Chapter 4: 4-How Did You Know I Defeated the Boss?

---

Having just returned to the real world, Su Mo saw the large crowd of people around him. He froze for a moment before speaking:

"Is everyone here to tackle the instance?"

But no one responded to his words. Instead, they all stared at him intently.

At this point, Su Mo seemed to sense that something was off with the atmosphere. He quickly tried to come up with an excuse to slip away.

Before he could open his mouth, however, the two trial secret realm guardians standing beside him spoke up with dark expressions:

"What's your name? Which class are you in? Who's your homeroom teacher?"

"Huh? You guys already know I defeated the Goblin King that fast? But even if I beat the Goblin King, do you still need to ask about my homeroom teacher?"

The moment Su Mo said this, the faces of the two guardians—who had been about to interrogate him thoroughly—darkened even further.

They didn't believe a word of Su Mo's claim about defeating the Goblin King.

And it wasn't just them. The surrounding students also cast disdainful looks his way.

This was the Goblin King they were talking about! How many years had it been since anyone at this school claimed to have defeated it?

The most recent recorded victory over the Goblin King was 30 years ago.

Back then, it had taken a team of seven: two high-level damage-dealing professions and two awakeners with powerful offensive abilities.

Even so, they had paid a heavy price—three of them were gravely injured—just to barely bring down the Goblin King.

Yet that group of seven had still gone down in the school's history books.

Their names were written into textbooks, becoming idols for countless younger students who came after them.

Now, 30 years later, every surviving member of that team had become a big shot.

And this guy—what did he just say?

He defeated the Goblin King? Alone? If that wasn't a joke, what was?

Before the two guardians could respond, the nearby students had already kicked into full-on mockery mode.

"You? You defeated the Goblin King? With what, your defensive profession?"

"Don't talk nonsense. He hasn't even awakened a profession—he's just an ability awakener, and a defensive one at that!"

"Yeah, with a defensive ability? What did you use to kill the Goblin King—your kitchen knife?"

"Look at that blade in your hand. You're holding it so casually—don't tell me it's made of foam just for show!"

"Hey, don't be so harsh on him. What if he really did kill the Goblin King? Like, maybe he used his thick skin to make it laugh to death!"

"That makes sense! A defensive ability awakener is truly something else—killing the Goblin King with his shamelessness. Impressive!"

"He's not in the school's hall of fame? Then I'm not reading it!"

…

Listening to the chatter and taunts from the surrounding students, Su Mo asked himself: he didn't even know most of these people, let alone offend them.

So why were they harboring such deep hostility toward him?

Of course, these people mocking Su Mo weren't doing it without reason.

Some of them were teammates of Zhang Qi.

Others wanted to join Zhang Qi's team or even curry favor with him but never got the chance.

And Su Mo? Zhang Qi had personally invited him earlier, and he had flat-out refused.

An opportunity they could only dream of, and Su Mo rejected it without a second thought.

The disparity was clear as day.

Whether it was talent or academic performance, they weren't on the same level as Su Mo.

And the fastest way to bridge that gap? Drag him down. Only then could they feel a shred of satisfaction.

At that moment, Zhang Qi slowly stepped out from the crowd, a faint, mocking smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

"Su Mo, what did you just say? You defeated the Goblin King? That's incredible!

I hear the Goblin King is a bronze-tier boss, and defeating it drops a treasure chest. I wonder what goodies you got from it?

Why not let us take a look?"

Like everyone else, Zhang Qi scoffed at Su Mo's words, but his comment carried a venomous edge meant to cut deep.

The two indoor secret realm guardians frowned at the surrounding students' commotion, about to snap at them to shut up.

But then Su Mo's lips curled into a slight smirk as he said, "Sure, why not? I don't even know what these two items are for—take a look yourselves."

"Hahaha, that's hilarious…"

The others were just about to jeer again when Su Mo pulled out a still-beating, vivid red heart and a bronze-colored spiked club.

He opened the items' information permissions, displaying them for all to see:

[Goblin King's Heart: Perhaps it can be used as material for some kind of potion.]

[Goblin King's Spiked Club: +3 Strength when equipped, +2 Berserk.]

In an instant, the entire trial secret realm fell silent.

Even the two guardians standing beside him gaped, their faces filled with disbelief.

One of the guardians' lips trembled slightly, his voice quivering as he spoke:

"This… How is this possible? Did you really kill the Goblin King all by yourself?!"

Su Mo didn't look up, simply replying in a calm tone, "Isn't that obvious enough?"

Meanwhile, Zhang Qi—who had been all calm and smug moments ago—now looked deranged, muttering incessantly:

"No way, this can't be real. Absolutely impossible. You're just a defensive ability awakener—how could you possibly kill the Goblin King?!

I don't believe it. I refuse to believe it! Teacher, I'm reporting him for cheating!"

**Boom!**

One of the guardians stomped his foot, and a terrifying silver-white aura burst from his body, causing the entire secret realm hall to tremble faintly.

"Shut up!"

His roar silenced the previously noisy hall so thoroughly you could hear a pin drop.

Every student's face paled—they hadn't expected this guardian to be a silver-tier powerhouse above level 40. Truly terrifying.

Once the noise finally died down, the guardian turned his gaze back to Su Mo.

His eyes now carried a scrutinizing intensity. "I'll ask you once more, and you'd better answer honestly: Did you truly kill the Goblin King alone?!"

Su Mo met the guardian's piercing stare without a hint of fear.

Sure, he might not be able to beat this guy, but the guardian couldn't do anything to him either. Absolute Defense was just that overpowered.

With an ability like that, why should he care about anyone's opinion?

If this guy were someone like Teacher Wang, who had treated him well, he might've given him some respect.

But this person? Su Mo wasn't buying into his authority one bit.

Locking eyes with the guardian's scrutinizing gaze, Su Mo replied nonchalantly:

"Yeah, isn't it obvious enough? Or do you think I picked these up off the side of the road?"

**Boom!**

The silver-white aura erupted again, pressing down on Su Mo with crushing force. "I'm asking you to answer seriously!"
