Modern World Warlock

Chapter 404: Camille and the Archangel

After Camille guided the archangel, Gabriel, to her office, she sat behind her desk and rested her elbows on the counter, scrutinizing the angel.

Varamor and Isidor stood next to Camille for protection, and as Gabriel gazed to the side of the office, his jaw dropped when he spotted Cerberus in his puppy form, lazily napping beside the handler's desk.

Using Isidor as her translator, Camille asked the angel a few probing questions, starting with the reason he had arrived on Earth.

Gabriel wasted no time in explaining his side of the story. In his mind, he was talking to a goddess who was on the same level as Aelara, so he divulged his plans without censorship.

The archangel explained that Aelara had asked to capture the warlock's party after Dante's disappearance.

The goddess wanted to figure out what had happened to Dante since she could feel that the "blessing" she had given him had been dispelled, and that wasn't something that should've been possible, not even after Dante's death.

When the angel discovered that the party was researching the convergence, Aelara changed her orders and told Gabriel to bring the party dead or alive, and unfortunately for him, he was caught up in the spell that opened the portal along with the rest of the party.

Camille understood everything, confirming that Gabriel was their enemy and not some random, confused individual.

Still, there were a few more questions lingering on her mind.

"Isidor, can you ask why he seems so devoted to me?" Camille said to the holy cyborg beside her.

The question seemed to catch Gabriel off guard, making him think that Camille was testing him with that question, prompting him to kneel and lower his gaze before answering.

Gabriel said that he could feel the same kind of aura that the gods from Terra possessed coming from Camille, so he instantly knew that they must have been related.

As an archangel, it was his job to serve any of the gods, and he declared his reverence to Camille once again with fervor and confidence.

At that moment, Isidor started to piece together Gabriel's words with Camille's actions.

The holy cyborg had heard Dante talking about it a few days before his departure to the Siberian Forest, when the warlock asked Camille if she had been doing something to make all of the demons listen to her.

Isidor already thought it was strange that someone like Lilith would listen to Camille, so he believed that Dante was the one keeping her in check.

However, Camille had not only tamed the Succubus Queen, but she also tamed a couple of harpions, the Dragon King of Hell, Cerberus, and she even made Netherius fall in love with her.

It was clear that there was something about Camille that made her different from any other human on Earth, but Isidor never managed to get a hint as to why until Gabriel said his piece.

"Miss Camille. Could you somehow be related to the gods from our world?" Isidor asked the handler, leaving Gabriel out of the conversation since he couldn't understand them.

"Ermm, I don't think so… I'm not sure how far back my family tree goes, but I don't think any of my ancestors came from Terra," Camille replied, deep in her own thoughts.

Putting the matter aside, Camille decided they would keep talking about it later, as she first wanted to know if Gabriel would have a problem with the Jade Dragons.

After Isidor translated, Gabriel replied by stating that he would listen to Camille's orders, and while he didn't know why a "goddess" was surrounding herself with demons, he considered himself too ignorant to understand the thought process of a goddess.

The main rule he was given was not to fight or bicker with anyone inside the Jade Palace, even if they were demons.

When Camille gave her order, her cold gaze fell upon Gabriel, and the angel shuddered with a slight sense of fear and anticipation. Still, he gracefully accepted his conditions, promising to serve Camille for as long as he was on Earth.

Meanwhile, the warlock's party was given a tour of the Jade Palace, where they got to meet most of the residents.

Sophia and Victoria were hanging out in the kitchen, and when the party walked by, the blonde offered them freshly-baked cookies that the group couldn't refuse after smelling the sweet aroma in the air.

"I'm glad Dante's friends made it here. I'm sure he is going to be pretty happy about it!" Sophia commented, prompting Saris to translate for her.

The party members couldn't help but smile a little at Sophia's words, and Faelyn was curious to know how Saris had gotten there, along with the other demons.

"It's a long story…" Saris replied, though she still talked about it, giving the party a summary of all the enemies Dante had fought during his time on Earth.

As they continued talking and touring the estate, the group arrived at the training rooms and laboratories, which were quite crowded during the day, as many Jade Dragons members sought to enhance their combat abilities after the war with Netherius.

On one side, they saw people practicing their techniques while others were lifting weights or punching bags. Nonetheless, the group could sense magic being cast on the further rooms, so they kept curiously walking ahead.

When they reached one of the last training rooms, they peeked through the bulletproof window and saw Zac and Alice sparring against each other.

"A Dark Paladin!?" Faelyn wondered aloud, surprised to see the ex-detective waving a black blade around.

"A Berserker, too. They are leaking Dante's umbra…" Sylas replied, carefully inspecting the two individuals training.

'Dante… What the hell have you been doing all this time?' Faelyn pondered.

Fortunately, they had found the place where Dante had been living, so it was only a matter of time before he returned and could explain everything to their faces.

"I'm getting pumped up! Maybe we should train ourselves a little bit as well!" Soren loudly said, though no one in the party shared the feeling.
