Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Return to Cheng Family
The cashier sneaked several glances at Cheng Yi while scanning the items; in fact, she had already noticed him when Cheng Yi and Xinan entered the supermarket.
The two of them were exceptionally attractive, especially the man. One look was enough to make him unforgettable.
"Sir, your total is 514 yuan. Will you be paying with cash or by mobile payment?"
Cheng Yi took out his phone and said, "Mobile payment."
Not only was he good-looking, but his voice was also pleasant to the ear. The cashier suppressed her excitement, "Alright, sir."
After checking out, Xinan initially wanted to help carry the bags, but Cheng Yi took everything in his own hands.
As they reached the door, the cashier suddenly called out, "Sir, you and your girlfriend really make a great couple."
Upon hearing this, Xinan instinctively wanted to see Cheng Yi's expression but missed it as Cheng Yi had already stepped out.
Xinan turned around and gave the cashier a slight smile: "Thank you."
After they left, the cashier hurriedly took out her phone and found her best friend's chat box, and started poking furiously.
"Do you know? I just saw a couple with such high attractiveness."
"Especially the man; he's freaking handsome. I swear I've never seen a guy that good-looking in my life."
"They absolutely have to be together! They're perfect for each other."
Although Cheng Yi had already walked out, he heard what the cashier said.
A faint smile crossed his lips, but it faded as Xinan approached.
Because of that cashier's remark, Xinan had a grin on her face all the way home, and even made a big dinner that evening.
In addition to a few of her specialty dishes, she made a new dish she had learned a few days earlier. It was the first time Cheng Yi would taste this dish, and she didn't know if it would suit his palate.
Cheng Yi noticed it too.
He lifted his chopsticks and took a small piece into his mouth.
"How is it?" Although Xinan tried to restrain her anticipation, she still asked.
"Not bad."
With the affirmation, Xinan then served herself rice, lifted her chopsticks, and wanted to try that dish first.
Seeing this, Cheng Yi called out, "Wait a second."
But Xinan had already put the dish in her mouth. Before she could chew a few times, she felt a scorching sensation rising from her mouth and spreading to her stomach.
So spicy!!!
The next second, tears were already swirling in Xinan's eyes, while Cheng Yi, seemingly having anticipated this, poured a glass of milk and handed it to Xinan.
Xinan quickly picked up the cup and drank all the milk in one breath to ease the burn.
She had only added three small chilies, why was it so spicy!
Xinan took a piece of tissue paper to wipe away the tears that were about to spill, then looked at Cheng Yi and asked, "How could you eat that if it's so spicy? Don't you feel the heat?"
Cheng Yi said, "Yeah, it's spicy."
"Then how come you look perfectly fine after eating it?"
Cheng Yi said seriously, "Maybe it's because my constitution is different from ordinary people."
Xinan immediately knew Cheng Yi was talking nonsense, so she didn't ask further. There could only be two reasons: either Cheng Yi really liked spicy food, or he had great tolerance.
Obviously, it was the latter.
Due to the lesson learned, Xinan did not attempt to eat that dish again, but Cheng Yi calmly took several more pieces.
Watching his unperturbed expression, Xinan genuinely admired him.
"Come back to the Cheng Family with me in a few days," Cheng Yi suddenly said.
Xinan was slightly stunned. Why did Cheng Yi suddenly want to take her to his family home?
She and Cheng Yi had been registered for marriage for almost half a year, but this was the first time Cheng Yi suggested bringing her to his family home. Could it be that he was starting to accept her?
At that thought, Xinan's heart fluttered with excitement.
"Okay," she said.
Xinan hadn't visited the old Cheng Family residence in a long while; the last time was for Cheng Yi's eighteenth birthday.
As the sole heir of the Cheng Family, his coming-of-age ceremony was definitely extravagant and grand.
On that day, from the Cheng patriarch and matriarch to all of Jing City's prominent officials and nobility, all attended Cheng Yi's ceremony.
The grandeur of the occasion was a clear testament to how much the elder Mr. Cheng valued Cheng Yi.
The Cheng Family's old mansion covered an area of about thirty acres, with an architectural style that was simple and elegant. Behind it was a flat and wide lawn with lush, green grass and fresh air, presenting a pleasant scenery.
Although it wasn't Xinan's first time meeting Mr. and Mrs. Cheng, she still felt a bit nervous.
After all, she wasn't visiting as Cheng Yi's friend, but as his wife.
As she was pondering what to say to Mr. and Mrs. Cheng later on, Cheng Yi suddenly took her hand and intertwined their fingers.
Xinan was immediately stunned, unable to move.
Cheng Yi looked at her: "Let's go."
Xinan hadn't yet reacted when he pulled her towards the Cheng Family's main gate.
The Cheng Family's servant was standing at the entrance and upon seeing them, immediately shouted inside, "The young master and young mistress are back."
As they entered the Cheng Family's hall, Mrs. Cheng came forward to greet them, "Nannan, it's been a while since I've seen you, you're looking better and better."
Xinan smiled and said, "Auntie, you're the one who's looking younger and younger."
Xinan's compliment wasn't an attempt to flatter, but it was indeed the truth.
Mrs. Cheng was famously beautiful in her youth in Jing City. At that time, there were four renowned beauties in Jing City, and she was the foremost among them.
Whether in terms of appearance or family background, she surpassed the other three.
Cheng Yi had inherited her looks, especially his eyes, which were very much alike.
Although she was over fifty, she maintained herself well and appeared to be just over forty.
Mrs. Cheng: "Still calling me auntie?"
Immediately, Xinan's face reddened slightly with embarrassment and she called out, "Mom."
"Ah, good child," Mrs. Cheng said, looking at Xinan with a smiling face full of benevolence.
Xinan could feel the gentle aura emanating from her.
Upon returning to the Cheng Family home, Cheng Yi was called into the study by Mr. Cheng for a talk, mostly about company matters.
Even though Cheng Yi had successfully taken over Yifeng Group, Mr. Cheng still inquired about certain matters, offering his ideas and opinions.
But the final decision lay with Cheng Yi.
After Cheng Yi left, Mrs. Cheng pulled Xinan over to sit on the sofa for a chat.
"Nannan, Ah Yi is a deep thinker; he tends to keep things to himself. I hope you can be more understanding towards him," Mrs. Cheng said earnestly.
She knew her son's temperament too well. Just a glance was enough for her to know that Cheng Yi truly liked Xinan.
Xinan replied, "I will."
Mrs. Cheng patted Xinan's hand, "That's good."
Her son was far too rational. From childhood, he hardly gave her any worries, but his excessive rationality often made it hard for others to see through him.
