Mr. & Mrs. Saison-Monsour: The Mafia & The Slayer Married Life

Chapter 22: Pt.3: 21: The CEO’s Amusement

"What's going on there?" Skylar wondered uneasily as she stood up and went to the buffet area, where her friends followed.

The guests had not noticed any dispute around the buffet area, but several of them, including females, became aware of their heated discussion. Despite her concern, Skylar watched as Vincencio held his ground, speaking to the man before him. She did not care who because her gaze was fixed solely on her husband's furious expression. It was her first time seeing Vincencio become enraged beyond what she knew. She could see the sternness in his face, but at the same time, his gentle eyes sharpened, ready to cut anyone who saw them.

Skylar found that sight dangerous. She felt her entire body quiver with such adrenaline, while her blood boiled in the heat, causing her pulse rate to skyrocket. The last thing she felt was the mischievous grin on her lips. Her smile had previously signified death, but now, it means something different: amusement. She felt the thrill, captivated by Vincencio's intimidating appearance.

"Sky, are you okay?" Fredric's wife, Syria, asked worriedly since Skylar was frozen on her ground, grinning like a madwoman.

"Don't ask that, Syria. It was a smile of death that found its amusement." Verosha chuckled as she placed her hand over Syria's shoulder and shook her head.

"Oh, that thing." Syria quickly understood what she said since she had witnessed them before, on her husband, Fredric.

"Sky, aren't you going to interfere?" Verosha wondered carefully through her smile, agreeing to her friend's amusement.

"Not until I'm needed," Skylar replied ecstatically about what her husband would show her. "I want to see his beastly side while protecting what belongs to him."

"You're such a tease." Syria teasingly chuckled.

"Only around him." Skylar grinned as her eyes never left Vincencio's.

As the ladies eavesdrop on their men's conversation, Vincencio tries to be civil while presenting his wife's company. The tone of their discussion suddenly changed, and it didn't escape Skylar's sensitive ears.

"Arrange a meeting with the CEO of Sky Lux Hotel & Gallery Restaurant. I'd rather speak with the boss than speak to one of their employees."

The businessman spoke with no ill intention, yet his words were arrogant to Vincencio, catching Skylar's attention. She was not even surprised to meet the last person she wanted her husband to meet at this gathering, but fate planned differently.

"Gregory Sterling." With a sinister grin, Skylar mumbled the name she loathes—her ex-fiancé, who betrayed her countless times behind her back. "Let's see how my dear hubby deals with the arrogant behavior you turned into."

"I'm not their employee and never was. I'm just introducing the hotel on their behalf, so please, ask their secretary for further information."

"Well, you're introducing the hotel, which means you're connected to them. So, be a good employee and fix me a meeting with the CEO since I'm dying to meet her in person for business purposes and personal affairs."

Gregory Sterling might be a good-looking fellow who could attract anyone, but to Vincencio, the man doesn't sit right on his mouth. He didn't like Gregory's aura, posture, or the way he arrogantly insisted on meeting his wife. Skylar knew what her ex was referring to, but she kept watching how long Vincencio could keep his cool while dealing with Gregory's annoying behavior.

"Personal affairs? Like what?"

"It's personal. So, arrange a meeting…"

"Tell me, and I'll give the message personally."

"I'm sorry, bro, I won't since it's personal."

"Then don't talk to me anymore. Find the CEO's secretary."

"Oh, that pissed him off big time," Syria commented on how Vincencio bluntly declined to arrange a meeting for Skylar.

"Be ready to be grilled later, Sky." Verosha grinned teasingly, making Skylar shake her head while beaming too.

"Don't worry, he won't be harsh," Skylar responded like she knew how their conversation would end.

"Don't be rude. I want to meet her in person, and besides, why are you acting like a protective boyfriend when you're just working for her? Also, don't you think you're ruining her hotel's reputation by declining a potential business partner?"

"Business partner? Really?"

