How to Love a Night Fury how to train your dragon

Chapter 85: chapter 14

A month later, the construction of the new village was very close to completion. The tribe had come to a silent agreement to settle down on the new island and dub it as New Berk. The construction went by quickly thanks to the help of their dragons, but it still took some time to get all the buildings and details put together. At the pace they were going, the new village would be done in two weeks time.

As the tribe was going about the construction, one of the Vikings spotted Hiccup and another Night Fury circling around the plaza in their dragon forms.

"Hiccup's back!" They shouted and the villagers that were in the area cheered as they cleared a spot for the two Night Furies to land.

Hiccup saw them clear the area and smiled as he motioned to Revna as he went in to land. Revna nodded and followed suit, landing on New Berk beside her son-in-law.

Hiccup then transformed into his human form and smiled at Revna with his arms spread out. "Welcome to New Berk, Revna." He said cheerily.

The dragoness looked around the plaza and crooned in intrigue. " You were not joking when you said it was still in construction, young one. "

Hiccup laughed nervously as he rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeahhh. It's a slow process, even with the help of dragons. But hopefully we'll be able to get it done in a couple weeks or so. Time will tell."

Revna nodded in agreement as she continued to look around. She then transformed into her human form and smoothed out her clothing.

The woman looked similar to Kala for the most part, besides the fact that she was standing at the height of six feet and five inches, whereas her daughter stood at the height of five feet and eight inches. She was a very built woman as well, a result of the amount of decades she has been alive as well as from the training she would do with her late lover Lief, Kala's father.

Revna had long, flowing black hair that was a more raven color compared to her daughter's midnight locks. She also had the same pale skin that the young dragoness had, which was covered in scars from fights the woman had gotten herself into over the years.

Her attire was a simple blue dress made of a thick cloth that had a leather apron covering it, and a set of fur boots that matched her daughter's. Her hair was styled into a thick braid that was made up of many smaller ones, some rocks and crystals from Night Fury Isles decorating the braids. She also wore a necklace made up of the same rocks and crystals scattered throughout her hair.

"It is a wonderful island nonetheless, Hiccup. Now, where is my daughter?" Revna asked.

Hiccup smiled sadly and motioned for her to follow him. The two dragons trekked their way through the village as they made their way to Hiccup and Kala's new hut. But on their way, they ran into Valka.

"Oh! Hiccup! I had no idea you had returned. Who might this be?" Valka asked as she gave a kind smile to the elder Night Fury.

"Oh, um. Chieftess Valka, this is Revna. Kala's mother." Hiccup introduced, then he looked at Revna. "Revna, this is Valka, the chieftess of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. And...my mother."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Revna. Welcome to New Berk." Valka said as she offered her hand to the woman.

Revna smiled and shook her hand. "The pleasure is mine, Valka."

"Please, make yourself at home. It may not look like much now, but it's home. How long will you be staying?" Valka asked as she clasped her hands together.

"However long my daughter needs me for." Revna said with a sad smile.

Valka gave a sad smile of her own and nodded. "Well, feel free to come to me if you need anything. I'm always willing to help."

Revna nodded and smiled. "Thank you, chieftess. I'll keep that in mind."

Valka nodded again and rested a hand on Hiccup's shoulder as she left.

Revna then looked at Hiccup with a knowing look, which he returned with a confused one.

"What?" He asked.

"Is there a reason you have not forgiven her, young one? Or are you just uncomfortable with accepting her as your mother?" Revna asked with a raised brow, a hand on her hip.

Hiccup sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he looked away from his mother-in-law. "I don't know..both? It's complicated. I thought she was dead up until Kala and I ran into her three years ago. H-how am I supposed to react to that? Be overjoyed and welcome her back with open arms? She doesn't deserve to be called Mom. She wasn't ever there for me like a mother should be."

Revna smiled softly and rested a hand on her son-in-law's shoulder. "I understand. But, don't let that grudge put a drift between the two of you. Just because you do not see her as your mother, doesn't mean you have to have a bad relationship with her."

Hiccup looked at her and smiled sadly, nodding in understanding. Revna smiled back and nodded. Hiccup then went back to walking, pointing out certain things in the village to Revna as they went. Revna just listened to him with a soft smile as she looked around, taking in everything while also preparing herself for seeing her daughter.

Revna was quite surprised when Hiccup showed up at Night Fury Isles alone. He seemed drained of energy when he got there, as though he had lost everything near and dear to him. When she had asked why Kala was not with him, tears began to fall from the young dragon's eyes as he told her about the miscarriage. Revna had been shocked into silence as she comforted her son-in-law, trying to grasp the news of her children losing their own hatchling before they could even welcome it into the world. It was then that she decided that being with her children was more important than keeping a dying island afloat.

The elder dragoness broke out of her thoughts as Hiccup came to a stop in front of a door to a hut. She then realized they had arrived at her children's home and smiled softly as she took in the design. It wasn't a big place, but it was very unique compared to the huts that they had passed by on their way there. It had a decent sized porch that had railing surrounding it and the supports for the roof and walls had Night Fury designs covering them. If Revna had to guess, they based it off of both the hut on Old Berk and the hut they made for themselves on Dragon's Edge. But she would never know for sure since she had never seen what those ones truly looked like for herself.

