Chapter 43: Studying Medicine Alone Can’t Save the Ninja World
"Looks pretty good," Tsunade said as she paid for two ice pops. She casually handed one of them to Shinho Aburame.
"Thank you, Sensei," Shinho replied. He took a bite and shivered from the cold.
Tsunade smiled, placing the ice pop against her soft lips. Her pink tongue flicked out as she savored each lick. By the time they returned home, the ice pops were gone.
"Let's wait for Shizune to come back and cook dinner," Tsunade said. She kicked off her shoes and walked barefoot into the house.
Sitting on the sofa, she removed her jacket, revealing a sleeveless top underneath.
"When will Sister Shizune be back?" Shinho asked. He already knew she had gone to Konoha Hospital.
"In about an hour," Tsunade said casually.
"That's too long," Shinho thought for a moment. "I'll cook for today."
"You can cook?" Tsunade crossed her arms and teased, "Kid, are you trying to boast?"
She didn't believe a six-year-old could cook—surely it would taste awful.
Shinho glanced at her and said, "I believe in replying with results."
Watching him walk away, Tsunade was slightly taken aback. "Can he really cook?" she wondered, crossing her legs thoughtfully. Oh well, even if she ended up being food-poisoned, she was confident she could handle it.
Shinho didn't start cooking right away—it was still too early. He looked at the carp in the basin. Taking it out, he placed it on the cutting board. Shinho began his practice.
Half an hour later, his expression changed slightly. "Success! I did it!" he exclaimed.
Shinho appeared in the living room, holding the cutting board.
Tsunade laughed. Leaning forward, her ample bosom pressed against her arms. She rested her hands on her thighs, supporting her chin.
"Kid," Tsunade said with indescribable delight, "You were so confident before, but you can't even handle a fish."
Since Shinho was practicing medical ninjutsu, there were five fish prepared in the kitchen. She thought he was planning to cook fish.
For some reason, seeing Shinho face setbacks made her happy. Maybe because he's usually too calm, confident he can do anything, seeing a crack in that confident face delighted her.
"Look at the fish," Shinho reminded her.
"What's so special about a fish?" Tsunade paused, then let out a soft "hmm?" She suddenly realized this was the same fish Shinho had been practicing on. Could it be...?
Tsunade extended her hand over the carp, activating her sensory perception. Its internal condition became instantly clear.
"Congratulations," Tsunade said, looking at Shinho. "Less than two weeks..."
If she hadn't seen it herself, she wouldn't have believed someone could surpass her talent in medical ninjutsu. But now it seemed Shinho indeed exceeded her.
"But don't get cocky," Tsunade's expression turned serious. "You're just getting started."
He understood. As the saying goes, persuading someone to study medicine invites divine retribution. There's a long way to go from beginner to expert.
"I'll go make dinner, then," Shinho nodded.
"Wait a minute," Tsunade beckoned him with her finger. "Come here."
Are you calling a dog over?! But being Tsunade's dog... Shinho shook his head. That's not acceptable; he couldn’t develop such a mindset. He wanted to be the master!
Shinho walked over.
"I want to check your body," Tsunade raised her palm.
"Why?" Shinho instinctively took a step back.
"What are you so shy about?" Tsunade smiled and explained, "I want to check your chakra levels to decide how to teach you next."
Shinho said nothing more, allowing her delicate hand to rest on his abdomen. His aperture was protected by the system; it wouldn't be exposed.
"The amount is more than I expected, and the quality isn't bad," Tsunade opened her eyes, somewhat surprised. She even wondered if Shinho had the bloodline of the Uzumaki or Senju clans. Especially the Senju clan. They had already integrated into the Hidden Leaf Village; perhaps they had intermarried with the Aburame clan.
"Go make dinner," Tsunade took the opportunity to ruffle his hair. Seeing his slightly unhappy expression, she felt delighted.
Shinho turned and left. Now he could finally squeeze the last bit of value out of that carp.
"Let's make spicy fish," Shinho glanced at the seasonings in the kitchen. With a swift motion, he ended the carp's life without causing any pain.
Shizune returned home. She stood at the doorway, bent down, and took off her shoes. Like Tsunade, she was bare-legged and barefoot. But unlike Tsunade, she had ninja tools strapped to her thigh.
As Shizune walked into the house, she suddenly froze. "What’s going on?"
She actually saw Tsunade sitting at the dining table, writing something. This was a rare sight—once in a decade.
"Lady Tsunade," Shizune stepped forward, curiously peeking over. She instinctively read the title aloud, "Shinho Aburame's Training Plan?"
"He's already at the entry level; he can start learning medical ninjutsu," Tsunade said without looking up.
"What?!" Shizune couldn't help showing an incredulous expression. But she quickly calmed down. If it's Shinho, it makes sense.
She sighed; as his senior, the pressure she felt now was increasing. Being so easily surpassed made her feel especially useless.
"I'll go make dinner," Shizune rekindled her fighting spirit. At least she was still useful.
"Shinho is cooking," Tsunade said casually.
"Huh?" Shizune's expression froze.
"Go take a look," Tsunade paused her writing and smiled. "Make sure that kid doesn't blow up the kitchen."
She still had doubts about Shinho's cooking skills.
Shizune felt slightly relieved. So, he's just trying his hand at cooking? Then as his big sister, she should guide him properly.
Shizune chuckled and went to the kitchen. But as soon as she arrived, she sensed something was off. A rich aroma filled the air. She instinctively swallowed.
It smells so good—the taste must be great.
"Shinho," Shizune leaned in, glanced at the pot, and couldn't help asking, "What dish is this?"
"Spicy fish," Shinho replied.
Shizune stood there, stunned. A dish she didn't know how to make. Now even her only advantage was gone?
Coming back to her senses, Shizune bent down and hugged Shinho, vigorously ruffling his hair with both hands.
"...?"
Shinho looked puzzled. Hey, what are you doing? A sneak-attack hug?
Unfortunately for her, Shinho was more adept at playing ball with Tsunade.
"It's nothing," Shizune released him and said, "Carry on."
She looked around; there was nothing she could help with, so she took the dishes and chopsticks out.
Soon, the spicy fish was served.
"Did you really make this?" Tsunade blinked, somewhat skeptical.
"He did," Shizune handed Tsunade the chopsticks. "I saw it with my own eyes."
"Then I have to try it," Tsunade picked up a piece of fish and popped it into her mouth. Her cheeks flushed slightly.
"A bit spicy, but it tastes good," Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "I've decided—from now on, you'll be in charge of cooking!"
"What?" Shizune stood there dumbfounded. Then what would she do? Oh no! I've been replaced!
Shinho glanced at Shizune and said, "I don't have that much time."
