Chapter 106: Lightning Threads
A small branch in the countless thick branches of the Great Storm Tree was lit up brightly as if the moon itself has descended there.
However, if one looked closer, they would only see tens of thick silver bolts of lightning hovering in air all around Kael, as if waiting for his command.
But the more he added, the more reckless and out of control they became. It seemed nearly impossible to control them as they had even began to vibrate.
Yet, Kael persisted and continued to make even more.
He only stopped when he felt threat from his own creations. His eyes snapped open and he didn't think before the performing the same action he did before.
Jumping on his feet, he waved his hand as all the lightning zoomed past at him at incredible speed. Before he could even blink, they were absorbed by the damned tree as if they never existed at all.
It frustrated him a little as he wanted to see just now much destruction his attacks could bring, but he was bound to get disappointed if continued to use the Great Storm Tree as his target. Yet, he couldn't even change his target.
He shook his head at his nonsensical thoughts and muttered to himself, "The Lightning Ball can do more damage if it's focused on a single enemy whole the Spears are mostly useful as a AOE skill."
It was a good thing actually because it meant he now had a good ranged skill. He wondered why he didn't use this in his fight with the Ghast.
[Because you were too weak to bring your Affinity's true potential out. I highly doubt you could have summoned so many spears without losing consciousness.]
"That's true. I have a massive Mana Pool and even such good affinity but my Soul and body is too weak so I can't even bring out of their true potential out." Kael groaned in frustration.
[Isn't that basically the problem of most prodigy?]
Kael rolled his eyes at his companion and ignored her. He tapped on the thick branch beneath his feet and grinned.
In the next second, lightning began to crackle below his knees. This time, it wasn't just hovering around but also passing through his flesh and bones.
It left a giddy feeling, but Kael ignored it. He simply wanted to test something. He could coat his body in the [Lightning Mantel] which increased his speed but also put strain on his soul and body. Even if it was very little now.
The way the skill worked gave an idea.
He jumped a little with that strange feeling in his legs. Then, he dashed to his right where thick branch extended to a great length.
He expected a lot of things, but all of them went out of his mind as his vision blurred for a moment and he was already hundred metres away from his original position.
A smile formed on his lips as he began to test his theory by running around and then fusing the lightning in his arms and other parts of the body.
'Fuck yeah! It works!'
[Intresting way to use your body to your advantage, Master.]
'Huh? What do you mean?'
[....you didn't even think before experimenting right?]
Kael frowned in confusion and said, "Just tell me already."
[It pus your Physical Body in danger, but you have the Draconic Physique which not only gives you Dragon body which is already a bit too much but even regeneration of Legendary Tier Dragons. So, only people like you can pull this off so easily.]
Kael raised an eyebrow, but he did find the explanation quite reasonable. He was just too excited to see it work that he didn't even bother thinking about the consequences.
Well, his senses also didn't alert him so he didn't think it would be dangerous...which it wasn't so his senses were still right.
His theory was actually quite simple and it was that if one fused Elements in their body, their bodies would display certain kind of effects.
For example, fusing lightning seemed to have given him high movement speed which also meant that he could run faster and also punch faster.
After all, movement means any kind of movement from the body and it all depended where one had fused the element with.
Of course, there were consequences for that. What he was doing was practically a sucide for obvious reasons.
Elements or rather their source belonged to the Astral World and their Ether bodies belonged to the Physical World and how could anything from the Physical World accomodate anything from the Astral World?
There was a reason the pathways through which mana flowed were metaphysical. It was because a direct encounter with the energy from the Astral World would have left their Ether Body destroyed.
But it was also true that only through hardships and destruction true strength could be forged.
The Ether body was the same.
With long, continuous exposure to the Mana in limited manner, it strengthened the Ether body. Being in contact with the energy destroyed their Ether bodies, but the amount was so small that ever the destruction was small and quickly healed by it.
This was why everyone would have a powerful Ether body at higher ranks even if they didn't focus much in it.
Now, just excessive mana was enough to cause this reaction then what about Elements who existed at a whole different level than mana?
Any sane person would think there times before doing something as reckless as what Kael did, because he was only saved by his ridiculous physique he got from his evolution.
He smiled thinking that he had yet another addition to his arsenal of power. This would help him a lot in battles, but he also needed to be careful of it.
Even if he had the Dragon Physique, if he went overboard, he would most likely get his body destroyed and might even injure their soul.
After all, both were connected deeply so if one was harmed, how could other remain safe?
'Elements are more interesting than I thought.' Kael smiled.
[Only because you have high Affinity.]
'Why do I feel like you're annoyed at something?'
[...]
Kael once again rolled his eyes at his assistant who seemed to be getting more and more humane by everyday.
Then, he came back his spot and aat down to think about his best task.
"I have already tried it's max limit in a way and even did an experiment. I should focus more on precise control now."
Both Ligtning bolts and Lightning Ball weren't really that hard to control compared to having precise control over the elements.
Being perfect in Mana control had taught him how useful precise control over anything was so he wanted to do the same with element.
He wondered what should he try to practice Precise Control when the image of certain guy named John Smith flashed in his mind.
'Ah! Why did forget about such a cool ability,' Kael smirked and began his work.
Since his focus was on control rather than destruction power of his new invention, Kael didn't do anything excessive.
He summoned only one silver bolt of lightning which was two metres long with blinding light.
He closed his eyes and focused on that single lightning bolt, sensing it and feeling it. Then, he began to shape it which proved to harder than he had thought.
Still, he slowly but surely began to turn that single bolt of lightning into multiple threads of Silver Lightning. They didn't hold the true intensity which would cause destruction.
They were just tiny threads made entirely from lightning and were under his control. L!ov*e$ this s$to+r@y?# S&h%o^w$ suppor.t. at M@V$2^LE&M$PY*R.
'Interesting!' Kael thought. 'Lets test their powers.'
As soon as he stood up, the threads in his hand which was transformed into claws lost control and dispersed in the air.
Kael tried to keep them stable, but a momentary disturbance poured cold water on his efforts.
He sighed and once again sat down, 'Whatever! This time you aren't going anywhere.'
With that, he began to form the lightning threads again and tried moving around. But the results didn't improve much. The threads were fragile and small, needing very precise control to keep them in control.
If it was just keeping them in place, Kael was confident and had even succeeded in all attempts. But as soon as he decided to move around with those threads, it caused a momentary lose of focus.
After a few times, he stopped and began to think where he was going wrong, 'Hmm, technically there are two main components here. First is my concentration and second is Mana.'
When he stood up, a part of his brain would try to focus on his surroundings which left the threads vulnerable. So he had tried to use [Beast Sense] to keep a check on his surroundings while he kept his eyes closed and focused completely on the threads.
Sadly, that didn't work either meaning the problem lied within his mana circulation system.
