MHA: Super My Hero Record

Chapter 5: Ch: 05

"Form a team? Me and All Might?"

"Yeah, but it's only temporary."

Despite maintaining his composed expression, Gogeta was stunned by the hero's proposal. Even if he had knocked All Might from the top spot by chance, the man before him was still the Symbol of Peace. His true strength was something even Gogeta, despite his brief hero career, recognized as extraordinary.

While defeating villains was one thing, what truly set All Might apart was his unwavering commitment to saving people, always achieving results in the shortest possible time. Even Gogeta, who had built a solid foundation during his internship, found it difficult to help others with such precision.

Of course, I intend to reach that level someday, but the fact remains that the person before me is a hero who is several steps ahead of me.

All Might, the Symbol of Peace. If I were to team up with him, I could grow significantly as a hero.

"Well, I appreciate the offer, but... why me? I may be considered the No. 1 hero now, but I'm still a rookie with little experience. I don't think it would be easy for you to benefit from working with me."

"I've already received the benefits."

"Huh?"

Even if we team up, I'm the only one who stands to gain anything, a rookie hero. If I only receive benefits and can't give anything back, does that really make sense as a team?

Just as Gogeta was pondering this, a mysterious smile appeared on All Might's face, and suddenly, smoke began billowing from his body.

"All Might, smoke!?"

"Ah, it's okay. It's just that my 'time' has come."

Ignoring Gogeta, who had jumped up from the sofa in confusion, All Might remained calm as the mysterious smoke-like phenomenon continued to emerge from his body.

Gradually, the smoke enveloped All Might's entire form. As everyone watched in anticipation, wondering what would happen next...

"This is who I am now, Gogeta."

"What...!?"

His body had withered away, resembling a dried tree. The muscular, imposing man had suddenly transformed into a frail, skeletal figure. The change was so drastic that Gogeta couldn't believe his eyes.

"All Might was... Gariboo!?"

"Who's that?"

The image of a certain skinny demon character flashed through his mind.

"And so, from the dawn of the Quirk society, such a connection..."

"It may be hard to believe, but it's the truth. There are others who know of this as well."

"Ah, no, I'm not doubting you. I'm just genuinely surprised."

All Might, now revealed as Yagi Toshinori, had shown his weakened form after his Quirk had been damaged. From his mouth emerged a tale of evil that had been ongoing since the dawn of Quirk society.

That individual had emerged before the abnormal society powered by the supernatural force of Quirks, using the ability to "steal" Quirks to rise to the pinnacle of humanity and spread malice across the world.

The one who stood against that evil was the younger brother of the evil mastermind, and the Quirk "One For All" that All Might possessed had been passed down to him like a sacred flame. The battle between these two Quirks that had continued since the dawn of Quirk society was the fate of those who inherited One For All. The scar on his left side was from that battle, he concluded, showing the mark and bringing his story to a temporary halt.

Gogeta... Goto Shintaro was surprised by the story, which seemed hard to believe, but he didn't question it. After all, the power within him was that of the super warrior he had always admired. The superhuman strength he had only seen on TV was now manifesting in his own body.

Reincarnation. For Gogeta, who believed himself to be a special case in this world, All Might's story was more than enough to convince him.

"So, that villain who seems to be the root of all evil, is he still alive?"

"I don't think so. I still remember the feeling when I punched him in the face. This scar is from that time."

"Then why did you tell me this story? ...You didn't tell me because you think I should be All Might's successor?"

"!! You are worthy of being my successor! When I saw you destroy that giant meteorite, I was certain of it. But..."

"But?"

"I think it's a little different."

All Might smiled with a sad and disappointed expression.

"You already have your own image of a hero to pursue. 'It's okay to cry, to fall, to cry from the pain. Those who rise from that place are the true heroes.' Seeing you say that, I couldn't go through with it."

"─────"

"Follow the path you believe in. I will believe in you and support you on your journey."

"All Might..."

"And our Quirk, 'One For All,' inevitably warps a person's life. The will of those who have passed it down, my own will—it might distort the way the next heir should be."

"So, does that mean One For All ends with All Might?"

"I don't know. But if I pass this Quirk on to someone, I'll definitely tell you."

"I see."

