Marvel : Deadpool Is My Best Friend

Chapter 158: Chapter 158 : Welcome to Hydra and the Nuclear Launch

Looking at Nick Fury's bloodied corpse lying in a pool of crimson, Reed Richards felt no sorrow—only regret.

Not regret over Fury's death, but regret for boarding a ship he now realized was a pirate vessel.

He understood clearly: the moment Director Alexander Pierce dared to shout "Hail Hydra" in front of him, it meant Pierce had no fear of witnesses.

Now, two choices remained for Reed Richards: join Hydra—or attempt to fight his way out.

There was no third path. The third option was death.

Reed didn't want to die, nor did he believe he had the strength to defeat Pierce's enforcers—especially not with Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, standing right there, a master of combat.

Which left only one option: join Hydra.

And to Reed, joining Hydra wasn't necessarily a problem—so long as it helped him realize his grand ambitions.

In fact, with Hydra's backing, he might just reach the pinnacle of his life's work.

His current priority was proving his value. If he could impress Pierce and secure a place in Hydra, the rest would follow.

While Reed calculated his next move, Pierce stood over Fury's ruined body, savoring the moment.

It all felt strangely surreal.

He couldn't help but question—was this really Nick Fury?

To confirm, Pierce removed his glasses and calmly ordered his men to collect blood samples for DNA comparison.

The Hydra operatives moved swiftly.

Once the samples were taken, Pierce gave a new order: incinerate the body.

Flamethrowers roared, consuming the remains of the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director.

As the flames lit up the darkened rooftop, Pierce's emotions stirred.

Relief—finally rid of a powerful adversary.

But also a hint of emptiness.

Nick Fury had been a constant presence in his life—a rival, an obstacle, a game piece. Without him, a strange silence now echoed in the void.

Still, Pierce composed himself quickly.

There was no longer anyone who could stand in his way. He was free to pursue his ambitions, unshackled.

And Reed Richards would either become an asset—or be eliminated.

Pierce exchanged a subtle glance with Crossbones, a silent message passing between them:

Watch Richards. If he does anything suspicious—kill him.

Crossbones understood immediately. His fingers twitched with anticipation, eager to take the scientist apart.

C'mon, you pompous nerd, he thought. Make a move.

But Reed Richards didn't take the bait.

Instead, he smiled graciously and bowed slightly to Pierce.

Then said something that caught both men off guard.

"I never expected the esteemed Director Pierce to be a member of Hydra. I've heard whispers of Hydra's name over the years... I wonder—would there be an opportunity for me to join?"

Pierce raised an eyebrow. Crossbones scowled.

Before either could respond, Reed continued quickly, "To prove my loyalty, I can offer you a plan—one that will erase Hell's Kitchen from the map."

Now he had Pierce's full attention.

Hell's Kitchen—and Alex Ray—had long been thorns in Hydra's side. With Fury gone, S.H.I.E.L.D. would eventually have to face Alex Ray directly.

But Alex Ray wasn't someone easily dealt with. His powers were formidable. His allies, deadly.

Pierce gestured silently for Reed to continue.

Reed exhaled in relief. This was his moment.

"I was with the Avengers," Reed began, "I've studied Alex Ray's battles in detail. And yes—he's won every single one."

Pierce's expression darkened. Complimenting the enemy wasn't the smartest move.

Sensing he'd gone too far, Reed quickly added, "But there is one thing Alex Ray cannot defend against."

Now Crossbones stepped closer, intrigued.

"What is it?" he asked, voice low.

Reed looked them both in the eye and said, "The Nuclear."

Crossbones' face contorted in disbelief.

"You're outta your damn mind!" he shouted. "You wanna nuke New York? Are you insane?! That's the New York—millions of people!"

"Is Alex Ray worth it?" he spat. "Over one guy and his gang in Hell's Kitchen?"

Pierce remained silent, though his discomfort was visible. He didn't care much about civilians—but unleashing a nuclear weapon on American soil was another matter.

"I don't like your idea," Pierce said coldly. "You know the consequences."

"Of course," Reed replied calmly. "That's why I have a solution. What if we say that Nick Fury—acting alone—launched the nuke without authorization? You discovered it just in time... but too late to stop it. Out of fear of punishment, Fury committed suicide."

Pierce's eyes lit up.

It was brilliant.

The blame would fall squarely on the dead man. Hydra's hands would remain clean.

Crossbones stared at Reed, disturbed. This wasn't just strategy—it was cold-blooded mass murder.

Millions of people—erased. Just to kill Alex Ray.

Pierce weighed the plan and then reached into his coat.

He pulled out a phone and handed it to Reed.

"One press of this button," he said, "and Hydra's warheads launch."

Then he turned to Crossbones and signaled for them to leave the room.

They didn't go far. Just enough to give Reed the illusion of privacy—while still watching closely, ready to kill if he tried to escape.

The choice now rested with Reed Richards.

It was no longer about whether to eliminate Alex Ray.

It was a choice between Reed's own survival—or the lives of millions in New York.

He stared at the phone, sweat forming on his brow.

He picked it up. Put it down. Picked it up again.

The weight of it bore down on him like the lives it represented.

He knew—whatever he decided, nothing would ever be the same again.

He…

He put down his phone, his heart filled with pain and helplessness.

However, Pierce outside the house said, "I forgot to tell you, if you don't press it after 30 seconds, the big nuclear will automatically launch."

Reed was stunned when he heard Pierce's words. He glanced at his phone and found that the launch command had been automatically sent out.

Reid's eyes snapped open and he stared at the phone screen in disbelief.

Sure enough, the countdown for the launch command had already begun and he couldn't stop it.

"You..." Reed looked at Pierce, his eyes filled with anger and despair.

He didn't expect that this seemingly gentle man could be so vicious.

Pierce clapped, "Welcome to Hydra, Mr. Fantastic."

He hugged Reed, who was still confused, and walked out together. Before leaving, Pierce paused and turned to Crossbones and ordered: "Kill all the soldiers in the house who heard these things."

After saying that, Pierce continued to hug Reed and walked out. Countless gunshots rang out, and the soldiers in the house fell one after another.

Their lives were lost to Pierce's machinations, victims of Hydra's ambitions.
