Chapter 639: 59
Ardent looked at the new Mages with a smile. After undergoing the tutelage of Merith, they have grown leap and bound.
'Though, Catlin still the most talented.' the blonde girl had become a 4th Circle Mage in the span of a month, though it was mostly because of the practice she had done in the dungeon.
Still, it earn her both the praise and envy of Merith, the 4th Circle Mage clearly wanting to delve into the dungeon to receive the same gain as Catlin.
'I better not let him do that. At least not now. Better when I become a 6th Circle Mage or at least strong enough to handle him should he become a 5th Circle Mage.' Ardent thought.

Merith looked at the girl with envy. Even with the resources of Cruom City, it took him a long time to become a 4th Circle Mage while this girl manage to do so in 2 years of Magic Study.
'She's the most talented person I have ever seen.' the only one probably as talented, aside from the King, would be his daughter.
'Then again, she will be his consort. So it make sense.' the thought of the King's consort quickly planted it seed into his head. After all, he has a daughter. While his daughter is on the older side, only just entering her twenties, she would be a good consort. If not, a concubine.
'I will have to see it through.' being the consort of the new King would increase the status of his family as well as ensure the safety of his daughter.

Not knowing of the plan forming in the older man's head, Ardent was busy forming his own plan.
'Tomorrow, I will assault Cruom City, and offer them a chance to surrender. If not,' Cruom City is a great recruitment area, but if push come to shove, he will need to put some example. Grulnar would definitely be the one use, though he will include the City Lord as well if he did not do the sensible thing and surrender.
With the plan ready to be executed, Ardent decided to retire for the night. Of course, he would be sleeping with Catlin, the blonde girl not planning on letting him go for the night.

In Cruom City, activities had gone as usual. Being one of the hegemon of the region, they stood as one of the safest place to do trade. After all, no one with enough power would even glance at the far away region like theirs and those who did, did not have the forces necessary to even subdue a single Main City, much less eight of them.
However, it soon changed as earthquakes rock the City, sending the people into panic. Few seconds later, the Earth Mages of the City took action. Sending pulse of Mana to the ground, they tried their best to stabilize the earth, stopping the incessant shaking. Enjoy more content from My Virtual Library Empire
However, even the 4th Circle Earth Mage could barely do anything to stop the quake, the ground continue to tremble before finally stopping.
"Huh-huh, the ground had stop shaking!"
"Thank you Master Mage!"
"Thank you Master Mage!"
As the crowd cheer for the Mages, the said Mages exchanged uneasy glances. They knew their power, and they could not stop the earthquake. Meaning someone else did. That someone also likely to be the one that cause it in the first place.
"Things are not simple. Be pre-" whatever the 4th Circle Mage was about to say did not get out of their mouth, on the account of a single hurricane swirling menacingly just outside the city.
The shout of gratitude also silenced by the hurricane, as all the Mages of the City quickly head to the south wall, where the hurricane where at.
"What is happening?!"
"A cataclysm is upon us!"
"Let's run!"
Panic filled the air as the people moved as far as they could from the south wall. The Mages did not blame them. If they could, they would have join them. In fact, they might be the one at the very front. It was at this time they wished they were civilians or at least regular guards. At least they did not have to fight a disaster such as this one.
"Get ready. We will cast out strongest spell to destroy the hurricane." the oldest 4th Circle Mage and the unofficial leader told the other Mages. They nodded in agreement, slowly gathering Mana to cast their strongest spells.
The hurricane continue to not move, fueling the unease in the heart of the Magees. However, they did not have any choice but hope their attempt will work.
An hour of gathering Mana, the Mages of Cruom City, no matter their Circle, unleashed their strongest attack. From a measly Firebolt, to a Grand Fireball, spells after spells rained down on the hurricane.
However, just as the spells were about to hit the hurricane, a small, nearly imperceptible barrier appear around it. The barrier blocked the attack, stopping it without suffering even a single crack.
Seeing their strongest attack blocked, the Mages fell into despair. Some even kneel down, unable to comprehend how some of the strongest people in the region unable to even harm a single hurricane.
While weaker Mages were shaken, their morale almost nonexistent, the 4th Circle Mages manage to see what others could not.
"There is a barrier blocking our attack." one of them said, others affirming the statement with a nod.
"That mean there is a Mage behind the hurricane, and likely the earthquake." another followed.
"But why would such a powerful Mage attack our city?" another one questioned. "There are no reason for them to attack us."
The rest nodded, unable to find any good reason for the assault. As they continue their discussion, a figure emerged from the hurricane.
The 4th Circle Mages quickly turned their attention to the powerful presence, their eyes laid on him. Just as they did so, they wonder if they were drunk.
After all, how could the attacker of Cruom City could be a child not even in his twenties.
