Mountain, I Bought It – Living in Another World Isn’t Bad Either

Chapter 29

Chapter 29. Checking Out the Loot

After stopping by the city office, I swung by the home improvement store and ended up spending almost the entire day there. Grabbed some snacks while shopping, too. Stuffing my face with a big yakitori skewer, I caught myself thinking, Man, I could go for a beer. But since I drove, that wasn’t an option.

By the time I got back to the campsite, the sun had already set, so I hurriedly turned on the LED lantern.

There were so many interesting tools, whether I could use them or not. I wanted this and that, but it’s not like I’m rolling in cash.

“But hey, initial investments are important.”

…And with that excuse, I ended up buying a bunch of stuff.

I spread out a green plastic sheet in front of the tent and started lining up my loot.

First, two poly tanks with faucets. I also bought a whole box of 2-liter PET bottles, but once I finish these, I plan to refill them at the campground’s water station.

Next, a toolset. Up until now, all I had was a cheap little screwdriver set from the dollar store. Not like there was much use for tools here anyway.

Then, a compact electric saw. Figured I’d need it if I ever got into DIY stuff. I did consider getting a big saw for cutting wood, but realistically, I’d probably just end up relying on Hirogeru-kun instead.

…No idea when I’ll actually use it, though.

And, of course, the electric weed trimmer I’d originally planned to buy—along with a portable power station to charge it. I could charge it from the car, but…

“I kinda went ahead and bought… solar panels.”

Not the kind you put on a house’s roof, though.

I got the foldable, portable type—the kind campers often use. Figured I could store them away on bad weather days, which might help slow down wear and tear.

“Well, not like I can power a giant fridge or anything.”

I don’t even have space for something like that yet. Speaking of, they did have portable fridges, but they only hold enough for camping, so I passed for now.

“Oh, and these.”

A box containing what looked like 500ml PET bottles—garden solar lights. Twelve of them, the long, stake-like kind.

At night, the only light around here is from the tent, so going to the toilet in the dark is kinda scary. If I take the LED lantern with me, I can’t see where I’m going back to. Moonlight helps, but cloudy or moonless nights are the worst.

“Gonna stick these in the ground tomorrow~”

There was still so much more I wanted, but checking my bank balance kept me in check. For now, I put everything on my card. I’ve bought some pricey stuff before—the car, the mountain gear—but seeing this pile of loot in front of me really drove home how much I’d spent. My chest ached a little.

At the very least, I want to avoid dipping into the money my grandparents left me unless absolutely necessary.

After packing up everything on the plastic sheet, I happily headed off to take a bath.
