Chapter 12: Chapter 12 : Encounter
After eating and drinking until they were satisfied, the three sat down to chat while digesting, and the topic inevitably turned to the mysterious man and the Death Eaters.
"They're just a bunch of vipers hiding in the shadows, good for nothing except jumping out and biting you when you least expect it." Hagrid clearly held great contempt for the mysterious man and his Death Eaters.
"But it seems things have calmed down lately. The newspapers haven't mentioned the Death Eaters in ages," said Anduin, watching Hagrid's indignant expression.
"Burp, those damn fellows have gone into hiding again, but don't let your guard down. They're definitely plotting some new conspiracy, though we still have Dumbledore's Order of the Phoenix. I believe we'll win this war," Hagrid said after a burp.
"Isn't the Ministry of Magic fighting them too? Then why did Dumbledore need to form the Order of the Phoenix?" Anduin had doubts in his mind. Shouldn't the Ministry distrust a private armed group like the Order of the Phoenix? War should be organized by a regular army. Having served in the military in his previous life, Anduin saw no need for such private armed organizations.
"The Dark Lord is very good at bewitching people's hearts. You can't fully trust the Ministry of Magic because there are many inside who support the Dark Lord's ideals and serve him. Nobody knows if there are Death Eaters lurking within," Hagrid said, then leaned in with a mysterious expression and whispered, "And many Aurors from the Ministry have also joined the Order of the Phoenix. Just as Dumbledore said, we must use secrecy to fight secrecy."
Hagrid's eyebrows danced as he explained to Anduin with a radiant, almost boastful expression.
Are you seriously telling me this kind of intelligence so casually?
Seeing Hagrid spilling secrets everywhere after drinking too much, Anduin suddenly felt very worried about their future.
The two chatted at the Leaky Cauldron until very late. Hagrid and Tom drank the bottle of blackcurrant rum until it was empty. Hagrid, his eyes blurry from the drink, noticed the curfew had passed and hurriedly said goodbye to Anduin and the others to return to school.
"How do you plan to get back? The Floo Network in the Leaky Cauldron broke down some time ago. Those damn Death Eaters have the Ministry of Magic in chaos, and the Department of Magical Transportation can't spare anyone to fix it," Tom reminded him, equally drunk.
At that moment, the shops in Diagon Alley were basically closed, and those providing Floo Network services were generally not open.
"I can go to Knockturn Alley at this hour. Borgin & Burkes there can provide Floo Network services even very late, but it's a shop specializing in selling Dark Arts items. Many of the things inside are very dangerous."
Anduin watched Hagrid stagger as he left, fearing he might pass out drunk in the street, which would be serious. Considering that Diagon Alley had been calm recently and there shouldn't be any danger, and feeling very hot after eating dragon liver, with his head a bit dizzy, he offered to escort him.
Tom had already passed out drunk at the table, and Hagrid's brain was clouded by alcohol, so he didn't think much and agreed.
The two walked all along Diagon Alley to Borgin & Burkes. The owner was not at the counter, and Anduin wondered what he might be busy with. He looked around, feeling everything around him was very interesting. There were masks with terrifying expressions hanging on the wall, a glass eyeball that kept staring at people, and a shriveled human hand placed on a cushion inside a glass case.
"Burp, Anduin, you should go back quickly. Knockturn Alley isn't a safe place. Don't touch things here at random. You don't know if they're cursed with unknown spells," Hagrid burped as he warned Anduin, then entered the fireplace in the shop, grabbed a handful of Floo Powder, shouted "Hogwarts," and vanished in a burst of green flames.
"Isn't the owner afraid someone will steal something?" Anduin looked around and saw that no one was in the store, but he didn't dare to touch the items on the counter.
Leaving Borgin & Burkes, Anduin located the direction and walked toward the exit.
Suddenly, just as Anduin was about to leave the alley where the shop was, a blurry figure appeared out of thin air in front of him.
Anduin recognized the effect of Apparition. He was stunned for a moment and frowned tightly. It seemed he had run into trouble.
But Anduin reacted quickly. He lowered his body and leaned against a pillar next to the alley.
At that moment, Anduin was in the middle of the alley. This alley was located in Knockturn Alley, with many shops connected on both sides. There were many stone pillars protruding halfway that could be used for hiding, and some boxes and wooden barrels piled on both sides. Anduin quickly put out the oil lamp in his hand to avoid being seen.
The person in front of him seemed to be chased by someone and ran into the alley. Nervously, he knocked over several wooden boxes as well. Perhaps due to his nervousness, he didn't notice that someone was crouching on the side of the road, quickly passing Anduin and running wildly deeper into the alley.
Anduin sighed with relief when he saw this. It seemed he hadn't been discovered. He could leave safely after getting out of this alley. He didn't know if this person was friend or foe, so it was better to avoid being seen.
Who would have thought that suddenly two streams of black smoke fell from the air, revealing two figures wearing black robes and skull masks?
As soon as they appeared, one raised his hand and shot a curse at the fleeing person. Seeing the pursuers were relentless, the person running didn't continue to flee, as that would expose his back to the enemy. Instead, he took out his wand and flicked it, deflecting the incoming curse to the side.
With a bang, a wooden barrel by the side of the road was smashed by the curse, sending wood chips flying everywhere.
What followed was a fairly intense exchange of spells.
The current situation was that the person fleeing was on one side of the alley, and the two masked men kept attacking from about a dozen meters away, while Anduin was not far behind them.
Seeing this, Anduin couldn't help but frown. It was truly an unnecessary disaster. It seemed the calm he had felt recently had made him lower his guard. Plus, eating some dragon meat had made him feel hot all over, less calm. After all, it was still a time of war, and he shouldn't be roaming around at night.
Even an idiot could tell that the two who appeared later were Death Eaters. He didn't know if the other side was an Auror or a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Anduin took several deep breaths to calm himself and thought about how to solve the trouble he had gotten into.
The battle was intense on both sides, exchanging spells and also trading verbal blows.
"Snivellus, don't think I can't recognize you just because you're wearing a mask. I can smell the stench of your body from hundreds of meters away." The light from the spells in the darkness illuminated the figures on both sides. The lone person had black hair that didn't reach his ears and a rebellious look on his face, laughing and cursing in the chaos.
"Sirius Black, you fool, you still have the strength to talk. Think carefully about your last words, because we won't let you escape this time". Snivellus sneered coldly while desperately firing spells.
"Stop wasting time with him, finish him quickly. The master is still waiting for our report," another Death Eater next to him kept urging, taking two steps back and muttering something. He seemed to be preparing a powerful spell to take down Sirius Black in one fell swoop.
