Chapter 228: A world without people
"We are leaving." Kaelen told the guards and left the Library through the exit that only the residents of the core region could use.
Elias, on the other hand, used the Dimensional Gate, having no access to the Core Region. He returned to his residence, this time accompanied by Astralious.
"I didn't think you could achieve this successfully. Not bad, young man." Astralious followed Elias, filled with elation.
He had been a little worried about the feasibility of this plan, but seeing it succeed to such an extent, he felt relieved.
Not only did Elias leave a second source in the Academy which could bring him back to life if anything went wrong, but he had also received many benefits from Freya that he could never have received otherwise.
With the benefits that he had received, his strength had taken another big leap. Not only did his stats increase, but even his abilities had grown stronger.
Just on stats alone, he was comparable to the strongest fables that he had seen in the land of fables, if not stronger. Even if he didn't use his abilities, he could still win if faced with them.
"Even I didn't expect everything to go this well." Elias was also honest with Astralious. Throughout these days, he was constantly worried about getting caught, as he was trying to fool the strongest person in the academy.
Fortunately, everything went better than he expected. His soul was blessed by the flames of a mythical beast.
Even if his souls were fragmented, an ordinary supreme being couldn't see anything wrong with his soul unless they went above and beyond to test him.
"You even managed to steal some Souls of Judgement from the Awakening Arena. I really look forward to how you're going to put them to use."
"Not anything soon at least," Elias answered. Even though he had robbed these souls of judgement, he didn't know how to actually put them to their best use.
He thought that they could be used to give intelligence to some of his creations, and the ability to make judgements, but that was only his guess so far and he hadn't performed any testing.
"If anything goes well, then they would come really useful while creating our little utopia," he said, arriving at his residence.
He didn't enter through the door, and instead jumped straight to the roof. The barrier around the residence, which had been strengthened by the academy to protect him, didn't repel him.
He soon landed on the roof, and sat back on his chair. From this point onwards, he could overlook the entire Residential Area.
He could feel the presence of the academy's hounds keeping an eye on him, but he let them be, pretending as if he couldn't really see them.
He continued his conversation with Astralious, using his thoughts.
Astralious nodded in satisfaction, appearing next to Elias.
"You know, I initially thought that it was a childish delusion for you to think that you could create a ruined world into something that could outlast an upper realm. But if it's you, I think it might really be possible to bring that world back to life."
"When we create a good enough place, we might be able to transfer some population from another world. Earth won't appear as empty as ever. It will finally start looking like a world filled with life."
As he talked, he kept imagining a world that had truly surpassed the upper world, having a place like the Dimensional Academy to train their own forces for the next generation.
Elias heard the suggestions that came from Astralious. He didn't say anything. His reactions remained unchanging, but even he could see what kind of world Astralious wanted to create.
It was an identical replica of the world that previously treated Astralious like a god, only to be eventually destroyed. It was only because he tried to save that world, that he had to die in the end.
Astralious was trying to create a happy world that he could actually protect this time, one that was filled with happiness and laughter.
It was what Astralious wanted. But did he want the same thing? Elias wasn't certain.
Deep down, he had also considered the possibility of creating another earth, that was filled with people, like earth used to be. If he ruled that world well, he could ensure that humans didn't fight amongst themselves, and that there were no fractions like kingdoms or nations that could lead to wars.
If he truly created a world, he would have that world only have a single empire, that was easy to control and protect. As far as land existed, it was going to be the land of his empire.
He didn't want to be a dictator, or a ruler that controlled the lives of millions with a single command. If he did achieve that goal, he already would've become extremely strong. Would he really be greedy to a mere empire?
He knew that these were some tough steps that needed to be taken to ensure that his empire could outlast even the upper realm with no internal strife.
When he was lost in such thoughts, he even felt like laughing at himself. He hadn't even created a single brick on earth, yet he was already imagining an immortal empire, where earth once existed.
He knew that if he truly achieved his plan, then no matter how many good things he did, he was eventually going to be known as a dictator. He had already seen how many foolish things humans had done on earth.
If there was no apocalypse, even then it was only a matter of time before humanity would have perished.
It would be only a matter of time before the upper realm would try to destroy them. And if they failed, would they going to stop? No, they were going to use manipulation to make the Empire implode from within.
Even if they couldn't offer anything to the humans, they could still use the human greed for power to make them rise against him.
He hadn't even created an empire yet. Still, he could already predict that no matter what he did, things were going to get worse as years passed to him.
The previous population of earth had already been annihilated. If he brought people from other worlds, then they were definitely going to be grateful to him. But were they going to be loyal to him for an eternity?
The creation of an empire that could outlast the upper realm wasn't an easy task. That was why no empire on earth had lasted until the end. If he wasn't careful, the earth might suffer even a world's fate, because of him.
Was there a way to control human stupidity? He could instill fear in them, but that could only take him so far before things become worse. He could be a kind ruler that kept everyone happy, but it was also impossible.
Even if he treated them all well, giving them the best life that they could ever have, the eventual fate was going to be the same. There were also many such examples throughout history.
If he wanted an eternal utopia, then relying completely on humans, or any other living species was only a fool's errand.
There was only one thing that couldn't betray him, and it was the things that he created on his own. The Creator's Control skill made it impossible for his creation to betray him.
Was it really necessary to rely on humans for his empire? Or could he create an utopia without humans at all? He was the only living person that belonged to earth.
It was his home, and his last connection to his previous life, even if it was a false memory implanted within him by someone.
"There's no need to bring anyone else," he mumbled, after thinking for a long time.
"What do you mean?"
"I said there is no need to bring anyone. That place will not need any external help. I will complete everything myself."
"Even if you can create a city, or a number of cities on earth, won't they still need people to fill them?"
"Who says that cities need people? Even if it needs people, it will have three people. It will have me, you, and Lycorice." He mumbled. He didn't know why, but he couldn't get himself to rely on any other person yet.
"Don't tell me you want to create ghost cities? What's the fun in that?"
"I'm not doing this for fun. I will recreate earth, into a place that would never have internal strife. A place that only belongs to us, at least until we are strong enough to resist all external threats."
"How can we resist external threats without anyone else to help us? Isn't there a saying that there is power in numbers?"
"Not when the numbers can work against us. As I said, I will be the only one controlling earth until not even the upper realm can hurt us."
"And what after that? What if we are strong enough to the point that the upper realm won't dare to attack us?"
"Then we can think about creating branch worlds. We don't have to open ourselves, but we can still create places to foster life. That way, even if they become traitors, they can't hurt our core."
"You are talking about conquering the universe and spreading your empire already? And all that, without having a single citizen in your main Empire?"
Astralious's jaws almost dropped at the plan that he had heard. Was this even possible? At least he didn't think so. For him, it felt like a fool's errand.
