Chapter 114: Meeting the Leader
Benson turned over and stared at the head of the council.
The head of the council quickly raised his hands into the air, showing that he wasn't trying anything funny.
He wasn't about to be apprehended by Benson with force.
"Thank you, Dr. Uwe."
After assistant Sherry was done, she thanked Dr. Uwe and glanced over at the head of the council.
"I think you know what to do next.
"The Leader wants you to revoke their wanted status." She said and motioned her arms at Lukas and the others.
"Keep quiet about Peter Lim and the Governor.
"There will be investigations on them soon.
"In the meantime, you, the head of the council and Secretary Lawrence shall be under the custody and investigation of officer Benson."
"Assistant Sherry... but..." The head of the council wanted to protest but he resigned to his fate.
"No way. I want to see the Leader! This is blasphemy!" Secretary Lawrence, on the other hand, wasn't about to go down without a fight.
He tried to grab onto Benson's neck but missed.
Benson, as an awakened, was much faster and stronger than he was.
Thud.
As Benson dodged backwards, he raised his leg and gave Secretary Lawrence a side kick.
The kick landed on Secretary Lawrence's ribcage on the side, and it sent him tumbling through the council hall.
Secretary Lawrence lay unconscious on the ground as guards rushed in and pointed their weapons at him and the head of the council.
The head of the council issued an order, absolving Lukas and the others of their wanted status.
After that both the head of the council and Secretary Lawrence were taken away by Benson's men.
Everyone felt a sense of relief now that they had cleared their names.
"I knew I could always count on you." Rodney said and placed his hands on Benson's shoulder.
Benson squirmed and brushed his hands off his shoulder.
"You should know I hate it when someone does that." Benson said as he took out his handkerchief and wiped his shoulder.
"Some things never change, huh." Rodney shook his head and said.
He then glanced at Secretary Hanselman as he had some scores to settle with him.
"Secretary Hanselman, I suppose you aren't with them?" Rodney asked.
"Me? No... how is that possible." Secretary Hanselman's face jiggled as he spoke and tried to stay calm.
He could feel assistant Sherry's eyes staring at him.
"You know, I think my accountant made a mistake. I will get back to you on the rebuilding fund immediately when I get back." Secretary Hanselman said and gave a few smiles to Rodney.
After witnessing what happened to the head of the council and Secretary Lawrence, he wasn't about to join them.
Rodney nodded as he got what he wanted.
Assistant Sherry then stood in front of Lukas and the others.
"The leader would like to invite you to his residence." She said.
Lukas glanced over at the other team members.
They were just as surprised as he was.
"It would be our honor." Riley pondered for a moment, nodded and said.
Lukas and the other team members had no objections.
Rex started trying to tidy himself, tucking in his shirt, brushing his hair.
This time Emma didn't taunt him and joined in.
"Don't worry too much. The Leader isn't someone particular about small matters." Assistant Sherry said when she saw what they were doing.
"Come with me." She led them out of the council hall and cars were already waiting for them outside.
Lukas and the others got into the cars, and they set off for the Leader's Residence.
The Leader's Residence wasn't too far away from the Leader's Council building.
It took them just a few minutes to arrive.
Lukas got out of the car and was surprised that the Leader's Residence was a modest-looking home.
It wasn't big and was painted in the familiar shade of gray, present in most of the buildings in the Center Battle Administration Area.
When they entered the residence, it was cozy and not overly lavish.
A young man was seated on a soft red sofa in the living room, with a cup of red wine in his hand.
Lukas could feel his senses telling him to prepare to fight when the young man glanced over at him with eyes like an eagle.
"I've brought them here." Assistant Sherry said and she proceeded to the kitchen to make some refreshments for them.
"Have a seat." The Leader gestured to the team.
Everyone except Benson was astonished that the Leader looked so young.
"I've heard about what you've done, fighting for the South Battle Administration Area." The Leader said.
"It was our duty to do so." Rodney quickly replied.
Riley and the others nodded.
Lukas was subtly looking at the surroundings, trying to figure out more about the Leader.
Many items in the residence looked like antiques and were dated.
The Leader must have been a collector of antiques, he thought.
His eyes finally chanced upon a photo framed on the wall.
He barely made out who was in the photo, and right in the center, he saw the Leader's face, giving out a huge smile.
Glancing at the other faces in the photo, he couldn't recognize any of them.
But he couldn't believe it when he saw a familiar face at the furthest end.
Athena.
He glanced over at the Leader and back to the photo.
Either the Leader was a descendant of the person in the photo or the Leader himself was an antique.
Living through the years and looking the same.
The Leader, who was chatting with Rodney and the others, stopped his smile and glanced over at Lukas.
Lukas nodded at the Leader, pretending nothing had happened.
But the Leader didn't stop his gaze on him.
After he stood up, the Leader walked over to Lukas.
"As for you. I've heard a lot about you."
He said and patted Lukas on his back.
Suddenly, Lukas' vision went blank and all he could see was darkness all around him.
Everyone was gone and he wasn't in the residence.
A beam of light appeared out of nowhere and shone down onto a figure.
It was the Leader.
Step.
The Leader took a step towards Lukas.
