Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Third Generation's Purpose Is Shocking! Morkel Is Amazing!
There were originally only two bells, but the rest were created by Morkel using the Clone Technique.
The principle was similar to the Shuriken Clone Jutsu, making the execution relatively simple.
Kakashi was stunned.
Where did this kid get so many bells?!
Did he know the exam content in advance and prepare for it?!
Did someone leak the test details to him?!
Naruto and Sasuke, who were watching from the side, were equally shocked.
"I didn't see Morkel holding any bells when we left the house this morning," Naruto muttered, scratching his head in confusion.
Morkel turned to Kakashi. "Teacher, you said that one bell represents a spot for passing the assessment. Now that all three of us have bells, we should have passed, right?"
Kakashi knew he couldn't back out now.
What a little rascal!
He had intentionally emphasized the rule earlier, and now Morkel was using it to corner him!
With a forced smile, Kakashi nodded. "Yes, you did."
He realized that once he acknowledged this, it meant Morkel and the others had successfully passed the test.
Originally, the bell test was meant to assess teamwork and whether they would care about their companions in the face of failure. Although Morkel's strategy deviated from the original plan, his actions still demonstrated his dedication to teamwork.
With Morkel in this group, Kakashi was certain they would never abandon a teammate.
Kakashi let out a sigh. "Alright, Team 7 has passed the test. Starting tomorrow, you'll be taking on missions assigned by the village."
---
Half a Month Later…
The three members of Team 7 were hidden in the woods, waiting like hunters for their prey to take the bait.
"Morkel has successfully arrived at Point A and is ready to begin the capture mission."
"Sasuke has successfully arrived at Point C and is also ready."
"Naruto has not yet reached Point B. Please wait a moment…"
Morkel sighed. "Naruto, you're always half a step behind."
Sasuke nodded in agreement. "If you don't hurry, the target will escape."
"I'm almost there!" Naruto panted, sweating profusely as he tried to catch up.
Kakashi, observing from a distance, spoke up. "We can't wait any longer. The mission must proceed smoothly regardless of personal setbacks."
Morkel nodded. "Alright, Sasuke and I will handle it. With proper teamwork, this should be an easy catch."
"Agreed," Sasuke said, his eyes focused.
Kakashi glanced at the target and signaled. "Alright! Begin!"
"Yahh!"
Morkel and Sasuke leaped from the bushes, lunging at a small animal scurrying through the forest.
Sensing danger, the creature dodged swiftly to the side.
Morkel immediately pulled out a shuriken.
"Whoosh!"
The shuriken flew through the air, splitting into multiple copies!
"Clang! Clang! Clang!"
The cloned shurikens fell, cutting off the creature's escape route!
Taking advantage of the moment, Sasuke dashed in, grabbed the animal by its back, and pinned it to the ground!
The creature let out a pitiful cry. "Meow~"
That's right—their highly anticipated "prey" was just a harmless little cat.
Kakashi stepped forward to verify. "Confirm the identity first."
Morkel bent down to inspect. "It has a bow on its ear. This is the cat we were looking for!"
Kakashi nodded. "Great job! That's the second mission completed today. Everything is going smoothly."
He then gestured for them to report the mission.
Morkel picked up the cat, and the team made their way back to the village.
---
Today was Morkel's second day as a Genin and his first experience with official missions.
Since they were still new to ninja life, Team 7 was only assigned simple tasks—things like babysitting, retrieving lost pets, and doing farm work.
The Konoha mission system was structured by rank:
A-Rank Missions: High-risk, involving village security, guarding VIPs, and assassinations. Only elite Jonin handled these.
B-Rank Missions: Medium-risk, including espionage and protection duties. Typically handled by Chunin and Jonin.
C-Rank Missions: Low-risk but involved some combat, such as escorting civilians or capturing wild animals. Often assigned to Genin with guidance.
D-Rank Missions: No combat involved. Tasks included farming, childcare, or pet retrieval. These were designated for fresh Genin.
Since Team 7 had just started, they were only eligible for D-Rank missions.
A far cry from the exciting ninja life one might imagine, these tasks were more about household chores than thrilling battles.
Despite this, Morkel approached each mission with diligence and patience. He understood that while these tasks were simple, they built discipline and responsibility. There would come a day when they'd face real dangers, and he knew preparation was key.
Naruto, however, wasn't as patient.
After yet another "find the lost pet" mission, Team 7 returned to the Hokage's office to report their success.
The moment Naruto stepped inside, he blurted out, "Old man Third Hokage, I've been a ninja for half a month! Why are we stuck doing chores every day?!"
"A ninja should be fighting and going on exciting missions, not wasting time on errands!"
The Third Hokage calmly placed his documents down and regarded Naruto with a wise smile. "Naruto, you've only been a ninja for half a month. Don't rush ahead of yourself."
He gestured towards Morkel and Sasuke. "Look at your teammates—they aren't complaining."
As he spoke, he observed Morkel closely, his opinion of the boy rising significantly.
Morkel wasn't just intelligent with strong learning abilities—he was also hardworking and disciplined.
He was truly an incredible young ninja.
