Chapter 116: Lily (6)
"...but I can't give you any sympathy. However, I can certainly grant your wish. Ask. I will answer three questions."
Then Adam opens his mouth and says, "First question. Why are you after Sophia?"
After hearing this, Philips lowers his gun and says, "The day I first saw Sophia, I genuinely felt that she was the girl with whom I could live a normal life. I wanted to leave this underworld and this psycho personality behind. But as soon as I talked to Sophia about it..." After saying this, he places a hand on his cheek and continues,
"...I didn't like her answer. That's why I adopted other methods to 'fix' Sophia, and also to put pressure on her family. But I don't know where you came into the middle of it. I was the one who sent these people after Sophia."
After saying this, he pulls Lily's phone from his pocket and throwing it in front of Adam, he says, "This is all my doing. I wanted to break Sophia mentally and make her dependent on me. But I don't know how at a very wrong time, you dropped right into the middle of my plan. I thought it was no big deal, that you were just a guest for a couple of days. But when you kept surviving for many days, even with such a big bounty on your head, that's when I felt that things were getting out of hand."
Adam had gotten his answer, and he understood many things.
Then looking towards Adam, Philips says, "You have the answer to your first question."
Philips turned his attention from Anderson back to Adam.
"My second question," Adam said his voice calm and steady. "How many big families are there in the world and especially in our country and this city?"
Philips was surprised by the question. He was silent for a few seconds then he laughed.
"You're asking questions as if you're confident you'll get out of here alive," he said.
"As if you'll use this knowledge against us. But let me shatter that hope for you. Even if ten armed men were to come here not a single one would leave alive. This is a small farmhouse belonging to one of the big families that operates in the underworld."
Adam was not surprised. "I already knew that," he said. "And I know I'm not getting out of here alive. It's just my curiosity before I die."
Philips let out a long slow breath. "There are 80 big underworld families in the world," he said. "Seven of them are Royal Families. We are one of those 80 families. The Royal Families are the ones who killed your parents. We only know of one Royal Family. The others remain hidden. We wouldn't know them even if they were standing right in front of us."
Before Adam could say anything Philips continued.
"And I know what you're going to ask next. I don't know which Royal Family killed your parents. But I do know that one of them resides in our country. I don't know where. And as for your other question there are five families in our contact in this country. The Royal Families give their orders through their pet hounds. But I do know that the heads of the 80 families like my grandfather and soon my father know about the real people in the Royal Families. And no family other than mine lives in this city."
Adam was absorbing all this new information his mind a whirlwind of thoughts and calculations.
"I don't have much time," Philips said. "If you don't have a third question I'll punch your ticket now." He raised his pistol again.
Adam looked at him. "My last question," he said. "Why were my parents killed? And do you know who they were? I'm not asking about the family. I'm asking about the people who killed my parents."
Philips lowered his gun. "Why do I feel like I'm giving you important information that you'll use against me?" he said. He then raised his hands in a mock surrender. "But I doubt you'll be able to do anything with it since you're not leaving here alive."
He looked at Adam. "To answer your first question I don't know why your parents were killed. My father might know. I'm not privy to the affairs of the Royal Families. As for your second question I do know the name of the group that killed your parents. They're a very famous group in the underworld. In fact they're after you too now that they know you're their son. Their name is 'The Ghost'. They mostly carry out missions for the Royal Families. But I was surprised when I heard they had killed your parents. From what I know your parents were not important enough to warrant their attention. I don't understand why they were killed."
Philips was confused.
Adam repeated the name in his mind over and over again. The Ghost group. I'm coming for you.
Now that Adam has found his target, whom he will not abandon under any circumstances, he is aware of what he must do. At first, he believed that he would simply go from this location and kill all of these individuals one by one.
However, Adam is relieved that he did not take such a step and instead waited, and now what he desired is standing in front of him.
He looked at Philips. "Thank you," he said. "You can kill me now."
Philips was surprised. "I thought you were trying to trick me," he said. "Buying time to use some kind of trick to escape."
He raised his pistol again. "But I guess it was just my imagination," he said.
He pulled the trigger. A single bullet shot out from the barrel and struck Adam in the forehead. His Iron Skin had been weakened by the earlier beating.
And the gun Philips was using was a premium high-caliber weapon. The bullet passed straight through his skull.
Adam was dead.
