Chapter 208: Out of Control
It was after eight in the evening, and the sky had already darkened.
Terence Community.
Two cars pulled up near the gate of a white villa.
Luke peered through the car window but didn't spot Dominic.
A group of people got out of the car, and Luke began arranging the scene, considering that Dominic was likely the suspect and preparing for his possible escape.
It was still him and Xiao Hei knocking on the door, while Jenny and Jackson watched the back door of the villa.
Meanwhile, they also called for a patrol officer nearby for support.
After everything was ready, Xiao Hei walked up to the door and knocked.
"Thump thump."
After a while, the door opened, and a 16 or 17-year-old Caucasian girl stood in the doorway.
The girl had freckles on her face, slender limbs, and a slightly protruding belly.
Xiao Hei asked, "Hi, is this Dominic James's house?"
"Yes, what do you want?"
"Is Dominic James home?"
"Who are you? Why do you want him?"
"LAPD."
The girl, with an exaggerated tone, loudly said, "Wow, you guys are LAPD, why are you looking for Dominic James?"
"We are investigating a case and want to ask him a few questions."
"Sorry, Dominic is not at home."
"Do you know where he has gone?"
"He's probably out messing around with his gang of friends again, you should ask those bad influences, not me.
If there's nothing else, please leave."
"Bang!" The girl slammed the door shut.
Luke and Xiao Hei stood awkwardly at the front door.
They walked out of the yard, and Xiao Hei asked, "What should we do now?"
"Let's leave for now." Afterward, the group got in the car and left Dominic's house.
A few minutes later, the back door of Dominic's house opened, and a young man sneaked out.
The young man was distinctively dressed, with a crew cut, no eyebrows, and wore a green T-shirt.
"Hey, Dominic James!"
A blue sedan was parked across the street, and two people walked out from behind the car—it was Luke and Xiao Hei.
Xiao Hei said with a smile, "We are LAPD, we'd like to ask you a few questions..."
Dominic slowly turned around with a smile and pulled out a pistol from his pocket, firing directly, "Bang..."
Luke and Xiao Hei were always alert, and upon seeing his suspicious movement, they instinctively drew their pistols as well.
Both sides fired at almost the exact same time.
Gunfire erupted.
Sparks flashed through the night.
Xiao Hei cursed, "Fuck!
We hadn't even started talking, and this asshole started shooting.
Some of these white extremists are just savage, not human at all."
Dominic rolled on the ground and took cover behind the back door.
Luke and Xiao Hei used the blue car as a cover.
Luke peeped around.
Dominic fired back directly, "Bang bang."
Luke said to Xiao Hei nearby, "You take cover on the other side of the car, no need to aim, just fire to draw his attention, be careful."
"What do you mean no need to aim? You have that little faith in my shooting? My shooting is great," Xiao Hei retorted, "You worry about yourself."
Xiao Hei moved to the other side of the car.
As soon as he showed his head, the opponent fired, and a bullet whizzed past overhead, scaring him into a cold sweat.
Dominic might be young, but he was a skilled shooter.
Now, Xiao Hei dared not show himself again and only reached out his hand to shoot blindly.
While Xiao Hei drew his attention, Luke peeked from the other side of the car, aiming at where Dominic might show his head.
As soon as Dominic showed himself, he would fire directly.
"Bang!"
Dominic showed himself.
Luke used the Accuracy Card and fired directly.
"Ah!"
Dominic cried out in pain, hit by a bullet in the shoulder, and hurriedly ducked behind the back door.
Just then, Jenny and Jackson also arrived for support, approaching Dominic from the other side of the house.
After being injured, Dominic tried to escape but was blocked by the two.
"LAPD, don't move, drop your gun, or we will shoot!"
Dominic showed an angry expression, but his injured shoulder and dangling right arm left him unable to shoot.
With no other option, Dominic James dropped his gun on the ground.
Jackson shouted, "Kneel on the ground, hands on your head, don't move."
Dominic cursed, "Fuck you!
I'm injured, I can't put my hands on my head!"
"Take it easy, no sudden moves," Jenny cautioned with her gun ready.
Jackson stepped forward to handcuff the subject.
Luke and Xiao Hei also approached with their guns, surrounding Dominic.
"Creak..."
A window on the second floor suddenly opened.
Luke looked up and saw, through the moonlight, a middle-aged Caucasian man standing by the window, resembling Dominic in appearance, holding an AK47,
"There's a gunman upstairs!" Luke shouted while firing upward.
"Thump thump..."
The middle-aged man holding the AK47 fired a burst at the police.
"Damn cop, how dare you hurt my son, you all can go to hell!"
Luke and others returned fire while retreating to find cover.
Catching the suspect was important, but staying alive was even more critical.
The middle-aged man with the AK47 continued to fire from upstairs, creating suppressive fire.
Perhaps because of injuring Dominic, Luke became a primary target.
He was skilled with a gun, yet he had no time to aim.
Moreover, with the dim light, hitting the target was not easy.
