Chapter 159: Chapter 159 : Don't Forget I Have Portal
"Tony, look at this place. It used to be vibrant and full of life, but now it's been wrecked by the federal government."
Alex Ray gestured toward the decaying streets and buildings surrounding them, his tone filled with frustration and indignation. "As the head of Stark Industries, don't you think you should help revive the local economy?"
He held Tony by the arm with a grip that made his intentions clear: You're not leaving without pitching in.
Tony gave Alex an exasperated look, mentally sighing.
This guy is seriously money-hungry. If I'd known this was what he had planned, I wouldn't have come.
And seriously, Alex, have a little shame. This is Hell's Kitchen—the city's underbelly. You're calling a crime-ridden, weapon-trafficking slum 'full of life'?
And could you maybe stop grinning like that while you say it? That's not righteous indignation. That's straight-up extortion.
Still, Tony was surprised. He hadn't expected the federal agents to be cleared out of Hell's Kitchen so quickly.
Guess I should start showing up here more often—maybe liaise with some of these people, run a few field tests, and build a couple more suits.
"Alright, alright," Tony said with a sigh. "I'll put up a building here for research and development. After all, you've gathered quite a few PhDs around you, but not a single lab. That's a waste of talent."
Alex didn't look satisfied.
He pressed on, "And look at the streets—doesn't this place need infrastructure upgrades? There's a saying: 'To get rich, build roads first.' So, think you could donate a bit more?"
Tony chuckled, amused despite himself.
"Alex, quit trying to squeeze me dry! Didn't the feds just pull out? Go ask them for reparations! And don't you know magic? Why not just fix everything with a spell?"
Tony genuinely didn't understand why Alex insisted on throwing money at a problem when he had such absurd magical abilities.
"It's not that I don't have spells for this," Alex replied confidently, "but if I did, I wouldn't be bugging you."
Though Alex lacked that kind of spell, he knew the Ancient One's Time Stone could rewind the city to its former state.
But he didn't want to involve her.
Every time he crossed paths with the Ancient One, it led to some cosmic-level mess. Who knew what kind of karmic debt he'd incur if he asked her to use the Time Stone?
Plus, even if the place was restored, it would only return to its old, rundown state. Alex wanted a full renovation.
Just as he was about to ask Tony for more funding, he noticed Tony's expression shift drastically.
Tony was staring at a series of holographic screens in front of him, his fingers moving rapidly across the interface, his face tense with urgency.
"What is it?" Alex asked, concerned.
Tony looked up, fear flashing in his eyes. "The federal bastards just dropped three nuclear warheads on Hell's Kitchen. They're planning to level the entire Manhattan!"
Alex was stunned, but only briefly. He regained composure quickly.
So the feds hadn't given up that easily.
It was déjà vu. The first time this happened, Alex hadn't been sure he could stop the bomb. This time, he had options—plenty of them.
Hell's Kitchen had a defensive barrier capable of absorbing the explosion. The radiation afterward, however, posed a serious issue.
But Alex had backup plans.
What intrigued him more was figuring out who was ruthless enough to obliterate the entire city.
Nick Fury wouldn't do this, he thought. He'd never sacrifice millions of civilians. Someone else wants me dead.
After finishing his diagnostics, Tony said grimly, "There's no way to redirect them in time. We've got less than three minutes."
There was no time for further tech solutions. Tony glanced at Alex, hoping—though not expecting—he had a miracle ready.
After all, it was Tony who had resolved the previous nuke crisis. Now there were three warheads, and Tony assumed they were screwed.
But Alex simply patted him on the shoulder.
"Relax. I've got this."
His voice radiated such confidence and calm that Tony felt an unexpected sense of reassurance.
"But..." Tony hesitated. He knew how serious the threat was and didn't want Alex throwing himself into danger out of overconfidence.
"I've still got a portal. Remember?" Alex said with a smile.
Tony paused—then realization dawned.
Of course! The Sling Ring. They could use portals to transport the nukes elsewhere.
A wave of relief washed over Tony as he remembered just how many aces Alex had up his sleeve.
"Also," Alex added, "tell Jarvis to send a text alert. Let everyone in the Manhattan know not to panic. I'll handle it."
Calming the populace was just as important as stopping the bombs. Chaos could be just as deadly.
With that, Alex launched into the sky.
The Manhattan
News of the incoming nukes spread like wildfire through the city. A metaphorical bomb had already dropped—panic gripped the streets.
People ran screaming through alleys and avenues, eyes wide with terror. Children clung to their parents, afraid to let go for even a second.
Storefronts were hastily shuttered. Roads emptied, save for the whistling wind and the sound of sirens.
And then came the message.
Every phone, every screen in the city lit up with the same, stark warning:
"The Nuclear is coming."
The phrase hit like a gut punch, sending shockwaves through the populace.
Some tried to flee the city, believing they could make it out in time.
Others didn't believe the message—thinking it was a hoax, a drill, or propaganda.
Still, many stood frozen, eyes turned skyward, as if expecting to see death descending from above.
Airports, train stations, and bus terminals were flooded with desperate crowds trying to escape.
But not everyone chose to run.
Some, believing the end was inevitable, let their despair consume them.
Riots broke out. Stores were looted. Fires were set.
Chaos spiraled across the Manhattan . Lawless opportunists took advantage of the madness, tearing through the city like wolves.
The social fabric began to unravel as panic gave way to anarchy.
But high above it all, Alex Ray hovered—silent, focused, and ready.
