Chapter 30
Chapter 30. Stabbing in the Garden Lights
The next morning, the clear sky puts me in a mood that feels like something good is about to happen.
Breakfast is the usual ham and egg sandwich with coffee lately. I’m a bit worried about my lack of veggies, but raw greens are tough to handle. Plus, it’s still hot during the day, so I can’t exactly meal-prep something like curry.
Today, I’ll make do with instant food and go shopping tomorrow.
“After all, I’ve got something I wanna do today.”
That’s right. I’m gonna stab in those garden solar lights!
“Wait, no, no—weed cutting, weed cutting.”
I do wanna set up the garden solar lights, but first, I gotta charge the portable power station. The weed trimmer needs charging too, so it’s gonna take a while.
“Honestly, I’d love to charge them at the management shed… but yeah, no way.”
I thought about offering to pay for the electricity, but then again, this is supposed to be mountain living.
By the time I finish breakfast and my morning routine, the sunlight is already flooding the open area.
“Alright, first things first—”
I pull out the foldable solar panels I packed in the car. How long will it take to charge? The manual says it’ll be a while.
“Well, then I’ll work on the lights in the meantime.”
There are only 12 in the box.
This land is pretty spacious. Even if I stick them all in, the light will probably still be dim.
“For now, two at the entrance—”
Two at the spot where the car comes in. Ideally, there’d be something like a streetlight, but this’ll do for now. Driving through pitch darkness is exhausting.
Eventually, I might want to put up a gate or something.
…Not like anyone’s gonna visit, though.
“Then two near the toilet… and maybe the border with the grove?”
With only eight left, I space them out along the front edge, about 3 meters apart. No way I can cover the farthest areas, but this should be fine.
“Hmm… I’d love to have a fence too… Tateru-kun could probably handle it, but I’d need materials… Guess I’ll have to rely on the electric saw.”
But none of that matters if I can’t charge it, and that’s still gonna take a while.
“Guess I’ll go cut the weeds at the other path’s entrance, then.”
I dig out the weed sickle and work gloves I bought right before moving, stashed in the car trunk. And for my waist—mosquito repellent coils. Where there’s grass, there’s definitely mosquitoes!
“Huh? The sun’s kinda strong… Where’s my straw hat…?”
With my hat on and sickle in hand, I double-check the location on my tablet.
“Alright, off to battle—”
And so, I head toward what barely qualifies as a path, overgrown with wild grass.
