Chapter 113: Sherry Abel
"Chairman of the council, I suppose you have evidence of the so-called 'extortion' by Dr. Uwe?
"Or perhaps maybe evidence that points to them knowing each other?"
Lukas refuted, and the chairman of the council was stumped by what he said.
The chairman of the council glanced over at Secretary Lawrence.
Secretary Lawrence was also lost for words.
His face flustered while his eyes darted to the left and right. Beads of sweat started to gather on his forehead.
After a few moments of pondering, Secretary Lawrence pointed at Lukas and said, "We... We will find the evidence in due time, and meanwhile, fugitives like you should be locked up and face the consequences."
"Time for you to make up the so-called evidence, I suppose?
"Doing a search for Peter Lim and Dr. Uwe would show the obvious.
"There are no results showing any relationship between them." Lukas didn't waver and said.
"You..." Secretary Lawrence was flabbergasted, and he glanced over at the chairman of the council for support.
The chairman of the council shook his head as he couldn't think of anything else at the moment.
It wasn't good enough for Secretary Lawrence.
"Chairman of the council, I must remind you that Peter Lim has been more than generous donating to the funds for so many charity and relief funds.
"It would be a shame that such an outstanding citizen of the West Battle Administration Area would be framed and put behind bars."
Secretary Lawrence said and gave a subtle threat to the chairman of the council.
Secretary Hanselman frowned as he was also in the gravy train, siphoning off the so-called relief funds and using them to profit from the rebuilding effort.
The subtle threat from Secretary Lawrence worked.
The chairman of the council announced, "Due to conflicting evidence and statements from both parties, I hereby decide that these alleged fugitives be put behind bars while investigations are being carried out.
"Every false accusation shall not be forgotten when the investigations conclude."
It was then time for Benson to stand up and play his ace card.
"I object, chairman of the council." He said and glanced over at Secretary Lawrence, "I've got someone who can help to verify the validity of Dr. Uwe's statement."
The chairman of the council swallowed a mouthful of saliva as he knew what that meant.
Secretary Lawrence knew it was all over for him.
There was only one person who could do what Benson had said.
The assistant to the Leader, Sherry Abel, the only person in Center Battle Administration with SSS Level Cognitive Dominion ability.
She could verify easily from Dr. Uwe's mind whether he was lying.
And the chairman of the council and Secretary Lawrence wouldn't dare to accuse her of being in cahoots with Benson.
It would mean going against the Leader himself.
Worse of all, it also meant that Benson now had the support from the Leader.
Benson had been a nuisance to them for a very long time. Trying to revamp the judicial and stop corruption.
The Leader had been hands-off the daily operations for a very long time, due to him needing plenty of rest time.
Both the chairman of council and Secretary Lawrence wouldn't want this arrangement to be broken.
But with this, it meant that the Leader thought it was time for a change.
Thoughts raced through their minds, but nothing came up.
It was a total blank for them.
Fear and anxiety had gotten to them.
Clonk.
Their hearts sank when they heard the sound of high heels echoed in the corridor outside the council hall.
It got louder and the door to the council was opened.
A lady in her thirties, wearing a black skirt and white blouse entered the council hall.
Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and her sharp eyes behind her spectacles stared at the chairman of the council.
"Assistant Sherry, what brings you here." The chairman of the council said and gave her an awkward smile.
Sherry, on the other hand, wasn't in such a mood.
"Cut the formalities. I'm here under the instructions from the Leader, to assist officer Benson."
Her reply confirmed the chairman of the council's speculation, and he nearly slumped from his seat.
It took him much effort to steady himself.
"Nice to meet you, Dr. Uwe."
Assistant Sherry walked over to Dr. Uwe and greeted him.
"It wouldn't take too long but bear with it. Try not to resist so that it would be easier on you." She said and Dr. Uwe nodded his head.
He was eager to clear everyone's name and let the truth be known.
Never in his mind had there been someone so shameless like the chairman of the council and Secretary Lawrence.
It was an eye opener for him.
Sherry placed her hands on Dr. Uwe's head and closed her eyes.
A brown glow appeared from her hands, and it darted into Dr. Uwe's head.
Imageries of what appeared like holograms appeared in front of her.
It showed how Dr. Uwe was abducted from his place, then Peter Lim appeared. Forcing Dr. Uwe to help with some research.
Then the Shadow Lotus members appeared.
Ahen, Leeroy and Risa were there with Peter Lim in the room.
Next, Lukas and the other members appeared to help rescue Dr. Uwe from Peter Lim and the Shadow Lotus.
The chairman of the council and Secretary Lawrence's mouths opened wide as they had no excuses now.
Secretary Lawrence secretly took out his phone, trying to message Peter Lim and the Governor of the West Battle Administration Area.
To his horror, he realized that he couldn't move his hands when he wanted to click on the 'send' button.
His hands involuntarily placed the phone onto the desk in front of him.
Someone was controlling his hands.
He glanced over at assistant Sherry, thinking that it might be her.
But it wasn't as she was focused on going through Dr. Uwe's memories.
Lukas had used his shadow wielder ability to do so.
He pointed at Secretary Lawrence and said, "He is trying to inform Peter Lim."
He had been focused on what the chairman of the council and Secretary Lawrence were doing all along with his enhanced eyesight and hearing.
Benson walked over and picked up the phone and glanced at the message.