"Yes, I'm looking forward to working with her."

"Then I'm declining on her behalf."

"Stop being dramatic; you're just an employee, so you better stop acting like a protective boyfriend and arrange a meeting for us."

"Are you deaf or being a stupid businessman who can't understand what 'no' means? I am firmly declining to let her have a business or whatever personal affairs you wanted to talk with her about."

"Oh boy, your husband is going all out now," Verosha whispered while giggling.

"He's going to reveal who he is," Syria added teasingly.

"Let's see how he does that." Skylar grinned in amusement at their nonsense conversation.

"Who the fuck are you to decline it? You have no right to do so."

"No rights? Are you hearing yourself?"

"Yes. You don't have any right to decline me to meet your boss."

"Boss…you're right, she is my boss around business matters, but in our home, she's my queen, and I have all rights to decline anyone who doesn't sit right with me."

"Woah, what a claim," Syria amusingly commented.

"Since when did you become a queen?" Verosha teasingly asked as she nudged Skylar's side.

"Ssshhh. Just listen." Skylar hushed them and eagerly listened to their conversation.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO HAVE THAT RIGHT WHEN YOU'RE JUST A MERE EMPLOYEE IN THEIR HOTEL?!"

"I have every right to say something to MY WIFE's businesses like she wanted me to."

"Woah, so bold," Verosha teasingly commented, making Skylar proud.

"You're lucky to have a husband like Vincencio. Protective and supportive." Syria complimented Skylar's marriage while nudging her side, making her blush but proud.

"Wife? You're kidding, right?"

"No, so no meeting for you."

"Liar. You're just saying that so I won't have a meeting with her. It's just a bluff."

"A bluff, you say…"

Somehow, hearing Vincencio's grim tone, Skylar got alarmed and recalled the huge wolf she encountered before. She was unsure why it suddenly flashed into her mind, but like instinct, she quickly found herself walking to them.

"Yeah, it's just a bluff. So, if I were you, move quickly and arrange a meeting."

"Like I said, no. I don't trust you with my wife's being—well, in fact, I don't easily trust anyone getting close to my wife beyond business, which is technically what you're doing."

"WHY YOU?!"

"HUBBY!" Skylar shouted at her husband as she approached their spot, making the boys around Vincencio look at her faked outrage.

"Skylar…" Gregory whispered like he saw a ghost before him.

"Wifey, I'm sorry, but this man won't let me get your food. He kept bothering me about arranging a meeting when I don't trust him as your business partner, and he even wanted to speak with you about personal matters." Vincencio explained his delay as his temper subsided a little.

"Personal matters? What personal matters?" Skylar played dumb and wondered, although she knew the truth.

"It can't be…" Gregory mumbled before voicing his guess. "Skylar Saison?"

"The last time I checked, that's me before I became Saison-Monsour…" Skylar responded coldly as she pretended not to know him. "…and who might you be, sir?"

"It's me, Gregory Sterling, your fiancé. Didn't you recognize me?" Gregory introduced himself and quickly grabbed Skylar's hand, which made her flinched.

"Fiancé? I didn't have any fiancé before my husband proposed to me." Still pretending, Skylar shakes her head, denying her connection with him.

"Lies. We're about to get married, and you're gone…" Gregory kept insisting to the point he tightened his hold, making Skylar wince.

Vincencio could not hold it anymore, and the moment Skylar got hurt, he quickly slapped his hold over his wife and harshly pushed him away. Being weaker than Vincencio, Gregory stumbled backward and almost lost his balance, but with anger, he pushed Vincencio hard. It angered Vincencio, but he stood still in front of his wife, protectively.

"Wifey…" Vincencio's voice went cold and deeper, making Skylar shiver in a good way. "…who's this lunatic man calling MY WIFE his fiancé?"

"What's going on with him? He was growling protectively like he's a different person." Skylar thought while sensing danger from her husband. She held her ground and kept pretending. "Hubby, I don't know him. This is my first time meeting him."

