Chapter 456: The High-Heaven Kingdom
— Within a pure white palace in the High-Heaven Kingdom that hovered above the Forest of Jagga and many other land-based territories —
"Hmm?" An old man who looked as if he had been asleep for centuries suddenly opened his willowy eyes. "Why has the River of Destiny been acting up so much as of late?"
For the last period of time, this old man—revered and feared even by Immortal Realm Cultivators—had been distracted by the River of Destiny. As one of the strongest beings on the Continent, not much could elude him, but whatever was constantly tampering with the natural course of destiny was one of those things.
Making a series of esoteric hand symbols, the old man attempted to get to the bottom of this anomaly once and for all. However, he was left with deeply furrowed brows and a hint of confusion contorting his wrinkled forehead.
"I'm already at the peak of the Soul Formation Realm," said the old man. "Even Immortals in the Nascent Soul Realm have no way of hiding anything from me. So how is it that this tampering, performed by an obviously weaker being, is capable of evading my scrutiny?"
The only thing the old man could gather from his in-depth investigations was that whatever was interfering with the River of Destiny was not doing so on purpose. He also learned that the culprit was someone with negligible cultivation—likely a newly born genius of sorts.
"...But what sort of genius could possibly bring about these sorts of changes to the River of Destiny…?"
Even the Prodigal Sons of Heaven were not able to alter the course of fate and destiny, and they were the best geniuses the High-Heaven Kingdom had to offer.
"Just what sort of destiny must you have for your actions to bring about such chaos in the River of Destiny…?"
In front of his transcendental eyes was a layer of dimensionality that depicted a vast river containing the past, present, and future of the Ancient Desolate Continent. However, contrary to its usual singular, linear direction, it was branched off at hundreds of different points.
Most harrowing of all was how that number was only increasing… with each branch branching off into more branches…
"The Universal Law of Entropy," the old man muttered. "Everything that is orderly is destined to descend into the disorderly—to drown in chaos."
No matter what was causing the drastic changes in the River of Destiny, it was sure to snowball to an irreversible degree.
When that happened… even all the Immortals of the Ancient Desolate Continent would not be able to prevent the descent of Chaos…
"I've already achieved the pinnacle of cultivation in the Ancient Desolate Continent, and yet there's still nothing I can do to reverse the changes done to the River of Destiny." The old man's divine sense fell on a stunningly beautiful woman cultivating behind a waterfall in an area outside the Palace. "But this was never my hurdle to overcome. This Tribulation should be left to the younger generation."
"My disciple is a genius rarely seen in a million years. She is the light that will guide us out of the chaos that threatens to engulf everything."
In the Ancient Desolate Continent, there were six main Cultivation Realms. In order, they went from Body Refinement → Qi Condensation → Foundation Establishment → Golden Core → Nascent Soul → Soul Formation.
However, once you reached the peak of the Golden Core Realm, you had already achieved the peak of Mortal Cultivation. Anything beyond that was considered part of the Realms of Immortality, with each Immortal Cultivator capable of dividing seas and flipping mountain ranges with ease.
Only 0.000001% of cultivators ever broke through their limits and ascended to Immortality. These cultivators were of the Nascent Soul Realm and were commonly referred to as Heavenly Deities.
As for Soul Formation Realm Cultivators, they were known as Supreme Deities, with their powers unrivaled in the Ancient Desolate Continent.
To advance to this incomprehensible Realm, even thousands of years might not be enough…
OOOM!
*Ding!*
[Half of your Branches have evolved to Level 4!]
[One fourth of your Roots have evolved to Level 4!]
[Your Trunk evolved to Level 4!]
[Your physical attributes have tremendously increased!]
"It's been over half a year since I reached Rank 5, and yet I've only achieved this much," Necro sighed. "I really need to get my Shadow Tree Soldiers into the Qi Condensation Realm so their range of influence can be exponentially extended. However, the Qi Condensation Realm is not so easy to reach."
You could spend your entire life trying to break through the Qi Condensation Realm and never see the light at the end of the tunnel. On the other hand, you could be extremely talented and truly embark on the path of a cultivator within a few years.
For most, it all boiled down to talent, with external resources as a supplement.
That was unless you were Necro…
[Evolution Points: 15,300]
"This is what I've set aside as savings," he said as he looked at the 9 Shadow Tree Soldiers kneeling below him. "It's enough to bring all 10 of you over the edge and become true powerhouses—... Where is Lazy?"
The 9 Shadow Tree Soldiers instantly pointed at the shadowy figure snoring in the distance. He still had Lang Qingyue abusing him every so often, but right now, she was out purchasing human food from a nearby village—meaning that he was free to laze around all he wante-...
"Lazy."
Necro's voice was not loud, but it was cold—deathly so.
Lazy immediately sprung into action, pretending as if he had been doing something this whole time.
"Guh! Guh!!" 'Who wants to go against my Master and Creator!? I'd like to see you try to get past this Lord Lazy!!'
"Stop making a fool out of yourself and get over here," Necro ordered. "Even though you're useless, you're still a vital part of the Shadow Tree Soldier Army."
"Guh… Guh…? 'Teehee~'
Lazy wore a bashful expression as he lined up beside the other Shadow Tree Soldiers. They were far more disciplined and singular than him, yet he still had the audacity to say, "Guh Guh Guh!"
'Don't worry, your big brother Lazy is here!'
Naturally, the Shadow Tree Soldiers ignored him.
Yet this didn't sadden him, for he was Lazy! His brain could barely process even the simplest of things!
