"Compensation? I don't need those hypocritical compensations. I only ask that he pay with his life," Wilson Fisk said coldly, a cruel smile forming at the corner of his lips.

Before Brock Rumlow—Crossbones—could respond from the other end of the line, Kingpin acted without hesitation.

He tightened his grip around the Winter Soldier's neck, as if crushing a mere insect.

Bucky Barnes, the legendary Winter Soldier—an elite operative who had endured the horrors of World War II and Hydra's brainwashing—had thought he'd seen all manners of death. But he never expected to meet his end like this. His eyes widened in disbelief, filled with reluctance and shock, as if screaming: "How is this possible?"

"You actually killed the Winter Soldier. We won't let you walk away from this," Crossbones growled, staring at the screen showing Bucky's lifeless body, issuing a harsh warning.

But to Kingpin, such threats meant nothing.

He casually crushed the phone in his hand. Bits of metal and circuitry shattered and scattered across the floor, echoing with a sharp, crisp sound.

Then he sneered. "Winter Soldier? I'll be seeing you soon myself." With that, he turned and left, Vanessa at his side, never looking back.

Their silhouettes slowly disappeared into the night, leaving behind only the Winter Soldier's corpse and the shattered pieces of a burner phone strewn across the ground.

. . . . . . . . .

Director Alexander Pierce had watched the entire exchange through a surveillance feed. Seeing the infamous assassin Bucky Barnes die at the hands of Wilson Fisk, he calmly removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes before giving a quiet command.

"Show Nick Fury the Winter Soldier's corpse and the video. Make sure there's no trace of tampering. That's all we need to do."

The intelligence officers in the room assumed Pierce was shaken by the death of the Winter Soldier. Heads bowed, they said nothing.

None of them realized that in Pierce's mind, there was no sorrow—only satisfaction and anticipation.

His fingers trembled ever so slightly as he rubbed his eyes, the corners of his mouth curving upward into the faintest of smiles. In his mind's eye, he could already see the Avengers clashing with Alex Ray in a battle that would reshape everything.

Crossbones quickly set to work, relaying Pierce's orders down the chain. The entire room remained dead silent, each person terrified of provoking the director's displeasure.

. . . . . . . . .

The next morning, Alex Ray awoke early. Still groggy, he was jolted awake when Wanda contacted him with chilling news: Kingpin had been attacked, and the Winter Soldier was dead.

Alex snapped fully awake, the impact of the news hitting hard.

So much for improving his rapport with Captain America. Not that he particularly liked Steve Rogers in the first place. If they weren't aligned, there was no reason to force a connection just to benefit the system.

At the moment, S.H.I.E.L.D. still hadn't publicly reacted, but Alex knew that wouldn't last long. A confrontation with the Avengers was inevitable now.

The current Avengers roster included Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow—maybe Captain Marvel if they went that far.

Most of the original Avengers weren't even present yet. The Hulk hadn't surfaced, and Thor hadn't arrived on Earth.

To Alex, this version of the Avengers posed no real threat.

He chuckled coldly. Alexander Pierce had approached him just days ago about a potential collaboration, and now he couldn't wait to target the people around him. Typical.

But Alex wasn't worried about Tony Stark. Stark was family now. Even if he did join the Avengers, all Alex had to do was tell Tony the truth about who murdered his parents. He was certain Tony would abandon the Avengers in a heartbeat.

What Alex didn't know yet was that Nick Fury, in a desperate bid to control the situation, had gone to extreme lengths: recruiting not only the Fantastic Four, but also spending lavishly to enlist Professor X and the X-Men—and even dragging in the imprisoned Purple Man.

. . . . . . . . .

S.H.I.E.L.D. Trident Headquarters.

Nick Fury was personally escorting Tony Stark through the facility.

"This is the command center of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Fury said, pride in his voice. "Your father helped found it."

Tony nodded absently, clearly unimpressed. "That's great. Just give me what my father left me. I'm not interested in anything else here."

"Relax. We sincerely invite you to join the Avengers to prepare for large-scale threats," Fury said smoothly.

He desperately wanted Tony on board. Howard Stark's legacy mattered, but more than that, Tony was loaded. With Tony Stark's name tied to the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. could secure vast funding and resources.

Tony's expression turned cold. "I'm not interested in playing super boy band. Just hand over what's mine."

Truthfully, if Fury hadn't mentioned that Howard had left something behind, Tony wouldn't have even entertained this conversation.

But Tony had learned to read people. And he could already tell that the man in front of him—Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.—was a manipulative snake.

"I know your condition is serious," Fury said, his voice low and measured. "If you join us, we might be able to find a cure."

He thought he had Tony in a corner. Everyone knew about the palladium poisoning from Tony's arc reactor. The element that powered his suit was also slowly killing him.

He thought he held the trump card.

Tony raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Give me the stuff now or I'm leaving."

Thanks to Alex Ray's generosity, Tony had long since recovered. The Senzu Beans Alex gave him not only healed his body but enhanced it. And with the schematics for a new element also gifted to him, Tony had developed an upgraded arc reactor that was both clean and efficient.

His current reactor—sleek, compact, powerful—was his proudest achievement.

So when Fury tried to threaten him, Tony found it almost laughable.

"Aren't you afraid of dying?" Fury asked, clearly baffled.

Tony smiled calmly. "Who told you I was dying? If you keep saying that, I'll sue you for defamation."

Fury's brow furrowed. Something wasn't adding up.

All his intel said that Tony Stark was slowly dying. The medical files, the lab data—they were all clear.

But the man standing before him looked stronger and more confident than ever.

Unshaken.

Unreachable.

Fury led him further into the heart of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s archives…

He led Tony into the deepest conference room of the facility, just as Tony was about to lose his patience.

At that moment, Nick Fury pushed open the door, then turned to Tony with a sharp smile.

"Welcome to the Avengers."

Inside the room, Tony immediately recognized a few familiar faces—Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, and Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye. And sitting calmly at the table was someone he hadn't seen in a long time: Steve Rogers, Captain America.

But it wasn't just old acquaintances that caught Tony's attention.

Seated nearby was a bald man in a wheelchair, his eyes sharp and filled with quiet intelligence. There was an unmistakable air of wisdom about him—Tony instantly pegged him as either a scientist or a high-level strategist.

Next to him stood a middle-aged man in a white doctor's coat, casually chatting with the bald man, his expression gentle and unassuming.

But what truly made Tony raise an eyebrow was the group standing at the far end of the room.

Three individuals wore matching blue uniforms with a prominent "4" emblazoned on their chests. They were speaking casually with a fourth figure—a towering stone-skinned man with a broad frame and gravelly voice.

The Fantastic Four.

Tony took a moment to glance around the room. Each person carried their own distinct energy—unique abilities, different backgrounds, different histories—but there was one thing they all had in common.

They were here for a reason.

And they had chosen to stand on the same side.
