Chapter 295 - A Confrontation between the royals of Aeterdumnox
As the queen of Eieneos left the personal chambers of King Eirsolin, there was silence between the four individuals that were left behind. Both King Eirsolin and Void remained seated where they were. Eirsolin who was stunned before was now trying to keep his blood pressure down.
Who even comes in another person's personal chamber without permission? Is there no more etiquette in this world, not even a simple knock?
Lord Cynfael knows that he and his son were in the wrong so he has to speak first to ease the tension. This son of his will really be the death of him. Did this dunce even think about how they would explain about their sudden visit or rather, intrusion?
Cynfael coughed embarrassedly and explained, "Greetings King Eirsolin and Crown Prince Void. We do apologize for the sudden visit and not knocking on the door too."
As he finished his greeting and apology, Athan seemed to have lost the strength in his legs as he suddenly ended up slumping on the ground with a thud. Cynfael hurriedly checked on his son who seemed to have suddenly become weak.
Void and Athan never had a good relationship since they were young. Even if Void told Luna that he was fine with her having children with others, in truth, he will never be totally okay with it. Knowing that she is keeping a child that was sired with this guy has been gnawing his sanity from the time he found out about it. The only consolation was that he knew that this bastard did not have THAT type of relationship with his woman before and the child was sired through other means.
Void looked at Athan who was slumped on the ground with cold eyes. He definitely knew why his body suddenly got sick but he has no intention to help a rival. He looked at his father and nodded, signifying his intention to leave. He then stood up and walked towards the door to go back to his room.
Just as Void passed by the seemingly weak and dazed Athan, the guy who was previously slumped on the floor suddenly grabbed his wrist as if he wanted to crush it. Void who has been controlling his anger flung his hand as if disgusted or burnt by his touch but the guy kept clinging on to him. Athan looked up with eyes that has turned red from anger and accusation.
Void looked down with his cold eyes but opted not to say anything. If looking at someone could kill, Athan would have died a thousand times in different ways. Athan with a hoarse voice, trying to keep his anger in asked, "Why is your body enveloped with her scent?"
He smirked and sarcastically asked, purposely trying to anger the other, "What does it have to do with you if I do intimate things with my wife? As for the scent, it may be because we were in bed earlier."
Athan's eyes widened as his anger started flaring up, each word sounding angrier than before, "In bed? Wife?!"
Taking advantage of Athan's distraction, Void flung his hand again and this time the guy's grip loosened. Void then teleported back to his room quickly, intending to wash off the filth that has touched his wrist and to take a quick shower to cool off his anger before he ends up killing the insolent bastard.
Athan was still speechless and surprised with everything that Void said earlier. Knowing that he won't be able to catch up with him to ask further, he placed his attention towards King Eirsolin. He breathed deeply since he does not want to appear too accusatory or rude to him.
Athan asked, "When did your son get a wife? Who is that woman earlier?"
True to the saying that an apple does not fall far from its tree, Eirsolin also answered sarcastically, "I did not know that I have to update you about my son's affairs. Why would you even ask me about it when you have spies all over my side of the territory?"
Cynfael sensing the increasing tension coughed and responded, "I won't deny that I have people checking for anyone who makes a visit to your side of the territory but I have never asked them to pry inside the palace or any specific conversations you have. Please understand that my son is just desperate to find his descendant as of the moment."
Eirsolin, copying the tone that Athan used earlier, asked Cynfael, "When did your son gain a descendant? Why is he asking about my guest?"
Cynfael and Eirsolin have always had a very delicate relationship maybe even worse than how their sons feel about each other. If they had no shared interests on keeping their respective races alive in this equally divided sanctuary, they would have never found the need to meet face to face, much less talk amicably at all like today.
Cynfael, trying his best not to lash out due to the continuous sarcasm of the dark elf father and son responded, "My son recently discovered the existence of a child that he sired with an unknown woman. We are asking for the identity of the woman earlier because we have a strong feeling that she has my grandchild with her."
Eirsolin looked at Cynfael in amusement, "Oh, that's unfortunate for your family, isn't it? As for the woman earlier, she came here to ask my permission to take in my son as her official husband which I readily agreed to. If you want to know more information, ask her who she is. You are free to use your own methods to approach her."
Cynfael with gritted teeth responded, "She's your daughter-in-law then. You must at least know her name or where she lives then. Can't you at least just give us that?"
Eirsolin responded with a scoff, "Why would I? I saw my daughter-in-law's face a while ago and she definitely did not want to meet the both of you so she left immediately when you arrived. Oh, there's one other thing I can tell you about her."
This time, it was Athan who answered eagerly, "What is it, King Eirsolin? Any information I could use to find my child would help."
Eirsolin looked at Athan and with a smug face answered, "My daughter-in-law is the current queen of Eieneos. As the king, I would like to tell you that she will eventually send the both of us an offer we can't decline. We will surely be asked to pay a compensation she has set to give us favors or benefits soon. I have already paid the compensation in advance so I guess our people will gain those benefits more before yours."
Cynfael losing a bit more patience still tried to speak politely, "May I know what type of favor are you pertaining to and the compensation you have willingly paid for it?"
Eirsolin replied, "I do not have the obligation to tell you about it. All I can say is we will have preferential treatment for sure since she is my daughter-in-law. As for compensation, I doubt that you will be able to match it. If there is nothing else, please be on your way since I want to rest."
Leaving those last words, Eirsolin walked out of his personal chambers then called for one of the guards to lead his unwanted guests out of the palace and his territory. As for Cynfael and Athan, they had no choice but to leave with barely enough information to guide them to their next step.
Cynfael assisted his son who has gone weak as they walked out of Eirsolin's personal chambers. Once out of the palace, he teleported straight to the blood demons' palace since his son won't be able to do it as he is too weak. Cynfael carried his son and settled him gently on a bed and called for healers.
The healers arrived within a few minutes to cater to the youngest prince. After their check up, they advised that Athan simply needed to rest since his mana and life essences were depleted with only 20% of it remaining, just enough to keep himself alive. They said that this was the reason why he suddenly lost control of his legs and collapsed from weakness. It was a miracle that he did not lose his consciousness outright.
When the healers left, Cynfael had a serious talk with his son about how the royals of the dark elves treated them. Athan shared that he sensed that the cunning father and son know way more than what they are telling others. He felt that how they answered and how they acted as if they were in a hurry to kick the two of them out was indeed very fishy.
Cynfael also shared his confusion about how just teleporting once and for a short distance at that, has caused Athan to deplete his mana and life essences to only 20% which is a dangerous level. The mana consumption of a teleportation spell should not be that much and should not deplete life essences at the same time. Athan shared that once he sensed an enticing fragrance when they entered the room, he felt that all his strength was siphoned out in an instant and as to where it all went, he has no idea since everything happened too quickly.
The next topic they discussed was about the female guest they saw inside the personal chambers of the dark elf king. Athan said that though he did not see her face, somewhere in his soul, he knows that it was the woman he met in Arista. He then said that the main issue was if she was connected to Eieneos, it will be very difficult to get a favorable negotiation about his child. He is also isn't sure if he can stand sharing the same wife with Void for the sake of seeing his child born then grow up.
