Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 209 Admitting Guilt (Large Chapter)

Terence Community.

The wail of sirens lit up most of the community.

Television station vans arrived as well, with a crowd of reporters gathering outside the police tape.

An injured patrol officer was lifted into an ambulance.

A sixteen-year-old girl was escorted into a police car.

The cruelty of James and his son exceeded Luke's imagination.

Since arriving in Los Angeles, this had been the most brutal fight he had experienced.

Susan led the team and arrived at the scene for support, taking over the situation.

Luke sat in the car, surveying the scene strewn with scars and filled with gunsmoke, feeling melancholic.

Tonight he had used two Accuracy Cards and two Bullet-Proof Cards, suffering a big loss.

But there was no choice, survival was crucial, and he had to use them when necessary.

Luke's wound on his left arm had also been treated with disinfectant.

It was his first time wearing a bulletproof vest, and through firsthand experience, he had gained a clearer understanding of its effectiveness.

The bulletproof vest helped Luke avoid most injuries, but not all, such as the bullet that was meant for his chest but veered off course and grazed his arm.

The second grenade explosion nearby, the vest absorbed most of the shockwave, but the blast left his ears ringing.

Basically, the bulletproof vest could help the wearer avoid major dangers and injuries, but there would still be some damage.

Of course, this wasn't entirely a bad thing. If a grenade exploded nearby and Luke acted as if nothing happened and was unharmed, it would raise suspicions.

Overall, he was quite satisfied with the effectiveness of the bulletproof vest.

Reid also rushed to the scene and showed concern for Luke, Jackson, and others, advising them to go home and rest.

Upon returning home, Luke felt physically exhausted. He had investigated a case all day and experienced a gunfight, which left both his body and mind highly strained.

However, once he relaxed, he found himself unable to sleep.

A familiar voice rang out, "Congratulations to the host, for capturing two armed assailants who attacked the police, you are rewarded with 60 lottery draws."

The reward was prompt and generous this time.

But thinking about it, it made sense given how dangerous the night had been. It would be problematic if the reward wasn't generous.

Especially that gunman who was firing an AK47 with precision, shooting down from the second floor, making it impossible for several policemen to raise their heads.

If Luke hadn't worn the bulletproof vest and hadn't been shaken by the grenade, allowing him to shoot and kill him in time, the man might have driven away, causing more chaos.

Thinking about this, Luke suddenly felt a sense of crisis.

The two Bullet-Proof Cards had been used up. If he encountered similar dangers again, he would truly have to fight for his life.

Time for the draw, hoping to get a bulletproof vest to feel more secure.

Lottery draw!

The pointer stopped at... criminal sketching card...

After 60 draws, he won two Criminal Sketching Cards (new card).

He also won two Accuracy Cards, one Detection Card, and one Adventure Card.

$54,000.

Luke felt a bit dejected for not drawing any Bullet-Proof Cards.

Feeling insecure.

His heart was not at peace.

But on the bright side, he got a new Function Card.

Criminal Sketching Card [Can sketch a suspect's face based on eyewitness descriptions.]

The police department also has criminal sketch artists.

But requesting an artist to draw takes time, and their work process is slow. By the time they finish sketching the suspect's face, the opportunity for arrest might already be missed.

Luke learned the skill of criminal sketching, allowing him to sketch the suspect's face immediately and apprehend them in time.

Do not underestimate this time difference; it could determine the direction of a case.

For instance, if catching a serial killer, and the killer had already killed two people, Luke could sketch the suspect's appearance based on eyewitness descriptions right away and capture them immediately.

If Luke couldn't perform criminal sketches himself, he'd have to follow procedures and request a professional artist.

By the time the artist finished sketching the suspect, the suspect might have already fled and even committed a third or fourth murder.

Basically, field investigation, on-site drawing, on-site arrests all depend on speed.

Now that Luke had learned the skill of criminal sketchings, would he still need the experts?

Definitely, yes.

If a wanted poster is needed and there's no photo of the suspect, they would still need to request a sketch artist.

Luke's criminal sketching was more of an auxiliary in investigations and didn't have legal authority. Why?

Because he wasn't an expert.

Though the functionality seems similar, the differences are significant, and there's no conflict.

Thinking all this over, Luke fell into a drowsy sleep.

...

The next morning, Luke made a pot of Dragon Well tea.

Having just woken up and feeling dehydrated, Luke still preferred tea over coffee.

After hydrating sufficiently and having breakfast, then and only then would Luke drink coffee, as he didn't like to drink coffee on an empty stomach.

Luke had been a tea drinker in his past life, and though he had stopped for various reasons after coming to Los Angeles, he had started again and grown fond of it anew.

Steeping a pot of tea, he sat quietly alone and let his mind wander.

After sitting for a good half hour and drinking two pots of tea, he felt hungry.

Luke strolled to a small diner in the square for breakfast.

He planned to heed Reid's advice and take a day off from the police station.

Luke had used his gun before and had injured people, but the level of danger had never compared to this time.

He wanted to adjust his state and rest for a day or two.

After resting all morning, he began to study criminal sketches in the afternoon.

Luke had some basic sketching skills from his past life. Coupled with the enhancements of the Criminal Sketching Card and some online resources, he learned quickly.

...

Luke rested at home for two days and only returned to his detective job on July 3rd.

Not just Luke, but Jackson, Jenny, and another person named Black had also taken time off to rest at home.
