Chapter 455: Lineage Disciples from the Two Sects
Lang Qingyue really didn't want to willingly settle another woman into the place where she stayed with Necro, but she was even more unwilling to deny one of his requests.
This she chose the lesser evil.
'Big Brother Necro…?' Bai Ning's expression worsened as she followed behind Lang Qingyue. 'I was the first to meet Lord Tree. Why does this bimbo get to have a special nickname for him? It's not fair!'
Although the two girls were already off to a bad start, Necro wasn't too worried that they'd suddenly start fighting.
"I should let them get accustomed to one another."
With that intention in mind, Necro entered a state of half-consciousness. This was how he usually spent his time, slipping between the world of the living and the world of dreams.
Like that, three months quickly flew by…
It was on a day like any other that a large group of cultivators appeared at the edge of the Devastation Woods. They glimpsed a huge, eerie tree in the distance, immediately realizing that this was the place.
"Many disciples from our Greenflame Sect have gone missing in this area, and we can almost be certain that it's because of that tree."
A bulky man with a cultivation in the Marrow Refinement Realm spoke with a grave and husky tone. He was Gu Gong, the Lineage Disciple most likely to succeed the previous Sect Leader.
"But since disciples of the Hundred-eyed Sect have also gone missing here in the past half-year, we the Greenflame Sect won't be the only ones making a preemptive move against this unknown magical tree."
Gu Gong looked at all the Hundred-eyed Sect disciples that were mixed in with the Greenflame Sect disciples. However, no matter which faction they came from, their thoughts were aligned when it came to facing this anomaly head-on.
"Han Jing," Gu Gong said to a Hundred-eyed Sect disciple in possession of an aura just as powerful as his own. "What do you think of splitting into two groups? You take half the disciples and flank from the north side, while I take the other half and flank the front-facing side."
Han Jing was not one to go along with what others told him to do. But seeing as how the number of Sect Contribution Points for completing this mission was a whole lot, he agreed to the proposal.
"Good, then let's go over the plan once more before commencing operations."
Little did Han Jing and Gu Gong know that while they were discussing the contents of their plan, a few of their very own party members had already switched sides with the enemy. Even at this very moment, they were transmitting mental messages to the enormous tree deep in slumber.
— Not long after —
Abruptly opening his scarily carved eyes, Necro turned his orb head in the direction of the now split-up group of 50 or so cultivators.
'Over these past few months, there have been more and more disciples of the Hundred-eyed and Greenflame Sect appearing in my territory,' he thought coldly. 'One would think that they'd catch the hint and stop throwing themselves into the fire. But no; they'd rather continue adding kindle to my strength.'
'They're such foolish creatures.'
If Bai Ning hadn't just returned to the Greenflame Sect after making a breakthrough to the Marrow Refinement Stage, Necro would've had her deter them with words. But since that was not the case, he'd just have to exterminate the pests the old-fashioned way.
"Bring the two strongest among them back to me," he commanded in a tone bereft of emotion. "Kill the rest."
FWIP! FWIP!
Several tall shadows vanished, carrying with them auras that nearly exceeded the limits of the Body Refinement Realm.
"They always seek death," said Necro as he closed his eyes, patiently waiting for the conclusion of these events. "A bunch of fools."
Some time later…
Necro opened his indifferent eyes, only to see two bloodied and battered men gasping for air at the base of his trunk. Standing over them were three shadowy figures over nine feet tall, each possessing a terrifying aura that made Gu Gong and Han Jing feel the urge to piss themselves.
That urge worsened by an unimaginable degree when their heads were forced upward and they witnessed the horrifying eldritch entity looming over them like a God of Death.
"W-What do you plan to do with us…!?"
They hadn't been able to feel it before, but now that they were so close to him, they could sense it. A primordial strength that exceeded the Body Refinement Realm.
'Even the Sect Leader and Grand Elders are not so stiflingly powerful!!'
By this point, Gu Gong and Han Jing could barely formulate a thought, let alone make use of their lips and vocal cords to speak.
"Tell me, humans." The gravely, archaic voice of the huge tree struck the Lineage Disciples awake. "Are you willing to submit?
"Or… will you choose to die?"
KAAAA!
The three Soldiers standing over the two humans emitted a deathly purple glow as they pressured them to the dirt with their overwhelming auras.
"P-Please spare us, Great Tree…!" they begged while being flattened by a force of gravity that nearly took all the oxygen out of their lungs. "We-We'll submit!!"
With the threat of certain death hanging over their fates, they made the only decision they could.
Necro had his Shadow Tree Soldiers disperse their auras. He then stared intently at the growling humans gasping for air at his base.
Gu Gong and Han Jing felt like at any given moment they'd simply drop over dead, with their continual survival all dependent on the mood of the terrifying entity before them.
But as if that were all an illusion, the bad premonitions faded, and the giant gothic tree said, "Good choice. Now don't resist what's about to happen to you."
"U-Understood, Great Tree!!"
Whatever Gu Gong and Han Jing were expecting, they hadn't anticipated that an unknown droplet of purplish liquid would fall on them. Unlike the others who were affected by the |Control Essence|, these two could vividly feel it trying to take control of their motor functions.
Instinctually, they resisted this takeover of mind and body. However, when Necro's chilly glare fell on them, they immediately stopped resisting.
And just like that, their eyes turned misty, with their free will seemingly taking a vacation.
"The more powerful the one I'm trying to control, the more opportunity they'll have to resist," said Necro as he had the two drone bees tell them everything they knew. He then let them return to their respective Sects.
"I should be more meticulous in the future when it pertains to the verification of control for those who get hit by |Control Essence|."
Only that way could he be sure that none of his slaves would betray him later down the line.
"Now that I'm finished with that small matter, I should return to idling," Necro declared as he closed his hollow crystalized eyes, increasing his synergy with the natural qualities around him. "An Evolution to Rank 6 is still a long while away, and I'd prefer not to be awake during the grinding process."
