Mr. & Mrs. Saison-Monsour: The Mafia & The Slayer Married Life

Chapter 23: Pt.3: 22: Happy BUT Painful Past

The night at the Sky Lux Hotel & Gallery Restaurant was filled with a party and a little dispute, but it didn't escalate into a disturbance. But as the gala proceeded, the Saison-Monsour couple headed to their first serious dinner. They reminisce about the incidents before they got married, living under one roof, or just everything. It was filled with teasing banter and laughter until one distant gaze brought up a topic that Skylar couldn't avoid.

"That's a grateful look your eyes had despite hiding them beneath a mask," Vincencio said calmly on Skylar's happy and grateful face as she glanced at him.

"Well, I am grateful I finally had this life with you," Skylar admitted as she removed her lace mask, completely revealing the feline eyes that never seemed to fail to make Vincencio love her more.

"But?" he trailed off as he waited for her to continue.

"But there's a certain part of me that I could not easily tell you, and yet, there's one thing you need to know for now." With a soft but sad tone, Skylar looked away before walking toward the railings where a great view of mountains sparkled through the moonlight glow. "I know we suppose to talk about it when we get back home but this place is right."

"It's about that man at the gala, right?" Vincencio followed her as he took a guess, making Skylar nod.

"Yes, and let me take you to a happy yet painful past I had with him." With a sad smile, she offered a hand to him, which he didn't hesitate to take.

As Vincencio stood beside her, holding hands, they traveled through time as Skylar began recalling all the events that left a mark in her memory. It all started in time when she finished college and parted ways with Vincencio.

"Remember our college graduation? You confessed to me, and I truly wanted to strangle you because you took so long to confess and your timing was terrible. I had him; that's why I rejected you." Skylar chuckled sadly as she squeezed Vincencio's hand like she was taking support from it.

"That makes sense." Vincencio chuckled.

"But honestly, thinking back then, I hope I say yes and break up with him, but fate had different ways of teaching us," Skylar whispered a what-if, making Vincencio caress her hand with concern.

"What happened?" he asked sincerely.

"I can't deny that it was a happy relationship with him; however, we broke up due to long distance relationship. He had to continue his studies abroad and losing connection with you is something I can't easily bear. I know I loved him, but you know, you're my pillar that kept me grounded." She admitted how dear Vincencio's presence was in her life before adding what forced her to strengthen herself. "You know, my guardians were busy people that's why I entered the military force. I focused my attention there."

"And him?" he wondered.

"We got back together after a year or two when he returned." She replied with a sigh. "I balance it out, or so I thought..."

"What happened then?" Curious, he asked carefully.

"It all started at Avalon de Chevalier Military Institute..." Skylar sighed heavily and looked distant as she began the story between her and Gregory Sterling. "…I was on top of everything among my batch, but not everything goes as we expected it would be..."

'Skylar, I heard you were selected as a platoon leader.'

'I hope to be included in your platoon.'

'Joey, Medina, thank you for the support, but until our commander announces it, don't get excited.'

In the past, Skylar was still young when she enrolled in Avalon de Chevalier Military Institute shortly after she graduated from university. The military institute had massive military training drills spread out throughout the wide field, which encouraged anyone who wanted to join the military. The institute teaches everything pupils need to know, not just one topic in which they excel. It was for their survival on the battlefield, but no one could exceed their expectations, forcing them to drop out as unqualified students until Skylar Saison came.

'Understood, but once we joined the battlefield, I heard we'll possess codes.'

'I wonder what it will be.'

'You two are always excited.'

'Well, with you, it is.'

'Whatever, let's go before the commander punishes us for being late.'

Skylar, a talented and caring leader, was assigned as the platoon leader for their section by their homeroom commander. Her companions were delighted because they knew it: Skylar was born a leader with exceptional talents, personality, and a strong work ethic. She was a great tactician and fighter, with loyalty and trust being her top priorities, making her a trusted figure in their team.

'Okay, settle down. I, Commander Enrique Kim, gave Skylar Saison, the platoon leader of section Elite S, the code of Alpha.'

'Affirmative.'

'You may choose your Beta.'

'Beta Medina Parkson.'

'Affirmative.'

'The rest will be announced tomorrow since I have to be careful where to position you so you'll excel more.'

'You're thoughtful, Alpha.'

'Wait, isn't Alpha common?'

'True. Let's call her Alpha Lar.'

'Agreed.'

'What do you say, platoon leader?"

'Alright, and since you assigned me to be your platoon leader, I only need your loyalty and trust as I will try my best to make sure to meet your ends.'

'We all know, Alpha Lar. That's why we agreed and let you be our leader.'

'You deserved it.'

Skylar valued their trust and persevered in the military. They faced challenges in daily life, including adjusting to waking time and alertness due to limited rest on the battlefield. They grew as a platoon, encouraging each other and surpassing their seniors' records in endurance, agility, and skills, demonstrating their dedication to their duties.

'Remember not to let your ego get too big because we're being acknowledged. Let's focus on the reason we're here in the first place, and it was not just about money but also about protecting our loved ones and our country. Are we clear?'

'Affirmative, Alpha Lar.'

'Good, let's have a dinner party. I know a restaurant.'

