Chapter 209 Admitting Guilt (Large Chapter)_2
Although most of the squadron members were on leave, the investigation into the case was not greatly affected.
The middle-aged man holding an AK47 was suspect Dominic's father; he had been killed on the spot.
Dominic was shot three times and had been receiving treatment in the hospital for the past two days.
The police were unable to obtain Dominic's testimony, so the investigation of the case had little progress.
Having heard that Luke and the others had returned to the squad, Reid came to visit everyone at the squadron once again.
"Hey, guys, how's your recovery going? Do you need psychological counseling?"
"No, I don't need it," Little Black shook his head, the epitome of a tough guy.
Reid asked, "What about you, Luke?"
"Thanks, I don't need it for now."
"And Jenny, Jackson, what about you two?"
Jenny hesitated for a moment, "Well, if there's time, I really would like to talk to a psychiatrist."
"Good, I'll help you contact a good psychiatrist."
Jackson seemed slightly embarrassed, "Me too."
Reid said, "Hey, there's nothing to be embarrassed about, everything has a process of adaptation, most cops have been through psychological counseling, me included."
"Luke, Marcus, if you two change your minds, you can contact me privately," Reid left that remark and left the office.
Little Black shrugged, "He still doesn't understand me."
"Guys, welcome back," Susan showed a rare smile,
"Raymond, why don't you brief us on the progress of the case." As soon as she finished speaking, Susan waved her hand, "Never mind, I'll do it.
The technical department has come up with new forensic results: the gun used by the murderer in the June 30th Santa Monica beach car-sex robbery-murder case is not the same gun used by the killer in the Kabool Mountain robbery-murder case.
"Additionally, we took statements from two other friends of Dominic, who can all testify they were with Dominic from nine to eleven o'clock on the night of June 28th; he didn't have the opportunity to commit the crime.
Plus, as Dominic was a witness to the Kabool Mountain car-sex murder case on June 28th, we suspect he might have been copying the crime.
Furthermore, we've taken a statement from Dominic's sister, Anna James. She denies having any connection with the case and being an informant. The current evidence can't prove her involvement; she has been released."
Little Black said, "Why release her? That woman opened the window of the house, allowing the gunman to throw the grenade at us. If the shooter had tried to open the window himself, we might have killed him already.
From this point of view, she should be considered an accomplice."
Susan said, "Regarding that, we've also asked her. According to her own statement, she opened the window under the coercion of her father, who might have killed her if she didn't comply.
Moreover, she claims not to know why her father wanted the window open and didn't have the subjective intention to harm anyone.
And now her father is dead, so there's no way to verify her claims; we had to let her go."
Luke asked, "How is Dominic James doing?"
Vincent, the deputy squad leader, said, "He was out of danger yesterday.
This morning the hospital will do another comprehensive check-up on Dominic. If there's no issue and all his vital signs are stable, we can take his statement this afternoon."
Speaking of Dominic, Little Black couldn't help but remark, "That father and son are truly crazy, shooting without saying a word, just like lunatics."
The deputy said, "According to our in-depth investigation, Dominic's father had joined a white supremacy gang in his early years and a large number of firearms and ammunition were found in a compartment of his house.
My guess is, he might have been involved in other violent crimes as well; he's definitely a dangerous character."
Little Black said, "I hate these guys, all of them are complete psychopaths.
I have no doubts that under certain circumstances, they would take joy in slaughtering black people."
"Exactly, I don't like these people either, their ideas are quite extreme.
The good news is that once Dominic is convicted, it'll be enough to keep him in prison for life.
He'll never think about killing anyone again." The deputy squad leader added, "My recommendation for this dangerous individual is to charge him with serious offences and not offer any plea deal."
Luke also agreed with the deputy squad leader's suggestion; he didn't want Dominic to ever walk out of prison alive again.
...
Venice Hospital.
In room 405.
A sixteen or seventeen-year-old boy lay on the bed, his gaze dull, quietly staring at the ceiling.
He was wrapped in thick bandages, his right shoulder, left arm, and left leg had all been shot, losing a great deal of blood, making his body weak and his face pale, but his eyes still revealed a hint of ferocity.
"Creak..." The door opened.
Two men walked into the room from outside the ward; leading was a black man, followed by a dark-haired young man.
The black man smiled and said, "Hi, Dominic, I hear you're recovering pretty well.
We've met before, but I still have to formally introduce myself." The black man pointed to himself, "This is Deputy Marcus, and beside me, is Detective Luke."
Luke did not correct him, considering various circumstances, it was best to let Little Black take the lead in this interrogation.
Dominic glanced at Luke, then turned his gaze to Little Black, "I hate niggers, are you guys short on people at the police station?"
Little Black wasn't angry; he retorted, "Then tell me who you like, I'll get them to take your statement."
"No, I don't like any of you; all you cops deserve to die, black cops even more so."