"Wifey, speak the truth." He whispered, making Skylar clench her hands on his sleeves.

"I'm pretending. I'll fill you details later. Save me." She whispered, and Vincencio got the message.

"You're lying. It's me, Gregory Sterling. I'm your—" Gregory insisted and was about to reach Skylar when she hid behind Vincencio, who was not radiating in anger.

"THAT'S ENOUGH! IT MAY BE TRUE, BUT THE FACT IS SHE LEFT YOU FOR A REASON YOU CAN'T SWALLOW. IT WAS YOUR LOSS. I'M HER HUSBAND NOW, WHICH MEANS YOU'RE NOTHING TO HER ANYMORE. SO, DON'T FORCE YOURSELF ON MY WIFE WHEN SHE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE YOU." Vincencio spat venom at Gregory's thick head while controlling his anger before adding, "And don't call my wife a liar when you're the one who's lying."

"What are you talking about?" Gregory's voice wavered at Vincencio's firm message.

"Don't say she's your fiancé when you're married. Well, maybe you and your wife were the same." Vincencio spat sinisterly, making Gregory look puzzled. "Don't ask. Look for your partner tonight instead of disturbing the gala and my wife's matters."

"Skylar…" Gregory mumbled her name defeatedly, but Skylar shook her head dismissively.

"I don't know you, Sir, so please leave me be before I call security for attending the gala uninvited," Skylar said coldly, stopping Gregory from speaking more, and with one more look at her, he left without saying anything.

Tension has faded. Skylar breathed a sigh of relief as she turned to face her husband, who appeared enraged and jealous. She was grateful for falling in love with Vincencio all over again.

"Hubby, I don't know…" Skylar tried to reason but Vincencio quickly pulled her into his arms and inhaled her scent again, surprising her. "Why did he keep sniffing me whenever he held me like this? Well, I'm not complaining. I love it whenever he holds me tight like I belong only to him."

"Ssshhh. Let's stay like this for a while. It calms me down." Vincencio mumbled as he hid himself over the crook of his wife's neck. Magically mysterious, Skylar was helping him calm down.

"If you're worried about me leaving you for him, it's a big no. Do you understand?" With her softest voice, Skylar gave Vincencio assurance while she let him embrace her tight.

"I know, and I won't let you go. You're mine till we die." Like a promise, Vincencio kissed Skylar's temple dearly before pulling away and wondering. "I know you said you're pretending, but are you sure there's nothing else?"

"Why, you ask?" Skylar studied playfully her husband's expression.

"Based on how you acted earlier, that's not the Skylar I knew. My wife isn't afraid of anything, but to him, it seems you're hiding something." Vincencio stared back at her and responded directly to her question.

"Observant, and yes, I'm hiding something, but don't worry, I'll tell you once we get back home." With a smirk, she replied and sweetly pecked his lips.

"So, do you still want to eat here, or shall we head out for a date?" Vincencio smirked and sweetly wondered.

"Honey, why can't you be sweet like Vince?" Before Skylar could respond, Syria suddenly asked her husband teasingly.

"Yeah, look, he's inviting his wife out despite the event happening around here." Verosha did the same thing, making Liam chuckle.

"Sweetheart, we're the hosts, and we can't just leave them here." Liam grabbed Verosha's hand as he reasoned with her.

"And dear, I could be sweet, but not before them." Fredric pulled Syria and hugged her waist as he sweetly answered her.

"Seriously, Vince asked me, not you guys." Skylar rolled her eyes at the teasing sweet gestures her friends did, making them laugh. Then she turned to Vincencio and answered. "Let's go upstairs; the restaurant is still open."

"Sure, but at the same booth?" Vincencio wiggled his brows teasingly, making Skylar slightly blush and receive more teases from their friends.

"Yeah, same table where it all started." Skylar smiled lovingly before she led the way after excusing themselves from their friends.