Suddenly, Luke felt a bullet aimed at his chest, his pupils dilated with a look of terror.
Just when he thought he was going to be hit, the bullet veered off course, passing between his chest and arm.
Luke felt a sharp pain in his left arm.
Without checking the injury, he rolled and crawled to take cover behind another building.
Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief and looked down to inspect his wound.
The sleeve of his shirt was punctured, and the inside of his arm was grazed by the bullet, but it was not serious.
Only then did Luke truly relax.
[Bullet-Proof Card activated, duration three minutes.]
No wonder the bullet aimed at his chest deviated, it was the effect of the Bullet-Proof Card.
Luke couldn't help but feel a surge of relief, if it weren't for the Bullet-Proof Card, he might have been shot in the chest, specifically the left chest, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
His heart also could not help but harden with resolve, 'You're as good as dead.'
Blackie rolled and crawled over, "Luke, are you okay? Did the bullet hit you?"
"I'm fine." Luke showed him his left arm, "This bastard's shooting skills are very impressive. I checked just now; he still has spare magazines. He came well-prepared."
Blackie asked back, "So what do we do now?"
Luke leaned against the building, "Trap him in the house, await reinforcement."
As the team leader, Luke's task was not only to capture the suspect but more importantly to ensure his teammates' safety.
As for capturing, there was no rush, the local patrol officers would arrive soon after hearing the gunfire.
Los Angeles is LAPD's home ground.
The longer it took, the greater the advantage to the police.
As long as the suspect couldn't escape the house before the reinforcements arrived, he'd have no chance of running again.
Luke took out his walkie-talkie, "Jenny, Jackson, how are you guys doing?"
"All good."
"Good, stay alert, the gunman might attack again."
"Roger that."
At that moment, two police cars drove into the community and stopped not far from Dominic's house.
Four patrol officers alighted from the two cars, weapons at the ready.
"Creak…"
A window on the first floor was opened by a teenage girl.
Soon, all the windows on the first and second floors were open.
Just as Luke was puzzled by the actions, two grenades were thrown out of the windows.
"Grenade, watch out!" At the same time as Luke shouted, he dove to the other side.
As his words fell,
"Boom, boom, boom..."
A series of explosions thundered incessantly.
Unable to tell from which window the grenades came, Luke lay on the ground, the roaring in his ears unceasing.
He felt at least four grenades land near him. The second Bullet-Proof Card was activated, protecting him from severe harm. Only his ears rang temporarily from the blast.
The more critical the moment, the less Luke dared to relax, as he was fully aware that the gunman's fierce attack was in preparation for an escape.
If he didn't escape now, the surrounding police force would only grow, and he'd no longer have any chance to flee.
"Ah!" A scream arose not far away.
Luke looked towards the sound. A police car had been blown away, injuring a patrol officer.
"Click"
A middle-aged Caucasian man jumped out from a ground-floor window, holding an AK47, with an M4 slung over his back, and his waist loaded with magazines and grenades.
The middle-aged Caucasian man ran towards his own car, Dominic also got up from the ground and ran towards the car.
If these two escaped, the capture mission would be completely failed, and Luke would also bear some responsibility.
Luke couldn't let them leave. The effective time of the Bullet-Proof Card hadn't expired yet, granting him an additional layer of protection.
Just as the gunman opened the car door, Luke suddenly stood and opened fire.
The gunman, on high alert, revealed a look of surprise and disbelief.
Having just thrown several grenades at Luke, even if they didn't kill him, they should have disoriented him enough to lose combat ability for a while. This assured him in attempting an escape with his son.
He hadn't expected Luke to have such resilient combat capabilities.
"Bang!"
With no other thoughts in his mind, Luke used the second Accuracy Card and opened fire.
The gunman was skilled, immediately countering with his AK47.
However, Luke had prepared in advance this time, firing even faster.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Luke fired off the remainder of his bullets, emptying his magazine.
The gunman was hit in the chest. Instinctively trying to return fire, the pain in his chest prevented him from aiming properly, his right finger pulling the trigger.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Though the gunfire was heavy and the bullets flew all over, they lacked accuracy and did not hit Luke.
After an exchange of fire, the gunman collapsed on the ground, shot multiple times, bleeding profusely.
"Dad, No!" Dominic roared, left hand grabbing the gun to return fire.
Blackie and Jackson stepped out, nearly simultaneously firing at him.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Dominic was hit in the arm and thigh, collapsing to the ground, unable to pick up the gun again.
The gunfire finally ceased.
Only the moans could be heard.
The wailing of the suspect Dominic.
As well as the voices of injured officers.
"Bang!" The door of the house was pushed open, and the teenage girl walked out.
Luke and his men instinctively raised their guns in alert.
"LAPD, raise your hands."
The girl, undaunted by the police, walked to the side of the middle-aged man, embracing his body and crying loudly, "You damn cops, are you planning to kill me too?
I'm pregnant, I have a baby in my belly.
I have no weapons. If you dare, shoot me!
Shoot! Kill me along with them!"
