Chapter 485: Darkness Descends_2
Kurosawa Tsuyoshi nodded thoughtfully, raising his head as if about to speak, but suddenly his back tensed slightly, and a chill ran through him.
The sensation was so subtle that if Yan Junze hadn't previously warned him, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi would not have thought it out of the ordinary and likely would have dismissed it as nothing.
But now, things were different. The slight chill along his spine immediately put him on alert, and he quickly turned his head to look at the darkness behind him.
The light rain outside the house had gradually stopped, but the sky hadn't brightened. As it was already near dusk, the horizon was tinged with a faint yellow glow of the setting sun, leaving the space under the eaves in growing darkness.
All of a sudden, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi's eyes sharpened, his expression turning to shock, and he spun around, thrusting both palms forward with a swift motion.
At the same moment, a magnetic net rapidly formed between his palms and in the space ahead. Visible to the naked eye, the net distorted the space before him, as if trying to block something from the invading darkness.
However, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi quickly realized it was futile. The darkness, like an unstoppable tide, continued surging toward him.
He immediately stepped back, transforming the magnetic distortion into a magnetic field storm, which he hurled toward the surging darkness.
The powerful storm seemed almost solid, producing a loud "boom" as it clashed with the dark space.
Yet, in just an instant, the storm pierced through the darkness, slamming into the area near the bathroom door and the path leading to the storage room. The impact caused intense vibrations but did nothing to halt the darkness.
This darkness appeared entirely untouchable.
Kurosawa Tsuyoshi was startled. He took a step back into the yard, out from under the eaves, and with a splash, his feet landed in the water and mud on the rain-soaked grass.
Stepping away from the darkness under the eaves, he watched as the roiling tide of darkness churned violently for a moment before abruptly vanishing.
Yan Junze, who had been standing beside Kurosawa Tsuyoshi the entire time, had witnessed him recognizing something was wrong, clashing with the darkness, and then retreating in near panic to the safety of the yard.
Throughout this encounter, the darkness seemed intent only on Kurosawa Tsuyoshi. Even though Yan Junze stood close by, it completely ignored him.
When the darkness failed to attack Kurosawa Tsuyoshi standing in the yard, it receded and disappeared entirely.
Hearing the noise of the magnetic field storm, Daisuke Kitahara and the still-grieving Ito Yuko emerged from the storage room. They saw Kurosawa Tsuyoshi standing in the yard, looking noticeably disheveled and visibly shaken.
At that moment, facing the void-like darkness, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi felt utterly powerless. As a Reaper, it had been a very, very long time since he'd experienced such a feeling.
Yan Junze's eyes gleamed faintly as he spoke: "Mister Reaper, you must be vigilant against the darkness. It's possible that within it exists something specifically targeting you, so you must avoid places engulfed in shadow."
Kurosawa Tsuyoshi thought for a moment and nodded slightly, then gave a bitter smile: "It's almost nightfall now. How can I possibly avoid the dark?"
He tilted his head back to look at the setting sun, which was slowly disappearing below the horizon, leaving less and less light.
Yan Junze turned to Daisuke Kitahara and said, "Mr. Kitahara, please conduct a thorough inspection of all the electrical systems in this house. Ensure power is restored before nightfall. This concerns your master's life. Everything else can wait for now."
Kurosawa Tsuyoshi's face flushed slightly in embarrassment as he translated truthfully.
Yan Junze then turned to Ito Yuko and gave a slight bow. "My apologies, Miss Ito. The situation is urgent, and we will have to delay handling Eki-kun's body for a little while longer."
The earlier commotion had left Yuko visibly rattled. She said nothing, merely nodded, and returned to the storage room to keep watch over Junichi Eki's body.
When the freezer was discovered earlier, it had caused the wiring in the house to short out, though the specific issue remained unknown. If the problem wasn't too severe, it might simply require replacing a fuse.
Daisuke Kitahara immediately began tracing the electrical lines to locate the issue.
Luckily, the Multi-limbed Being had already been dealt with, and with the heavy-duty freezer shut off, once the wiring was fixed, the unstable voltage and flickering lights would not return.
Yan Junze said to Kurosawa Tsuyoshi, "If Mr. Kitahara can't resolve the electricity problem before dark, I suggest you head into town now. Find any shop to stay in, stock up on flashlights, or even book a hotel room."
Kurosawa Tsuyoshi nodded, still shaken.
The rain had stopped for quite some time, but Yan Junze paid little mind to the dirt that would stain his shoes as he stood with Kurosawa Tsuyoshi on the grass.
The sky grew darker, and before long, only the faintest traces of sunlight remained on the horizon.
Yan Junze turned his head to glance at Kurosawa Tsuyoshi. Just as they were about to speak, the lights in the house suddenly flickered on.
Daisuke Kitahara's voice came from somewhere inside, "Master, it's fixed! Hurry back in!"
Without hesitation, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi rushed in with Yan Junze. The corridor lights were all turned on by Daisuke Kitahara, illuminating the space brightly, and the three of them quickly gathered in the tea room.
That night, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi decided not to go anywhere. He stayed put with the lights on, waiting for dawn.
As Daisuke Kitahara was about to return to the storage room to assist Ito Yuko, Kurosawa Tsuyoshi called him back.
Kurosawa Tsuyoshi first bowed to Yan Junze and said, "I misjudged you earlier, and I deeply apologize! Now that the True Word Demon has emerged, it seems the situation is far more complicated. Time is of the essence. I will have my disciple escort you immediately to see Akira Kamiya, the God of Death. Rest assured, the Nether Bakufu will certainly cooperate with the Huaying Exorcism General Team!"
