Modern World Warlock

Chapter 405: Tour of the Jade Palace

As the warlock's party spectated the training sessions from the hallway, they heard the voice of a woman scolding them for loitering, though only their guide, Saris, was able to understand her.

June, the ex-detective, was walking through the hallway between training rooms after finishing her daily exercises, when she found the group idling in the middle of it.

She was wearing a sports bra with leggings, wiping the sweat from her forehead with a towel before telling the group to move along, but when she got closer, she realized they were new faces she hadn't seen.

Saris explained to the woman who they were, and she was simply giving them a tour of the premises as Camille had ordered. Then, she introduced her to the whole group.

At first, June didn't pay much attention to the features of the party members, but when she gazed at Soren, who was two times her height, she could hear her heart thumping loudly.

It wasn't only her, as when Soren extended his hand to the woman's and clasped her seemingly small hands next to his, the massive warrior also felt a strange tickle in his stomach.

'Huh, no way…' Faelyn thought.

'This meathead has never shown a single speck of interest for the opposite sex… Or any sex, for that matter,' she continued.

Sylas seemed uninterested in the situation and kept watching Zac and Alice training, and after Soren had been holding June's hand for over ten seconds, the elf cleared her throat to shake off some of the awkwardness.

"A-Anyways, I'll see you guys later!" June said with a nervous tone that was wholly out of character for her.

As June quickly walked away, Soren couldn't take his gaze away from the woman with an expression that showed a hint of confusion and admiration.

"Gah, what is this weird sense of void in my chest?" Soren pondered aloud while clenching his left pectoral.

"Oh, buddy…" Faelyn replied, giving him a friendly pat on the shoulder.

"Well, at any rate, I have now decided that I want to learn this world's language!" Soren continued, proudly straightening his back.

Faelyn, who hadn't shown a moment of joy ever since Dante's disappearance, found herself laughing with tears in her eyes, holding her stomach from the slight pain of laughing so loudly.

"Are you okay, Fae?" Sylas asked.

"Ahaha, hah… Yes, yes. I'm fine," she replied, wiping the last tear of joy from her cheek.

It had been a long time since she shared a chuckle so heartily, but everything seemed so unknown and new to the elf that she couldn't help but feel genuine joy.

After watching the training session for a few more minutes, the group felt a strong fluctuation of mana coming from one of the last rooms in the hallway.

"Oh, Miss Paige must be experimenting again…" Saris commented, guiding the curious party towards the commotion.

When they got to the room, they saw Paige smoking a cigarette, sitting on a bench behind Wolfram, who was shooting magic blasts at a wall for seemingly no reason.

The pair had been studying the composition of magic for a few days, and after Paige took a few notes on her tablet, she turned her gaze and spotted the party watching from the hallway.

As the scientist squinted and focused her vision on the group, she was able to see the flow of mana around them, and even with her little experience, she could tell that the trio standing with Saris were also mages.

"Hey, you guys. What kind of magic do you use!?" Paige asked without introducing herself.

Saris interjected to explain that the party couldn't understand her, and Faelyn's translation spell wasn't too reliable, as it only allowed her to speak a few words, but she was still unable to comprehend the language.

"I see. That's a bit of a problem… It's not like they can use any translators since their language doesn't actually exist in this world," Paige muttered, placing a hand on her chin as she thought of an alternative.

The scientist was curious to study the newcomers' magic, but there was no point in doing so if she wasn't able to freely speak with them.

"Hey, Wolfram… You speak their language, right?" Paige asked her new partner, who was looking at a couple of graphs on a computer.

"Of course I do… Wait-" Wolfram replied, and when she realized what Paige was going to ask, she fell silent.

"I need you to write a dictionary," Paige casually said, leaving Wolfram with a perplexed expression.

The wizard sighed and closed her eyes for a few seconds. It could take years to write an entire dictionary with all of the words from the Terran language, so Wolfram wasn't the least bit stoked about the task.

However, she knew of a spell that could accelerate her train of thought and work speed, which could exponentially reduce the amount of time it took to write the book.

In the meantime, Paige would feed all that information into a database, which she would later add to a translating machine for the party members to wear.

It was a project that would take them at least a week to come up with a prototype, and as the wizard and the scientist began working on their new project, the warlock's party was left confused in the hallway.

After Saris gave them a tour of the entire Jade Palace, they were given fresh clothes, a room, and a bath.

"Hah, everything is working out!" Soren exclaimed to his friends while flexing his muscles.

"Whatever happened to Gabriel?" Sylas pondered aloud.

The last time they saw Gabriel, he was being called to Camille's office, and they wondered if the angel was causing trouble for the "boss lady."

Feeling a bit nervous about the angel's rash attitude, they decided to quickly pay Camille a visit in her office, and they were utterly shocked to find Gabriel standing next to the handler, like a bodyguard.

Camille was sitting behind her desk, filling up paperwork, while having the Dragon King of Hell to her right, an archangel to her left, and Cerberus, the Guardian of the Abyssal Gates, peacefully napping behind her.

'Who the hell is this woman…?' Faelyn thought, feeling glad that she was being friendly with them.