A heavy silence filled the living room. A Quirk born from a single act of malice and the history of a battle against the embodiment of evil. The origins and connections were heavy and intense. Realizing that this was a weightier conversation than he had anticipated, Gogeta asked All Might again.

"Um, so in the end... why did you decide to team up with someone like me?"

"Huh? Because you're in a really tough spot right now, aren't you? Especially with all the paperwork."

All Might pointed toward a mountain of papers piled up on a nearby table. Gogeta, who had completely forgotten about it during their conversation, covered his face in frustration.

"I'm not very good at administrative work either. I had a hard time balancing it with my hero activities back in the day."

"All Might too?"

"Yeah, especially since you're just starting out on your own, there's a lot you don't know yet. If you neglect things like tax returns and other paperwork, you'll end up in hell later on."

All Might's expression darkened as he spoke with the conviction of experience, and even Gogeta could tell that he wasn't bluffing. His gaunt appearance only added weight to his words.

"If we team up, we can temporarily merge our administrative tasks. My agency has plenty of people who excel at that kind of work. Until you're truly recognized as the No. 1 hero and establish yourself as a new deterrent, I'll teach you everything you need to know."

"Why go to such lengths?"

"If someone is in trouble, helping them is only natural. Going the extra mile, that's the essence of being a hero."

"———"

As he said that and smiled, Gogeta felt he had glimpsed the true nature of this Symbol of Peace. A person who prioritized others above all else, even at the expense of himself. The man before him, Yagi Toshinori, was exactly that kind of person—Gogeta's instincts whispered this truth to him.

From now on, this man will likely continue to sacrifice himself endlessly for others. As long as there are those in need, he will remain a hero until the very end. "A human sacrifice." The phrase flashed through Gogeta's mind as he looked at that smile.

He would continue to fight, even if a gruesome fate awaited him at the end. If that was the case, there was only one thing Goto Shintaro could do for such a man.

"All Might, could you come with me for a moment?"

"Over there... the stairs? Could it be the basement?"

"I have something I want to show you."

"Hmm, so the basement of such a stylish living room looks like this."

"I asked the support department at U.A. High School to create this for me, and had a researcher design it. It's built so that it doesn't extend beyond the property lines."

All Might, now in his slender form, was led to the basement. This was a special training space built by the support staff at U.A. High School, constructed during Gogeta's internship. The cost had been covered by the savings he had accumulated during that time.

The training area, though sterile, was brightly lit. All Might, who felt a sense of déjà vu about the design, looked around until his steps led him to a particular wall. Upon reaching it, a voice echoed from within, followed by elaborate facial and retinal recognition procedures. Eventually, a section of the wall opened.

What emerged was a small box, barely large enough to hold a few items. Gogeta carefully carried it back to All Might.

All Might tilted his head in confusion, but Gogeta remained serious as he removed the lid from the box.

"What is this... beans, right?"

Inside the box were a few beans, resembling fresh edamame with a vibrant jade-green color.

"These are special beans I created during the process of perfecting a certain technique. They're a lower-tier version of the 'Senzu Beans.'"

"Senzu beans?"

"Beans said to be eaten by hermits, with the ability to satisfy hunger and heal any wound instantly. I made this version on my own."

"Hermits? Are those safe to eat?"

"I've already tested the effects myself. Eating one suppresses appetite for over four days, cures stomach pain, and is easy to digest. Even in your current state, All Might, you should be able to eat it."

"Well, I kind of thought it might turn out that way, but... are you serious?"

"If you trust me, please try it."

He took a single bean and placed it in All Might's palm. The beans said to be eaten by hermits looked like ordinary edamame, but for some reason, they now appeared ominous. All Might felt uneasy. He looked back and forth between Gogeta and the beans several times, then the Symbol of Peace finally made up his mind.

"Alright. Since it's you who's saying it, I'll believe you."

He grasped the bean and bit into it. The crunch of the bean spread through his mouth, bringing back the familiar taste of edamame he hadn't experienced in ages.

There was no bitterness or astringency, just the ordinary taste of a bean. He thought about how he'd like to have a drink after this, but... nothing seemed to happen.

Huh? Maybe it didn't work? After all that buildup, it was a bit of a letdown—

But then it happened.

He felt every cell in his body pulsating.

"Guh, pfft?"

"All Might!"

