Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife

Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Do You Still Seek Fu Xingzhou?

The junior assistant didn't try to understand the deeper meaning in his words, "Is it because the client didn't catch Mr. Lin's fancy?"

If Mr. Lin had wanted to take the case, he would have asked him to begin preparing by now, but he hadn't said anything.

Lin Yihang stared out the window, silent.

He saw Ye Yan hurriedly leave the café, seemingly on the phone with someone, and quickly got into her own car and drove away.

Lin Yihang lowered his head, his hand fiddling with the watch on his wrist.

Below the large watch face, it covered the scar on his wrist, healed crookedly, showing just how determined he had been when making that cut.

Back when he was a young boy experiencing his first stirrings of love, he gave all his passion and joy to that one person.

He had always thought she liked him too; the way she looked at him was different from how she looked at others.

He had asked her to meet him at the gym and had read and reread his love letter soaked with sweat.

She was so outstanding, she certainly wouldn't allow misspelled words or grammatical errors, and to stand out, he even used bilingual English and Chinese.

She surely liked outstanding people too.

The young boy's passion, full of anticipation and love, peaked the moment he saw the girl appear.

He just knew, she must have had feelings for him too.

But what happened next exceeded the young boy's imagination. He didn't know where they came from, but a group of people appeared, accusing him of indecency with the girl.

He felt his mind go blank, and what happened after was a rapid, uncontrollable downward spiral.

Ye Jian'an, Ye Yan's father, accused him of molesting his daughter, making it known throughout the school.

At that time, he so wished the girl would stand up for him and speak a word of justice, but he never saw her appear.

She vanished, with not even a silhouette in sight.

With things having gone so far, his family had no choice but to agree to a settlement, which, once reached, confirmed the "indecent" accusations against him.

He was forced to transfer schools and move from Ao City Peninsula to Luhuan Island.

On the day he left, it was raining, and he saw the girl in the rain, drenched and disheveled, as if she wanted to say something, but he didn't want to hear a word.

His mother awakened him with a sentence and a slap: You thought she liked you, but that was just a trap her family set for you, all for our money.

He went to Luhuan Island, thinking that the distance between the islands would allow him to settle down and heal, but unexpectedly, the rumor that he had molested a girl suddenly spread to his new school.

He confronted a girl who was spreading the rumor, and she said her best friend's friend had come from Ao City Peninsula, and someone named Ye Yan was spreading the word that he was a "pervert."

That day, his hatred for Ye Yan peaked, but he had no way to retaliate against her, only against himself.

He attempted suicide by cutting his wrists.

But, fortunate in misfortune, he was saved.

That scar stood out so starkly, still painful after ten years, and every time he saw it, he was reminded of his humiliating youth, those youthful affections given in error.

Lin Yihang rotated his wristwatch, his eyes deep and brooding, "Check on a case from yesterday, the one involving three high school students fighting with two young men from society."

The assistant hadn't expected their senior attorney to take interest in such a minor case.

However, he knew the case, as it had been widely circulated on the internet.

"These three kids are minors, right? If they really get convicted, their future is ruined," the assistant said regretfully as he sent the information to Lin Yihang.

Due to professional reasons, Lin Yihang's law firm had access to some internal information.

Staring at the photos in the documents, Lin Yihang slowly flipped through the pages.

Ye Yan's younger brother, Ye Zhun, was the involved party in this case, and the complainant had been classified with a Level 9 disability. If the charges were confirmed, he would face imprisonment; at the very least, juvenile detention.

What a remarkable youth he was, reminiscent of his own past self — everyone thought he would have a bright future, oblivious of the darkness he had once endured.

Perhaps, it was time to drag him into the darkness as well; it was what his family deserved.

"Contact the victims and ask if they need a lawyer."

The assistant nearly dropped his jaw at that statement. "Mr. Lin... did you misspeak?"

No matter how one looked at the case, those three students did not seem to be the evil party. The internet was abuzz with controversy, but as a lawyer, he possessed the ability to discern right from wrong.

"You heard me correctly. I want to be the plaintiff's attorney."

Lin Yihang cast his gaze out of the car window, his lips curving into a faint smile.

Ye Yan, your family's retribution has arrived.

~

Ye Yan shivered, feeling a sudden chill in the air.

She closed the car window and turned on the radio, from which an old song that she loved in her school days floated out.

That day she and Lin Yihang were cleaning the classroom, and he handed her an earphone with infectious enthusiasm, inviting her to listen to the song.

The boy's smile was clear, his school uniform carrying the fresh scent of laundry detergent.

They listened to that song over and over again until dusk fell.

Lin Yihang was a boy she had once fancied in her youth, her heart fluttering only for a moment.

But what happened afterward was completely unexpected.

Ye Jian'an caused a scene at school, demanding compensation from the Lin Family and spreading the word of his daughter being "molested" everywhere.

She knew Lin Yihang was innocent. She wanted to speak out for him, but Ye Jian'an, fearing she would ruin their plans, locked her at home with a heavy padlock.

By the time Ye Zhun let her out, she rushed to explain things to Lin Yihang, but all he gave her was a look that haunted her for life.

Ten years had passed, and she never forgot that look. It startled her from sleep, drenching her in cold sweat.

A sudden ringing of the phone interrupted Ye Yan's thoughts.

"Ah Yan," came Meng Tian's anxious voice, "did your talk with Lawyer Lin fall through?"

Ye Yan forced a smile. It wasn't that their talk had fallen through; he simply hadn't given her a chance to speak.

"I'm sorry, Tiantian."

"Do you know Lawyer Lin?" Meng Tian's professional instincts smelled a hint of a story.

"Do you remember the boy I told you about, the one from my first year of high school because of whom I transferred schools?"

Meng Tian's eyes widened, and it took her a moment to speak, "The world is really that small."

"Mrs. Qin has introduced me to a lawyer, quite renowned in the field; I'm on my way to meet him now."

Meng Tian fell silent for a moment, "Ah Yan, we're really in trouble this time. The parents of the girl involved say she has suffered psychological trauma and won't let anyone see her. And I just got news that Lin Yihang has agreed to be the plaintiff's lawyer."

The car jerked to a sudden stop at the side of the road, Ye Yan's complexion turned pale, the hand holding the phone nearly trembling, "How could this happen?"

Lin Yihang had not only rejected her but had also joined the opponent's camp.

Ten years had not eroded his hatred, indicating how deeply that incident had hurt him.

Ye Yan didn't blame Lin Yihang. She didn't know what he had gone through after that incident.

She empathized with how difficult it was to survive in those bleak days.

"Ah Yan, go and see that lawyer first. As for Mr. Lin, I'll try to contact him again," Meng Tian hesitated before cautiously suggesting, "Ah Yan, if all else fails, you can still ask Fu Xingzhou for help."
