Marvel Brodcast : Spoiling Spider-man

Chapter 472: Conversation on the Roof

[MJ stared at the 3rd generation Spider-Man from across the hotel lobby. Then the phone in Spider-Man's pants pocket rang with an urgent tone. He walked aside to a quieter corner and answered it.]

["Hello?"]

[Agent Hill's authoritative voice came through the speaker: "Parker! This is Hill! There's a pair of headphones in your battle suit. Put them on and wait for further instructions! Do you understand?"]

["Understood, Ma'am!"]

[Hill hung up the phone abruptly, and Ned quickly ran over to Spider-Man with an apologetic expression.]

["Hey! Dude!"]

["Hey!"]

["Look! I'm so sorry! I've been busy with my own romance this whole time, but I'm still the guy in the chair! I'm still your man behind the scenes!"]

[Looking at Ned's genuine concern, Spider-Man tried to console him: "It's okay! It's okay! Don't worry about it, really!"]

[Ned was visibly relieved after hearing this reassurance, "Okay! That's great! So what's the situation with that Elemental creature? Where will it appear next?"]

["Here! In this city!" Spider-Man replied with growing anxiety.]

[Ned was stunned by this revelation, "Peter! We are right here in Prague!"]

[Spider-Man knew that all of his classmates were now in immediate danger. "I know! This won't work! I'm trying to think of a solution!"]

["You have to do something! Peter! We're all counting on you!" Ned said with worry in his voice.]

["Baby!" Betty's voice called from across the lobby.]

["Yeah! Yeah! Baby!" Ned said quickly, and when Betty, who was not far away, started calling him more insistently, he immediately returned to her side with a forced smile, trying to appear normal.]

[Teacher Harrington was busy at the reception desk, arranging accommodations for the students. "The good news is that everyone gets their own room! No more sharing!"]

[The other classmates were still immersed in the joy of their luxurious accommodations, but only Spider-Man looked at them with a heavy heart. He didn't know how he could possibly protect all of them from what was coming. He was still distracted and lost in thought when he arrived at his meeting with Nick Fury.]

["Parker? Parker!!!"]

[Nick Fury's sharp shout finally brought Spider-Man back to his senses, "Yes! Sir!"]

[Nick Fury sat on a stool in the makeshift command center and looked at him with one penetrating eye, "In a few hours, the Fire Elemental will appear and attack this city! Do you think this is some kind of joke?"]

[Quentin Beck, leaning against the wall nearby, interjected: "He's not treating it like a joke! He's thinking about how you basically kidnapped him from his school trip!"]

[The hardened Nick Fury replied calmly but firmly: "He identified the problem when he called me about the Water Elemental! And I'm providing the solution!"]

[Agent Hill turned around with her hands on her hips, showing her frustration, "The local authorities still refuse to evacuate the entire city!"]

[Hearing this bureaucratic obstacle, Nick Fury cursed under his breath: "A bunch of idiots!"]

[Then he looked directly at Spider-Man and said curtly: "So tell me your plan, Parker!"]

["I'll position myself in the church tower and monitor for the Fire Elemental's arrival! As soon as it appears, I'll notify you immediately! Then Mr. Baker and I will..."]

[Quentin Beck interrupted him with a slight correction: "My name is Mysterio!"]

[Spider-Man managed a small smile, "Right! Then Mysterio and I will coordinate our attack!"]

[Mysterio's expression grew more serious as he leaned forward: "Peter! Listen to me carefully. Your best chance of winning, and frankly your only chance of winning, is to destroy it here in Prague! At all costs! Try to lead it away from populated areas! Most importantly! Never let it get close to any metal structures!"]

[Quentin Beck's grave warning made Spider-Man even more uneasy about the situation. He glanced nervously at Nick Fury and began to voice his concerns: "Hey! Look, man! All my friends are here in this city! I can't help feeling like doing this is basically pushing them right into the fire!"]

