to be your boyfriend for a while~."

Hiratsuka gave her a deadpan stare.

"…I'm ignoring you."

Haruno just grinned.

"Fine, fine. I'll stop.

I promised your dad I'd find you a decent boyfriend—so for now, he won't bother you with more blind dates."

Hiratsuka visibly relaxed.

"Thanks, Haruno. I knew you were a good student who cared about me."

Haruno chuckled.

"I only care because you're useful to me. If you were anyone else, I wouldn't bother."

Hiratsuka rolled her eyes.

"Sure, sure. You're not like your mother at all."

Haruno stiffened slightly at that.

But instead of responding, she glanced at Su Yu.

"Shizuka's father is high-ranking in the police force.

If you take care of her, it might benefit you in the future."

Su Yu shrugged.

"I don't plan on getting involved in anything troublesome."

Haruno simply smiled knowingly.

Then—

"Shizuka, is the beer ready? I'm staying over tonight—let's drink till morning!"

For once—

Haruno's smile was genuine.

The kind that only appears around true friends.

"Su Yu-kun!"

Hiratsuka turned to him.

"Bring the food and drinks outside!"

Su Yu sighed, heading into the house to grab everything.

The Barbecue

The courtyard already had a full set of outdoor furniture.

Haruno and Hiratsuka immediately claimed the table—

Leaving Su Yu to man the grill.

"Sorry for making you cook, Su Yu-kun~."

Haruno cheerfully cracked open a beer.

"…Just wait a bit."

Su Yu turned his attention to grilling the skewers.

Surprisingly—

He remembered everything.

From the movements of street vendors in his past world—

To the exact techniques they used.

…Wasn't memory enhancement a bit too overpowered?

As he grilled, the two women were already drinking heavily.

By the time Su Yu finally sat down to eat—

Haruno pointed at him.

"Su Yu-kun… no alcohol for kids!"

Her face was flushed, her tone playful.

Su Yu sighed again.

For just a moment—he wished he was back in his old world.
