Modern World Warlock

Chapter 401: Language Barrier (Part 2)

While the warlock's party and the teenagers stayed in the alley for a few more minutes, Lina tried to communicate with Faelyn using hand signs.

Jake wanted to ask why the group was looking for Dante, but he was afraid of how they would take it, so he decided to wait for the Jade Dragons to arrive, in case they needed protection.

Tommy had a feeling that the group of foreigners wasn't hostile. Still, he didn't mention it as he didn't want to be wrong.

"This is a waste of time. Leave these children behind!" Gabriel shouted.

The teenagers couldn't understand what he was saying, but the angel was clearly annoyed by their presence. Fortunately, the other three didn't share his opinion and simply glared at him in silence, as if telling him to shut up.

Not even ten minutes after Jake sent their location, a woman with pink hair arrived at the alley, wearing a black suit and sunglasses.

"Miss Maya!" Lina exclaimed, recognizing the woman from the Jade Dragons.

The warlock's party and the angel turned around to look at the new arrival, and they were a bit confused when they spotted Maya.

She stood with confidence and poise, sliding her sunglasses above her eyes to see the faces of the mages, slightly widening them when she saw Faelyn's pointy ears.

"So, what do we have here?" Maya pondered aloud, taking a few steps forward into the alley.

Jake slowly explained that they believed the group was a group of tourists looking for directions, but when Faelyn started casting magic, they quickly moved away from prying eyes.

The boy didn't exactly know what to do since he couldn't communicate with them, so the only thing that came to his mind was contacting the Jade Dragons.

When Camille sent the alert to all of her agents who were currently wandering the city, Maya turned out to be the closest one to the alley.

"Hmmm, I understand…" Maya replied, turning around and standing a few feet apart from Faelyn.

Without uttering a word, Maya extended her hand to show the group that she meant no harm, prompting the elf to shake the agent's hand before casting her incomplete translating spell.

"We… Look for… Dante…" Faelyn said while holding one of her hands against her neck.

Maya's eyes widened slightly with surprise, and before she could ask them the reason, she glanced at each of the members in the group.

Soren and Sylas looked quite intimidating, considering Soren was incredibly tall and muscular, and Sylas was hiding his face under a mask, which seemed suspicious.

Still, the vibe she sensed from Gabriel felt different. His appearance seemed more trustworthy than that of the others, but there was something about him that bothered the agent.

Using hand signs, Maya beckoned the group to follow her, with the teenagers tagging along out of curiosity until they reached the main street, where a large SUV was waiting to pick them up.

The teenagers thought that they would be driven to the Jade Palace residence. However, there was no chance that Maya would take a group of unknown Terrans back to their home without confirming their identities and the purpose of their visit.

As the chauffeur drove the group to an abandoned depot on the outskirts of Novis, Maya explained the situation in detail to Camille, who was on the phone with the agent.

"I understand. I'll be on my way," Camille replied, pondering who she could bring as a translator for a language that didn't exist in her world.

A little over forty minutes later, when the group arrived at the location, Maya guided them to the inside of the abandoned depot building and stood in the center, using hand signs to make the group follow along.

"Did you notice the carriage wasn't moving on its own? It had a person manning it– like a boat…" Faelyn commented, still amazed by the comfort and speed of the vehicle.

Since they couldn't sense any ill intentions coming from Maya, the fact that they were led to an abandoned location on the outskirts didn't seem suspicious to the group, so they kept discussing all the different wonders they had seen in their short time on Earth.

Meanwhile, Maya and the teenagers were patiently waiting for Camille to arrive, and the agent wondered why they even tagged along, as it could turn dangerous at any moment.

Suddenly, Gabriel interrupted Faelyn's curious talk with a loud shout of frustration.

"What the hell are we doing!? Why did we allow this woman to take us here!?" Gabriel yelled.

Maya got a little nervous since she couldn't understand the angel, but it was quite clear from his expression that the man was angry, so she preemptively placed her hand on her gun's handle.

"Shut it, asshole! You are making her doubt us." Faelyn scolded the angel, gritting her teeth and gazing at him with distaste.

It didn't take long for Camille's vehicle to arrive at the place, and before the tension in the room could rise even more, the handler loudly made her entrance, banging the depot's door open.

The group could only look at her silhouette standing under the frame, with one hand on her hip and her gaze raised up high.

"So, these are the people looking for our friend?" Camille asked, her voice echoing inside the abandoned building.

Faelyn and the others were silent. Even if they couldn't comprehend her words, her tone and pose were imposing and firm.

After Camille took a few steps forward, Gabriel's eyes widened when her visage was fully visible to him, and Sylas noticed the angel's strange expression.

Letting out a gasp, Gabriel quickly took a few steps towards Camille, alerting everyone in the room as the angel looked somewhat menacing.

Maya pulled out her gun while the warlock's party grabbed their weapons, preparing themselves to stop the angel in his tracks. However, when Gabriel dropped to his knees before Camille and bowed solemnly, everyone raised their eyebrows with utter confusion.

"Goddess of this world. Please, forgive my intrusion…" Gabriel muttered, prompting the warlock's party to be completely perplexed and shocked.

"Hey, Cami. Do you know this guy?" Maya asked, putting her pistol back in her holster.

"I have no idea who this man is…" Camille replied, looking down at the kneeling, armored angel with a questioning glare.
