Chapter 448: Chapter 448
Bruce Banner was deeply concerned. Would creating such a powerful robot army threaten humanity itself?
This wasn't just some movie plot—there were real discussions and studies on the topic.
Some scientists believed that if robots were to develop independent intelligence, humanity's status could be shaken to its core.
"Banner, it's a shame you weren't in that livestream. Otherwise, you wouldn't be asking this kind of question."
Tony Stark adjusted his sunglasses as he spoke.
"In a certain universe, there's a robot called Doraemon. In that world, there are countless highly intelligent robots with self-awareness and emotions. Yet they live in harmony with humans, even acting as babysitters."
"So just because a robot has artificial intelligence doesn't mean it will automatically turn against us. On the contrary, it could become our friend—just like my JARVIS."
Tony gave an example, hoping to convince Banner.
Banner still looked a bit hesitant.
"You really don't need to worry so much. The Containment Foundation in my previous universe also had robot armies—highly intelligent, but without any thoughts of rebellion."
Cain chimed in to help persuade him.
"In fact, as long as we implant a 100% failsafe command in each robot—to never harm humans—and a behavioral monitoring system, we can ensure safety. If no activity is detected, or if abnormal behavior is detected, the robot self-destructs. Even if someone tries to dismantle it, it'll self-destruct too. That way, we minimize the risk."
"That's a solid plan!"
Hearing Cain speak up for him, Tony nodded in strong agreement, adjusting his sunglasses with a satisfied smile.
Indeed, chatting with someone worldly and sharp-minded like Cain was so much easier.
"Alright, since you two are so confident, I'll agree. But we absolutely must have countermeasures in place."
Banner reluctantly agreed after seeing Cain's stance.
"So, what exactly do you need from us? Helping you with the research? Mass production? You can probably handle that yourself, right?"
Even after agreeing, Banner was still puzzled by Tony's reasons for calling them here.
With Tony's abilities, he could easily mass-produce robots on his own—so why involve them?
"Actually, this robot army still needs a powerful AI core to control all its operations, like a commander in the military. That's what I'm talking about—Ultron."
As Tony spoke, he made a big circle around the words "Ultron" on the whiteboard behind him.
"To command so many robots, we need the most advanced, most powerful AI—one that can issue precise orders in the chaos of battle and make the right decisions in an instant."
"Plus, it can monitor the entire world and dispatch robots immediately when it detects danger."
Tony grew more and more excited, explaining his vision with great enthusiasm.
"Hold on! Hold on! You said 'monitor the whole world'? Tony Stark, that's a violation of personal freedom!"
Banner interrupted, feeling alarmed at the direction things were going.
"Banner, I know it sounds problematic, and I'll be monitored too. I know what it means. But this is for the planet, for humanity, for peace."
Tony understood how it sounded, but after seeing so many terrifying SCPs, he felt that sacrificing a little freedom was a small price to pay.
Better that than realizing the danger only after lives had been lost.
"No wonder you only invited the two of us. If Cap found out, he'd definitely pick a fight with you."
Banner gave Tony a troubled look.
"No kidding. That fossil can't understand my ideas—same with the others."
Tony replied grumpily.
He could already imagine how furious Steve would be if he learned of this plan, lecturing him with a bunch of speeches about freedom.
"Are you going to tell Nick Fury? I think he'd be interested in this project."
Cain brought up the point.
"Please, I don't want that old fox involved. Even less so those politicians—otherwise, this'll just turn into someone's private army."
Tony shook his head. He had no intention of reporting what he was up to.
"But if we get caught, we'll be accused of harboring a private army. It could cause major trouble."
Banner still looked quite anxious.
"Don't worry. When the time comes, I'll handle everything. You just need to focus. Are you in or not?"
Tony didn't want to waste time arguing and pushed Banner for a decision.
"Alright, alright."
Seeing Tony's insistence, Banner finally raised his hands in surrender.
"I'm in. But we need to make sure the AI can control all the robots first. As for global surveillance, we'll talk about that later."
Banner made sure to set his own conditions.
"No problem."
Tony readily agreed.
"Artificial intelligence, huh… I helped develop a lot of things in my universe, but AI is new to me. At most, I understand the theories."
Cain said thoughtfully.
"Well, your 'understanding' is probably quite advanced. Don't forget, your world's technology is way beyond ours. You can act as a consultant."
Tony smiled at Cain.
"By the way, you mentioned before that if we want to match your universe's tech, it's nearly impossible—mainly because we lack certain materials. Can you tell me the properties of those materials? Ideally, their composition or even molecular structure. With my current ability to manipulate matter, I might be able to recreate them."
Tony's eyes gleamed with excitement.
Ever since he saw the Scranton Reality Anchor, he'd been envious of the Containment Foundation's technology.
Now that he had someone from that universe—Cain—right here, he had to find a way to develop those materials.
With the Void Engine and detailed information from Cain, material issues could definitely be solved.
"Alright, I'll give it a try. I'm actually quite curious to see how this world's famous scientist, Tony Stark, handles the problem of materials."
Cain was intrigued.
"Oh, right, Tony, there's something I've been wanting to ask you."
At that moment, Banner spoke up, staring at Tony's face.
"Hm?"
Tony looked at Banner, puzzled.
"What's up with your eye? Did you get hit?"
Banner pointed at Tony's left eye.
Ever since they met, Tony had been wearing sunglasses, never taking them off, even indoors.
They hadn't had any formal meetings during their Ultron discussion.
But as Tony turned slightly toward Banner, Banner had noticed a dark bruise under Tony's left eye—it looked like a black eye.