A strange sensation rose from the back of his throat. Before he could resist, a large amount of blood gushed from All Might's mouth.

Black, thick, heavy blood. The massive amount of blood spewing onto the floor had already filled what would be several buckets. Clearly a lethal amount... yet All Might's face, despite the agonizing expression, seemed to grow brighter rather than darker.

After expelling every last drop, All Might was stunned by the new sensation he felt within himself.

"—I can breathe!? Gogeta, what is this!?"

The agony that had been slowly consuming him, allowing him to breathe only with great difficulty, now felt like a distant memory. The suffocation was incomparably lighter than before, and above all... he could feel it.

"Most likely, the repair of your most severely damaged respiratory organs was prioritized. That black blood consists of the dead cells that were inside you. The bean is expelling them and creating new organs."

"What—create organs? How can it be so simple..."

"Yes, that's precisely why you must not tell anyone about these beans. I originally bought regular edamame beans from a vegetable shop in town to perfect a technique I'm working on. By infusing them with my ki, I was able to create these 'Senzu Beans.'"

Gogeta, the technique Goto Shintaro was aiming for was the signature move of his namesake, known as "that ultimate technique." It was a purifying divine art that eliminated only evil and freed the imprisoned. Though still far from completion, Goto Shintaro had created these "mock Senzu Beans" as a side project, attempting to understand the technique from a different perspective.

Since they were imitations, they didn't fully regenerate like the genuine article. The original could even restore missing limbs, but these were merely a different variety, cultivated by infusing his own ki into ordinary beans.

Their effects and benefits were minimal compared to the original, but they still seemed to have some effect on All Might, who was perpetually in critical condition.

"Your current state is one where you're expelling damaged cells and creating new ones. If you eat these Senzu Bean imitations regularly, you should be able to recover enough to live a normal life, even if you don't fully heal."

"Why... why go to such lengths for me?"

All Might was bewildered by the extent of care Gogeta was showing him. This time, it was Gogeta's turn to smile confidently.

"All Might, Symbol of Peace. From now on, I'll be counting on you to help me become the true No. 1 hero. Think of this as a down payment."

"But... this is too much! There's nothing I can give you in return..."

"Hey, hey, what's wrong, No. 2? Didn't you just tell me that heroes are supposed to go the extra mile?"

"What!?"

"I am Gogeta, the 'Ultra' hero. I may not be able to live up to all your ideals, but... I will become a hero worthy of receiving the heavy baton you're passing on. I'll count on you to see me through to the end, senpai."

Bold and fearless. Gogeta's words were cocky, cheeky, and yet powerful. All Might was stunned by the outstretched hand offered to him, but he gradually regained his smile.

"────I knew you were a cocky hero, but I didn't expect this! You got me, Gogeta! Fine, I'll take you up on that challenge!"

Smoke billowed from Yagi Toshinori's body. His slender frame grew thick and sturdy, and his drooping bangs once again defied gravity.

"Once again, I request to team up with you! Will you accept?"

"That's exactly what I want!"

No. 1 and No. 2. This was how the unbeatable strongest team was born.

"...Alright, then let's start with..."

"Cleaning up this mess, shall we?"

The first task undertaken by the two heroes, the "Ultra Hero" and the "Symbol of Peace", was... cleaning up the blood spattered across the floor.

"Damn it! What kind of new No. 1 is this? What kind of 'Ultra Hero' are you?!"

Flames raged, swirling and burning the training equipment around them, reducing the room to ash.

The man who had once been No. 2, the man of flames, stood there. At his feet lay a boy with hair split between red and white.

"How long do you plan to stay down there?! Get up! You have a mission to surpass them!"

"Dad, stop! If you keep this up, Shoto will die!"

"Shut up and stay quiet! You stay out of this!"

"Sister, I'm okay, so..."

"Stop! Shoto, you stop too!"

The man's angry shouts and the woman's screams echoed in the boy's ears.

He had always despised the man in front of him, but lately it had become unbearable. He was certain that if he resisted now, the man's anger would turn toward his sister. This No. 2 hero had lost his mind.

Endure. For now, endure at all costs and focus his anger on me. The boy, with fresh burns on his face, approached the raging man with an exhausted expression, determined to protect his sobbing sister.

The sister, unable to do anything but watch the scene unfold, could only pray.

"─────Someone, please help us!"
