Invincible: Vilgax

Chapter 6: Hunting Trip - Part 1

*Vilgax POV*

*Location: Savage Planet Orbit*

*Date: 5027th Rotation/1982 Earth Year*

One year it took one year to find this dustball of a planet, one year of pain and nightmares of my world burning, my flesh burning both in my last life and new one, the drones tearing into my flesh whilst I was still breathing. At times, I didn't know if I was still alive, or if I was dead and in some twisted hell whose mechanisms I couldn't understand. Honestly speaking, I think I nearly went insane a few times as I isolated myself from the world, just building and designing weapons.

I knew that just my body alone wouldn't be enough to take down a Viltrumite; I didn't possess their speed and flying capabilities. That and just in case this new body wasn't enough, I would need some way to even the odds. With the help of my drones as well, I was able to design two gauntlets that could provide a bit of added defense, alongside some easily modifiable parts that I could switch out for spikes in case my strength turns out to be enough, but it would add a bit of extra oomph.

Then the sonic weaponry, that part would be tricky, seeing as I had no Viltrumite to test it on, and if I got the frequency wrong, well, adjustments would have to be made, hopefully not during battle. Unfortunately for me, I didn't have them build a testing room for me, so it would have to be on the ground. That also brought to my largest concern...the planet's gravity is far denser than what I would be used to, and while I did build my machines and cybernetics to be extremely durable, I didn't know if I would be able to use my equipment.

No matter that's why the scientific method exists, if something failed, I would analyze it and improve the machine in question so it wouldn't happen again. Then came the next problem: this planet, I'm sure, the Rognarr weren't the only species that survived and evolved there, but whether or not they were as deadly, for right now, would remain a mystery.

Either way, it was time to land on the planet, somewhere out of the way, so that my ship wasn't damaged. That or the Rognarr wouldn't mistake it for food or something else, nor make it a nest of some kind, as I was sure the beast had some form of mating ritual or practice they did, but what it was I would rather remain unknown. I was no researcher, nor was I interested in seeing such a thing.

Sitting down in my chair, I began pressing a few buttons as we began descending through the planet's orbit slowly. This ship began to shake a little as it was tugged by the planet's gravity, forcing it down, and would probably need extra juice to get out of orbit, but this trip was needed. I needed some creature of similiar strength to a Viltrumite to test my new body on and adapt to.

As the ship fully entered the atmosphere, I could really see what the landscape of this world was mainly composed of. There were bits of green on the planet, not enough to be cut down and used for resources, but enough to provide decent air, enough to make the planet breathable at least. Although there might have been some algae to help create oxygen alongside some small lakes and rivers, perhaps for water.

Looking around and scanning the landscape, looking for a large enough area to land my ship, but far enough that the Rognarr wouldn't bother with it. I eventually found a nice flat area high enough that the beast wouldn't look there unless they were desperate, but close enough to the ground that I could easily find it. The ship shook a little as it landed, the landing gear spreading out and keeping hold of the ground. Eventually, it all stopped, but the ship creaked a little, not used to gravity this intense, which would probably need to be rectified in the future.

Pressing a few buttons, I opened a hatch door and let the fresh and somehow foul air in. It reeked of rot and decay, and as I grabbed my gauntlets and strapped them on with the spike modifiers on, I readied myself for however long I would train here. Walking down the ship ramp, I was able to get a full view of my new temporary home, the rock formations, and clear signs of battle, at least when I looked over the edge of my landing platform.

Meaning that a battle had occurred nearby recently and would be a good sign of nearby Rognarr's, perhaps. Either that or some of the planet's other creatures were nearby and were either dead or had moved their battle somewhere else. Either way, it was a good place as any to start searching. Jumping down, I could easily feel the increased gravity now weighing on me, and pulling me down.

