When Alex Ray and his group walked into the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, he immediately sensed the tension thickening the air.

Along both sides of the corridor, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents appeared one after another, their eyes wary and filled with a palpable fear of Alex.

The guns in their hands were locked tightly on Alex and Tony Stark, poised to fire without hesitation if anyone made a sudden move.

Alex glanced upward and noticed a security camera fixed silently in the corner.

He knew Nick Fury was watching everything closely from the monitoring room.

A teasing smile curled at the corner of Alex's mouth as he slowly addressed the camera: "Are you really going to let these people keep dying? Nick Fury? You know they can't stop me."

He continued, "I'm not the type to enjoy killing. I just want to find what belongs to me. Killing is tedious."

His tone carried a weariness and helplessness, as if all the conflicts around him were burdens he never wanted to bear.

Then, Alex turned his gaze toward the armed agents and smiled gently. "Don't be nervous. I really'm not that kind of person."

There was a genuine kindness in his voice, as if reassuring the agents that he was not some merciless enemy.

Alex didn't see himself as bloodthirsty. Compared to many in Hell's Kitchen, he considered himself a good citizen.

However, the agents saw that seemingly friendly smile as devilish. Their eyes sharpened with suspicion and tension, their grip on their weapons tightening as they sought security in cold steel.

They knew well that the man before them, despite his calm demeanor, was hiding dangerous depths.

Tony rolled his eyes at Alex's words. He never thought Alex was such a shameless liar. Hell's Kitchen bred men like that—lying without blinking. Still, Tony didn't bother to argue. Alex wasn't bloodthirsty.

His goal had always been simple: recover Buggy's body. The less killing, the better.

Alex didn't like violence or seeing innocents hurt.

Despite everything, Tony had to admit Alex was right.

Compared to others in Hell's Kitchen, Alex was genuinely a better citizen.

Tony had done a deep dive into Alex's background. Except for his obsession with money and his disdain for a certain Ni Ge, he found Alex sincere to friends and kind to those around him.

His kindness showed in his deeds—setting up a school in Hell's Kitchen and adopting orphans.

What stood out most was Alex's belief in equality.

Whether dealing with a Hell's Kitchen beggar or a billionaire, Alex treated everyone the same.

Tony admired this quality deeply—it was one reason their unlikely friendship had lasted.

Though their origins were worlds apart, their bond was rare and precious.

On the other side of the camera, Nick Fury listened to Alex's words, his eyes burning with anger and icy resolve.

To Fury, Alex's "kindness" was arrogant defiance and a slap to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s face.

Alex Ray was lawless.

He must be stopped at all costs.

Fury's hands clenched into white-knuckled fists.

No one disrespected S.H.I.E.L.D. on his watch. No one acted so arrogantly in his domain.

Agent Coulson, standing nearby, met Fury's gaze with firm determination.

"Director, don't worry. No S.H.I.E.L.D. agent here is a coward. We'll hold that arrogant bastard, Alex Ray, in check."

What scholar could tolerate such insolence?

As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Coulson was furious that this enemy dared provoke them at their doorstep. Even knowing Alex's power, Coulson vowed to make him pay—even if it cost them all.

Fury turned to Coulson, recognizing the anger and unwillingness mirrored there.

When had S.H.I.E.L.D. ever been humiliated like this?

Yet Fury knew anger alone solved nothing.

He had to think clearly and find the best path forward.

Gritting his teeth, Fury ordered, "Pull the agents back. Have medics attend to the wounded outside. Let Alex Ray and his crew come inside."

His voice was heavy with reluctance and frustration, but he knew this was the only viable option.

They couldn't afford any more pointless casualties.

"Director! Are you really letting them in so easily?" Coulson's voice trembled with confusion and doubt.

He stared at Fury, searching for a logical explanation.

Fury sighed deeply. "It's an order. No more pointless deaths."

Coulson's face twisted with unwillingness and anger, but he understood his duty as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

He clenched his jaw and turned away to carry out the painful command.

Fury shared Coulson's reluctance.

If anyone wanted Alex Ray dead the most, it was Fury.

If overwhelming force could work, Fury would've thrown every agent at Alex without hesitation.

He was no saint—he'd use every tool and person at his disposal to get the job done.

But human wave tactics were pointless against someone like Alex.

Better to stop the senseless bloodshed and let Alex and his team come inside.

Fury had considered unleashing the remaining Avengers on Alex, but he knew it was unrealistic.

With Dr. Banner and Professor X gone, only the Fantastic Four remained on site.

Fury's gaze drifted toward the window, hope flickering in his chest.

He had contacted Carol Danvers, far away on Earth, urging her to return quickly.

Only a full assembly of Avengers and X-Men could bring Alex down in one decisive strike.

"Carol," he whispered to the distant stars, "come back soon. Earth needs you."
