Chapter 402: Terran Translator
After Gabriel dropped to his knees in front of Camille while everyone else watched in silence and confusion, the handler scratched the back of her head and pondered if the angel truly was from Terra.
She couldn't understand what Gabriel was saying, but the way he spoke with reverence made her shudder with discomfort.
"Could this be… A proposal!?" Lina, the teenager, asked, her face shyly covered.
"No, no. He is looking down… It's like kneeling before a queen or something!" Tommy replied.
"Are you sure!? I mean, big-sis Cami is super pretty. Even that evil necromancer was in love with her…" Lina continued, staring at the kneeling angel with anticipation.
Camille didn't say a word and kept her arms crossed as she scanned the rest of the group, and she quickly noticed Faelyn's pointy ears, prompting her to take out her phone and check her notes.
The notes on her phone were a few months old, consisting of small paragraphs that described some of the stories Dante had told her.
In one of those short stories, Dante talked about his old party, and when he mentioned that the Wizard on his team was an elf, the members of the Jade Dragons who were listening asked for a visual description of the woman, as they were curious to know what a real elf looked like.
He described her as a bronze-skinned woman with silver hair, blue eyes, and pointy ears. She wasn't much different from a human, but Camille still managed to write it all down in her notes.
Now that she was looking at Faelyn, who perfectly matched all of the descriptions given by the warlock, Camille pointed at the elf and spoke her name aloud.
"Faelyn?" She asked, and while they didn't speak the same language, names didn't need to be translated.
"Did she just…?" Sylas pondered, but he couldn't finish the sentence when Faelyn nodded her head affirmatively.
Seeing that the elf confirmed her identity, Camille's eyes widened slightly, as she never expected that she would get to meet Dante's old party, whom she had heard a lot about.
Reading her notes once again, she searched for the names of the others and spoke them aloud. "Soren, Sylas…" she said, making the two men perk up.
"She knows us?" Sylas asked.
"Maybe Gabriel was right. She could be a goddess!" Soren replied, but Faelyn stayed quiet and maintained her gaze locked with Camille's.
Camille let out a slight smile when Soren and Sylas reacted to their names, as it was confirmation that the group before her was Dante's old party. However, when she kept looking at her notes, she couldn't find anything that described the kneeling angel.
"Hmmm, was there another member in his party? I don't think so…" Camille spoke her thoughts aloud as she scrolled through the notes on her phone.
Gabriel stayed in his kneeling position, and he felt a tinge of indignity as the supposed "goddess" didn't mention his name.
He couldn't understand why the other three, who were now considered heretics, were acknowledged by Camille while the angel who was meant to serve her was ignored. Nonetheless, he stayed silent with one knee on the ground.
At that moment, before the situation could get more awkward, another woman entered the abandoned building, though she was much shorter than Camille when standing next to her.
She had cybernetic enhancements in her body, although they were invisible when she wore casual clothes, and her violet-colored hair looked slightly disheveled.
"Oh, Wolfram. I was just about to call you," Camille said.
"Are these the people you mentioned? Actually, don't answer that, I can tell…" Wolfram replied, taking a few steps forward and looking at Gabriel with a serious glare.
"Hmmm, I'm guessing you are Dante's friends," Wolfram muttered in the language of the Terrans.
"Yes! Do you know where he is, little girl?" Soren asked, not knowing who he was talking to.
"Who are you?" Faelyn interrupted, believing her question was more important at the moment.
"I'm Wolfram Blueridge," the petite android said with an imposing tone that didn't really fit her look. Still, the group was stumped by the answer.
Neither Dante nor anyone from his party had ever met the real Wolfram in person. However, they were under the impression that Wolfram was an old man, based on the texts he left behind in Terra.
Any other time, they would have doubted the girl's words, but since Wolfram had unleashed some of her mana to demonstrate her power, the group easily believed her claim, as it was the aura of an experienced mage.
"Another heretic!" Gabriel exclaimed, drawing his sword and placing his back against Camille, as if he were protecting her from Wolfram.
Maya took out her pistol, Wolfram aimed her palm at the angel, and the warlock's party prepared themselves to attack.
"What the hell is that guy doing!?" Jake pondered aloud.
"I don't know. He was the weirdest out of everyone in the group…" Tommy replied.
"Right? He doesn't really fit in with the others…" Lina commented as the three teenagers watched the standoff from the side of the room.
To calm the tension, Camille tapped the angel's shoulder, making him nervously turn around to see the handler making a sign to put out his weapon.
"B-But… The heretics!" Gabriel refuted, and while Camille couldn't understand what he was saying, she knew that he was giving some kind of excuse.
"Shhhh," Camille shushed the angel, gently grabbing his arm and sliding it down to lower his guard, showing that there was no need to fight.
Gabriel blushed slightly at the mere thought of Camille being so close to him, and he fully cooperated by putting away his weapon; then he kneeled before her once again.
"Wolfram, who the hell is this guy, and what is his deal with me?" Camille asked the wizard, pointing at the angel.
Wolfram repeated the question in the Terran language, prompting him to answer with fervor. "My name is Gabriel, the Archangel. At your service…" he said, his words directed to Camille.
"You guys brought an angel with you?" Wolfram asked the warlock's party with a raised eyebrow.
"It wasn't like that, he just tagged along- It's a long story…" Faelyn replied.
When Wolfram translated to Camille and mentioned that Gabriel was an angel, Camille remembered that Dante clearly talked about them being their enemies, which explained his combative attitude.
"What'd you wanna do?" Wolfram asked the handler.
"Well, this guy seems like he'd listen to me. Let's take them home…" Camille replied, and even when Wolfram had her doubts about bringing the angel with them, she couldn't decline her orders.