I used my immense strength to fight against it and move around, hoping I would adapt to the intense gravity. Looking around, I spotted small traces of red blood and bent down studying it, and seeing where it went. Following it, the battle had moved over to a large open field, with only a few sharp rocks pointed up into the air and a half-eaten corpse of some strange quadruped reptile. It was a dark brown color with three sharp claws on it. Picking up the beast, I crushed its arm easily, a poor sign of its durability alongside the hanging intrals.

That meant this creature probably ran away from fights and was a scavenger at best, either that or its pack turned on it in starvation. That's when I heard them, the growling of strange creatures and skittering beasts. Getting up, I slammed my fist together and cracked my neck, getting ready for a fight as the first of these monstrous creatures jumped on my back.

It was a foul thing, I could see its yellow eyes and gnashing fangs that would tear through me if given the chance. I could also smell the faint smell of blood on its breath; it was probably the creature that killed and ate one of its fellow kind. Grabbing it in one hand, I slammed the creature down and began dragging it across the ground as I ran towards another of its pack mates, which had been hiding itself in the shadows unseen until the battle started anyway.

It jumped on me as another went for my leg, biting on my armor as I raised up my free arm, as the second one began denting my armor. Straining myself, I forced the second of the three creatures up into the air, and grabbed it by the neck and lifted both up, slamming them into one another. They both splattered against one another, dying instantly and freaking the third and final member of this pack.

It tried to skitter off and bury itself in some deep, dark hole, hoping I wouldn't go after it, but it was wrong. I ran forward, my long legs allowing me to easily catch up to. The creature tried snapping at me, but all that did was give me an opening as I grabbed its upper and lower jaw, ripping its head apart with ease.

Picking up the recently killed creature, I began examining it and studying the thing. It was durable, I will give it that, but it was nowhere near a Rognarr's durability and strength. The jaws, as well, this creature had an interesting amount of jaw strength and was able to easily dent my armor despite how much time I put into it. Ripping it open, the skeletal structure was interesting to look at, and the beast's bones were far stronger than its skin.

Taking it all out, I decided that it would make for some interesting adornments on my armor and may provide some extra protection. I ripped the ribcages out of the four beasts and put them on my legs, all four of them, and then created a makeshift helmet out of their arms/legs for some head protection.

I then picked up some of its flesh and began devouring it whole, lifting up my mask to do so and taste the wretched beast. It tasted disgustign and like old garbage, but it would serve as sustenance for now, knowing that I would be here for a bit as I tested my mettle against the local inhabitants. Strapping two of them on my back, I began to walk and essentially sightsee my new temporary home planet, wanting to get a feel for my new landscape and not be caught off guard.

I encountered a few of those pests, but they backed off seeing some of their kin's bones and bodies strapped to my body. I then began smelling something different, a faint smell of blood, old and yet familiar. Following my nose, I eventually came across a large battlefield just as the sun started to set.

It was an old, decayed female body, humanoid and wearing...a Viltrumite soldier's clothing. Meaning that perhaps a Rognarr pack was nearby and sleeping or eating something, and either way, this little trip was already providing me with something quite beneficial. Picking up the torn clothes, I began wrapping them around my body, something to serve as a reminder to the future Viltrumites I fight that they weren't invincible, and I knew this, and I would serve as a reminder to them.

A reminder that they weren't gods or anything close to that level of power. I knew this and would forever know this, and would rise above them. I would crush their skulls and skeletons with my bar hangs, hang them from my walls, showing this universe and myself that all this death would stop, their conquest would be over. That those worlds would be free once more.

I was tempted to drag the body back with me to my ship, but odds were that the DNA was degraded beyond what could be salvaged and would be useless, only serving to stink up my ship.

No matter, I would get my hands on one of them eventually, and I would take their abilties for my own once I could alongside the Rognarr's, then I would have no fear of most creatures in this universe. Any that weren't hidden anyway, which could be possible, but for right now, the two beasts were the strongest in this universe, and I would slay them.

I would crush their skulls with my bare hands!