[Nick Fury's expression darkened when he heard this complaint, and he stood up abruptly and walked toward Spider-Man, his voice rising with each step: "You want to talk about putting people in danger? You yourself called in a drone strike on your own school tour bus!"]

[At the mention of this recent incident, Spider-Man immediately lowered his head in shame and guilt. He had almost caused a complete disaster. If Dimitri hadn't possessed such strong nerves and driving skills to control the bus at that critical moment, everyone on board would likely have died when it went over the cliff.]

["Stark left you an augmented reality strategic intelligence system worth billions of dollars! The most advanced defense technology on the planet! What did you do after you got it? You nearly blew up your classmates!"]

[Then Nick Fury glanced meaningfully at Agent Hill and declared: "I told him! I warned him about this!" Then he turned back to face Spider-Man directly for his final words: "You are not ready for this responsibility yet!!!"]

"He is not yet able to bear such a heavy responsibility!" The 1st generation Spider-Man shook his head gently as he watched the scene unfold.

Apparently, Tony had always limited the 3rd generation Spider-Man to dealing with activities related to combating common street-level criminals, and had deliberately not allowed him to participate in world-threatening events, such as alien invasions or global catastrophes.

There were both pros and cons to this protective approach. The advantage was that Spider-Man could easily handle ordinary criminals and even those with moderate superhuman abilities without being overwhelmed.

But the disadvantages were equally obvious. He was simply unable to adapt to the role of a leader and couldn't even properly distinguish priorities when his friends were involved, letting personal concerns cloud his judgment.

"He's not like you, Peter! Look at the people he's surrounded by - Iron Man, Thor, Captain America! They're all incredibly powerful and capable individuals, and he's always had someone to rely on and fall back on. That's exactly why when serious problems arise, his first instinct is to look for someone else to help him solve it!"

Uncle Ben understood very well why the 1st generation Spider-Man had been able to become so self-reliant and powerful. It was because he had only himself to depend on for most of his career. Although he now had allies like Gwen with the Venom symbiote and Harry, he still relied primarily on himself to solve problems when they arose.

But the 3rd generation Spider-Man was different. Whenever something went wrong, he could always call for backup or assistance. This safety net, while protective, meant he wouldn't develop the same level of independence and problem-solving skills!

[After the harsh criticism from Nick Fury, Spider-Man felt emotionally drained and depressed. He made his way up to the hotel rooftop, sitting alone on the edge while contemplating everything that had been said.]

[Quentin Beck flew up to the rooftop using his suit's capabilities, "Fury asked me to come up here to check on how you're doing. He actually feels pretty bad about losing his temper with you back there!"]

[Spider-Man looked up with surprise, "Really?"]

["You do have the concept of 'sarcasm' on Earth, right?" Beck said with a slight smile. "But seriously, how are you holding up?"]

[Spider-Man gave a bitter, self-deprecating laugh and hesitated before opening up: "Uh... I never expected that I'd have to save the world during my summer vacation! I know this sounds incredibly selfish, but... I had this whole plan to tell the girl I love how I feel about her! But now everything's completely ruined!"]

[Quentin Beck sat down beside him on the rooftop ledge, removed his distinctive helmet, and spoke in a more paternal tone: "It's not selfish at all for you to want to live a normal life, kid! This path we've chosen is full of hardships and sacrifices! You have to witness terrible things and pay prices you never imagined! There are impossible choices to make! People depend on you, look up to you, put their faith in you..."]

["But even when you win the battle, sometimes good people still die in the process. I like you, Peter! You're a genuinely good kid with a pure heart! There's a part of me that honestly wants to tell you to just turn around and walk away! Get as far from all of this as you possibly can!"]

["But there's another part of me that knows exactly what we're fighting against! What we're trying to protect! All the innocent lives at stake! And I am so grateful that you're here, ready to stand up when the world needs you!"]

[Spider-Man nodded slowly, feeling some of the weight lift from his shoulders, "Me too!"]

["But you're still worried about your friends and classmates!"]

["Yeah! I feel like I'm constantly putting them in danger just by being around them!"]]