Their section celebrated at the neighborhood restaurant where her lover, Gregory Sterling, worked as a manager; he joined them after his shift. He was overjoyed and pleased with his girlfriend's accomplishment, and he rewarded her with his touch: a well-cooked steak and red wine. Skylar was glad to be able to celebrate with him, and their celebration continued as Skylar and her section improved, capturing the commander-in-chief's notice. They were all transferred to the Top Elite section, where they were given the title Triple-S and assigned to the Special Forces Top Star Elite Soldier.

'Babe, our section got into Special Force Top Star Elite Soldiers.'

'That's great news.'

'I know, but when we join the camp, I won't be here beside you much. Will you be okay then?'

''I will, and besides, I can cook.'

'Hey, don't slap me with your cooking skills.'

'I know, but it's good to tease you.'

'Be grateful that I love you.'

'And I love you too.'

However, their relationship began to be strained when Skylar and her section joined the field, causing rumors that stung her ears, but she chose to ignore them. She was focused since mistakes weren't allowed on the battlefield when life was on the line. She kept surviving and returned home with scars that would take her some time to heal, which Gregory wasn't pleased with, causing misunderstanding.

'Why do you keep having bruises and battle scars?"

'I'm a soldier; it's a part of my work.'

'Then you better quit it.'

'Did you hear yourself, Greg? You want me to quit the profession that kept everyone safe?'

'But you're not safe.'

'I know that, and I'll keep coming back alive, won't I?'

'Quit it. I don't want to lose my fiancé.'

'I'm not hearing this from you…I didn't stop you from quitting your previous job, and now you want me to quit mine because of these scars? Is that the reason you won't touch me anymore?'

'You know that's not the point here.'

'What's the point, Gregory? I'm alive, and I'm here with you. I kept coming back alive, unless…you want me dead?'

'That's bullshit.'

'Greg…what change?'

'You and your military life…'

'That's it. You finally said it, then so be it.'

'What are you talking about?'

'Nothing. I need some air.'

Skylar left their flat for a breather, ignoring the wound on her tummy. She went to her favorite nightclub and relaxed for a few minutes before returning home. Strangely, they had a late-night visitor, and before she could call her lover, her stomach dropped when a nightmare echoed through the walls. Skylar knew it, yet she walked carefully to their bedroom and slightly opened the door, covering her mouth from a scene she remembered vividly.

'Damn, you're so tight.'

'Like you didn't love it.'

'Fuck, I do.'

'Then go deeper. Explore me more.'

'Well, I'll make sure you won't be able to walk tomorrow.'

'Take care of me when that happens.'

'Don't worry, I will.'

Skylar had no idea what to feel aside from wanting to crumble into pieces and never live again, but remembering her team and her friends that she trusted, she knew better.

'He's a cheater…a traitor…he betrayed me…'

Their heated voices and their sweet exchanged words were like a curse in Skylar. It was swirling around as she watched the sex scene unfold before her eyes. Everything was a mess while her man was entangled with another woman like she didn't exist. When Skylar had enough of the pain, she grabbed her phone and quickly dialed a friend who warned her about him.

'Rumors were right, Liam. You were right after all…'

Skylar had enough and stopped crying about someone who didn't deserve her tears. She wrote a last letter to Gregory and left their engagement ring on the same night they argued and the same night his betrayal unfolded.

Our marriage is off. You're free now to marry her.

'Liam, can I meet Verosha tonight?'

'Sure, we're still here at the SR Night Pub.'

'I'll be there.'

Without looking back, Skylar didn't grab her things and just left with nothing, but it was also the night a monster was about to wake up inside her.

***

"So, after what he did to me, I left without a single trace, and when he visited me at the institute or camp, I was no longer there. I selected my men that would go with me on the battlefield while I commanded the rest to stay in the school to learn and teach there." With a sigh, Skylar smiled proudly as she realized the good change that happened to her when she cut ties with him.

"Wow, but how can you do that?" Vincencio wondered astonishingly.

"Well, I am careful with my section and put them delicately in their position; that's why some were left in the school to teach." She admitted, and there was a glint of slyness in her eyes, making Vincencio sense something.

"Why do I sense there was something beneath it?" he guessed, making Skylar chuckle as she nodded.

"Well, there is, and one reason why my two growing companies were fully secured." She winked at him.

"Ah, that makes sense." He chuckled, but Skylar's smile became thin.

"Maybe Gregory could not accept that I left without letting him speak his reason," Skylar concluded while looking over the moon.

"Do you want to hear them?" he curiously wondered, making her smile at him.

"In some way I do, but for peace on that part." Looking deeply at him, she wrapped her arms around his neck as she replied.

"I want to kill him, but for the sake of your peace, I will let you do it. But promise me not to get too involved with that man. I don't trust him with your safety at all." Vincencio pulled her closer as he respected her desire for peace but didn't forget to warn her. "I'll be a monster they'll fear if they hurt you."

"How protective of you, Hubby, and rest assured that I can set aside business matters for personal ones." Amused, Skylar chuckled and pecked his lips. "Also, I want to play with him."

"Play with him? What kind of play are you thinking of?" He spat, truly didn't like the sound of it, making Skylar chuckle.

"Possessive. I love it," she teased amusingly.

"Wifey," he warned, but Skylar pulled his collar closer to her.

"Don't worry, it's not 'that' kind of play you were thinking." She softly whispered and captured his lips for a passionate kiss.
