Volume 3 Chapter 4
4. Mage and Swordsman
It is well known that in a battle between a warrior and a mage, the warrior has the advantage.
Although a mage’s magic is powerful, chanting requires time.
A warrior, however, doesn’t need that. They can directly engage in close combat. While the mage is chanting, a simple normal attack with their weapon is enough to interrupt the mage’s casting.
In team battles, mages can unleash their full power under the protection of others.
But in a one-on-one situation against a warrior, they are bound to be at a disadvantage.
Therefore, in Yue Liu’s view, it was unwise for the other party to provoke her like this and express a desire to fight.
“Iai · Cherry Blossom Flash!”
Yue Liu’s body suddenly became blurred, vanishing from her original spot. In the next instant, she had already flashed past Xia Yi.
In her high-speed movement, her blade was unleashed, and two sword lights flashed, crisscrossing through Xia Yi’s body.
“Hmph!”
Yue Liu struck a finishing pose, her back to Xia Yi as she slowly sheathed her weapon. She didn’t even look back, fully confident in her swordsmanship.
“This is the fate of those who oppose me… Uwaaah!”
“Fire Wall!”
Xia Yi released a large amount of fire attribute magic power, gathering it into a huge fire wall and pushing it out.
In a panic, Yue Liu hurriedly jumped downwards. The huge fire wall imprinted on the ship’s wall, blasting a giant hole.
“How is this possible!? My secret technique, ineffective?”
Yue Liu looked at Xia Yi, disbelief written all over her face.
“I clearly struck you, and you didn’t dodge. You should have fallen, so how could you still retaliate with magic?”
“Oh? Why indeed?” Xia Yi laughed. “I’m also looking for the reason for that.”
In fact, as soon as she saw Yue Liu’s movement, she had secretly used Chant Regulation.
After using the transformation potion, Xia Yi would turn into a human. Although compared to her dragon state, her abilities would be greatly reduced… But she would still retain some of her abilities, still stronger than ordinary humans.
For example, the bloodline trait of the Royal Silver Dragon Family was the ability to cast magic without chanting. Even in human form, she could still do it.
The effect would just be weaker.
In her dragon state, Xia Yi could instantly cast an Ice Magic Shield to protect herself… In human form, she could only cast a regular Magic Shield, unable to achieve complete defense.
But this level was enough. She only needed to predict Yue Liu’s attack and focus her defense.
For other mages, this would be extremely difficult. After all, everyone has their specialties. Asking someone who studies magic all day to judge how a super-fast swordsman using Iaijutsu would attack is simply impossible.
But Xia Yi was the Human Sword Saint!
She predicted in advance, cast a Magic Shield to block the strike, and then retaliated with magic.
This is micro-control!
“Impossible! How could my Iai fail!?”
Yue Liu couldn’t accept this fact.
The other party was just a lowly human little mage. Surely, she should have been able to defeat such an opponent effortlessly. How could she have missed?
“I don’t believe it! Iai · Cherry Blossom Flash!”
Yue Liu used Iai Slash again, employing the same trick, charging quickly, and two fierce sword lights slashed at Xia Yi.
Even if the other party’s luck was good, there was no way she could withstand a second time.
However…
Xia Yi only retreated a few steps after being hit by Yue Liu’s sword technique, still unscathed.
Just like before, she had used Chant Regulation to create a Magic Shield and block the attack.
“Ice Spike!!”
Under Xia Yi’s control, the cold air condensed into ice, forming ice arrows that rained down on Yue Liu.
“Why did it fail again, my attack!!”
Yue Liu defended against Xia Yi’s magic attacks while falling into doubt.
The battle rhythm had gradually started to shift in Xia Yi’s favor.
“Fire elements, gather together and unleash your surging, raging ferocious might, destroying all enemies!”
Xia Yi raised her wand, and flames gathered above her head like a blazing sun, rapidly increasing the air temperature.
“Fireball!”
Several scorching fireballs fell from the sky like meteors.
“Slash!”
Yue Liu slashed the fireballs in mid-air. The large-scale explosion stirred up a scorching shockwave that swept across the river, vaporizing the water and causing the ship to sway on the Great River.
Mana and Sword Qi kept appearing on the deck of the ship, and the battle between Xia Yi and Yue Liu entered a heated state.
Boom!
After another collision of magic and sword techniques, someone finally couldn’t bear it anymore and rushed out at the risk of danger.
“You two, stop, stop fighting!! If you continue, the ship will sink, and everyone on board will die!!”
“Umm…”
Hearing these words, Xia Yi lowered her wand and cancelled the magic she was about to cast.
Seeing Xia Yi’s action, although Yue Liu was very dissatisfied, also put away her sword.
“Thank heavens, they finally stopped!”
The people on the ship all breathed a sigh of relief.
Honestly, they felt these two girls were even more terrifying than the bandits earlier.
“I’m only stopping temporarily due to the special circumstances. You got lucky!” Yue Liu hugged her ample bosom and turned her head to the side.
Xia Yi was also unwilling to admit defeat. “If I used my true skills, you would have lost long ago.”
She wasn’t even using her full strength now. It was only because her current persona was a human mage that she had been fighting with magic.
Moreover, she hadn’t even used her Rose Staff. The magic she used was also extremely ordinary.
If she used her true abilities, let alone using the Holy Sword, she could have suppressed this stinky Pinky with magic, found an opportunity, and directly smacked her with the Rose Staff until she cried!
“You’re really good at talking big.” Yue Liu replied unhappily. “Let me tell you, if I took out my strongest weapon and true techniques, you would have died ten thousand times already!”
“What I said is the truth!”
“Fine then, use your true abilities and face me head-on!!” Yue Liu glared at Xia Yi.
The other passengers saw the situation was getting out of hand and quickly squeezed between the two girls, forcibly separating them. After some persuasion, the incident finally came to an end.
“Alright, we can set off again for the Rhine Kingdom. I don’t want to delay too long.” Xia Yi said.
“I also don’t want to stay on the same ship as her. I hope to reach the Rhine Kingdom as soon as possible!” Yue Liu turned her head to the side.
Everyone’s gaze unanimously fell on the captain.
The captain stepped forward. His unexpected answer next made everyone’s faces turn ashen.
