Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Counterattack! Kakashi's Test!

Morkel, like Naruto, was once at the bottom of the class.

But according to the information Kakashi had gathered, Morkel was the top scorer in the Ninja School graduation exam. He had gone from last place to first, an achievement so surprising that even the Third Hokage had personally informed Kakashi to keep an eye on him.

The more Kakashi thought about it, the more curious he became about the red-haired boy.

After a brief silence, Kakashi addressed his new students. "I will be your teacher from now on," he said casually. "However, to officially become Genin, you must pass my test."

"Another test?!" Naruto groaned. "What kind of test is it this time?"

"There's no specific scope," Kakashi replied nonchalantly. "Just be at the outdoor training ground tomorrow morning at 5 a.m.… And don't eat breakfast."

Morkel's eyes narrowed slightly at Kakashi's instructions.

They had finally graduated from the Academy, and now their Jōnin instructor was implying they could still be sent back? Something felt off. The lack of details made it impossible to prepare properly.

Kakashi pulled a small orange book from his pocket and flipped it open. "That's all for now. Everything else will be determined tomorrow." Then, as if as an afterthought, he added, "Oh, and no one has ever passed my test before."

---

The next morning at 5 a.m., Morkel, Naruto, and Sasuke arrived at the training ground as instructed, their stomachs growling from skipping breakfast.

"I'm starving…" Naruto whined, clutching his belly. "Where's Kakashi-sensei?"

"He's late," Morkel muttered, crossing his arms. "Typical."

Just as Naruto was about to sit down in frustration, Morkel grabbed his sleeve. "Wait. He's here."

Naruto looked up just as Kakashi finally appeared, walking toward them lazily.

"Sensei! You told us to be here at five, and you show up late?!" Naruto protested angrily.

Morkel raised an eyebrow. "Did you oversleep?"

Kakashi, clearly flustered for a moment, quickly regained his composure. "Patience is part of the test," he said vaguely. "Now, let's get started."

He pulled out two small bells from his pocket. "Your test is simple," he explained. "You must take one of these bells from me before noon. If you succeed, you pass and get lunch. If you fail, you'll be tied to a tree stump and won't eat at all."

Morkel immediately caught something unusual. "There are only two bells," he pointed out. "But there are three of us."

"Correct," Kakashi confirmed. "Which means at least one of you will fail."

"What?!" Naruto exploded. "That's not fair!"

Sasuke, arms crossed, scowled. This was clearly an elimination test.

Kakashi ignored their complaints, flipping another page in his book. "Okay, enough whining. Let's begin."

---

Naruto, unable to contain his impatience, was the first to charge in.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

Several Naruto clones rushed at Kakashi from all sides.

Kakashi didn't even look up from his book. He dodged effortlessly, dismantling Naruto's clones with a few swift kicks.

"Is that all you've got?" Kakashi yawned. "You'll never get these bells without intent to kill."

Morkel, watching from the sidelines, narrowed his eyes. Kakashi was right. The difference in skill between them was immense. If they weren't serious, they had no chance of passing.

More importantly, Morkel understood what this test was really about: teamwork.

Naruto was too reckless, charging in without thinking. Sasuke was too independent, refusing to coordinate with the others. If they kept acting on their own, Kakashi would have no trouble keeping them all at bay.

Morkel needed a plan.

After a moment of thought, he smirked.

Forming a quick hand seal, he whispered, "Shadow Clone Jutsu."

Hundreds of Morkel clones appeared in an instant, surrounding the training field.

Kakashi blinked in surprise.

Naruto, seeing Morkel use the same jutsu, warned him, "Morkel, Shadow Clones won't work! Kakashi-sensei is too strong!"

Morkel merely smiled. "We'll see."

A breeze rustled through the training ground, lifting Morkel's red hair. He stood in the sunlight, his grin unwavering.

For a brief moment, Kakashi stared at him, mesmerized.

There was something different about this kid.

A strange feeling washed over Kakashi as he observed Morkel's confidence.

'He reminds me of someone…'

Then, Morkel spoke. "Sensei, now isn't the time to be distracted."

Hundreds of clones charged in unison.

Kakashi barely had time to react. He flipped backward, dodging the first wave, but the clones came from every angle. His book was knocked from his hands as he countered the assault.

"Not bad," he admitted, weaving through the attacks. "But still not enough."

He formed a single hand seal. "Body Flicker."

In a blur, Kakashi disappeared and reappeared behind Morkel, aiming to grab his shoulder—

But it was a clone.

The real Morkel struck from behind, launching a kunai at the bells.

Kakashi dodged at the last second, grabbing Morkel's wrist. "Almost," he said with a grin. "But not quite."

At that moment, Sasuke appeared, hurling shuriken toward Kakashi's blind spot.

Kakashi released Morkel and twisted away just in time. "Oh? You're working together now?"

Naruto, seeing an opportunity, lunged forward. "I've got him!"

But Kakashi countered effortlessly, catching Naruto's punch and tossing him into the dirt. "Nice try."

Morkel, rubbing his wrist, smirked. "We're getting closer, though."

Kakashi gave them an approving nod. "Indeed. But let's see if you can keep up."

In an instant, he vanished again.

The trio, now aware of his tricks, stood back to back, scanning their surroundings.

"He's testing our teamwork," Morkel murmured. "We need a strategy."

Sasuke scowled but nodded. "Fine. What's the plan?"

Naruto dusted himself off. "Yeah! Let's beat him together!"

Morkel's eyes gleamed. "Alright. Here's what we'll do…"

---

The battle continued, with the trio finally coordinating their attacks. Kakashi, impressed by their progress, increased the difficulty. Time ticked away, and noon approached.

Would they succeed?

Or would they fail like all the others before them?

Only time would tell.