"My, my. Did you make this yourself?" Revna asked as she ran her hand across some of the porch railing then looked at her son-in-law to see a light blush dusting his cheeks.

"M-mostly, yeah. I had some help from the others, but the design was all me. What do you think?" He asked sheepishly.

"It suits the two of you very well." She said with a smile.

Hiccup smiled back and nodded as he opened the door and gestured for her to go inside. "After you."

Revna gave him a warm smile as she entered the hut and looked around the living room. It wasn't a large room, but it wasn't small either. There weren't many decorations quite yet, but the furniture was done. There were two sets of couches on either side of the room and on the far wall facing the door was a large fireplace instead of a hearth that had beautiful carvings that were Night Fury related decorating the framework.

On the left side of the living room was a set of stairs that led up to the second floor, where Revna assumed were all the bedrooms. There was also a door under the stairs that led to another section of the hut, but to what section Revna wasn't sure. And on the right side of the living room was an archway that led into the kitchen, which looked halfway done.

Revna turned her attention to Hiccup when he came inside and closed the door behind him.

"It's still a work in progress interior wise, but it's done for the most part. Well, besides our forge and the kitchen as well as decorations that is." Hiccup said as he rubbed his right arm.

"And where would the forge be?" Revna asked with a tilt of the head.

Hiccup smiled and pointed to the door underneath the stairs. "That door leads to it. It's both an indoor and outdoor forge. Kinda like the one you saw in the village on the way here, just, a personal one for inventions or tune-ups on our prosthetics and weapons."

Revna smiled. "Of course you two would have your own forge in your hut."

Hiccup gave her a sheepish smile. "Y-yeah. We didn't want to burden Gobber each time we wanted to use the forge anymore. So this was the best option."

"Well, I look forward to seeing it when it's finished, Hiccup." She said with a soft smile, which was returned with a kind one from her son-in-law.

Hiccup then shook his head to clear it and gestured to the stairs. "Kala's most likely upstairs in our room. It's the one directly down the hall when you get up there. If you need anything, I'll be down here working on finishing up the kitchen."

Revna nodded and gave him a quick hug before she made her way up the stairs. The elder dragoness noticed that there were five sets of doors on the second floor, one of which was at the end of the hall like Hiccup had said. There were two sets on either side of the hallway.

'Must be guest rooms or storage rooms for the time being.' Revna thought as she made her way down the hall and lightly knocked on the door to warn Kala she was entering.

When Revna opened the door to her children's room, she saw that Kala was lying on the bed that was in the middle of the room against the wall facing the door. She was lying on her side clutching the pillow underneath her head as she looked out the window on the left side of the room with blank eyes.

Before Revna broke the threshold of the room, she took in everything else that was there. The bedroom seemed to be the most finished out of all the rooms she had seen in the hut thus far. There was a desk that rested against the right wall in the corner closest to the door, a bookshelf rested beside the desk with a few journals already adorning it on the middle shelf, a wardrobe on the other side of the room facing the desk, and on either side of the bed were simple side tables with candles. The window had a set of thick curtains that reached the floor and were pulled open to let natural light in.

Revna smiled slightly as she made her way into the room, closing the door behind her as she made her way to the bed and sat on the edge as she brushed some hair out of her daughter's face.

"Hey my little starlight.."

Kala looked at her and her eyes widened as she slowly sat up, the blanket covering her falling into her lap. "Mom..?"

Revna smiled sadly and nodded as she lightly grasped her daughter's hand. "Yes, it's me my dear..Hiccup told me what happened.."

Kala teared up as she gripped her mother's hand, trying her best to not break down. "B-but what about the island..? W-won't it die without you there..?"

"Oh, my little starlight..you are more important than some old floating rock..you are my priority over anything else.." Revna said as she wiped away some tears that fell from Kala's eyes.

Kala's lip began to tremble as the tears flowed down her face and she buried her face in her mother's chest as she cried. Revna held her close as she rubbed her back in soothing circles.

Revna looked up and crooned in greeting as her daughter landed in the clearing she was resting in.

" Hello my little starlight. Where is your mate? " She asked as she tilted her head.

Kala smiled as she lay beside her mother and looked at the night sky above. " He wanted to explore the island some more. So I decided to come spend some time with you for the time being. "

Revna smiled and nuzzled her daughter, which earned a giggle from the young dragoness. They stayed there in comfortable silence for a while, but that was broken when Kala spoke.

" Hey Mom? How..how did you handle losing Dad? "

Revna looked at her with wide eyes. " What has brought this up my dear? "

Kala looked at her with tears in her draconic eyes and that's all Revna needed to understand. She smiled sadly and wrapped her daughter in her wing as she pulled her closer.

" It was very difficult. But, with life there comes the loss of loved ones. It's part of the deal. You cannot go through life without some form of loss my little starlight. All we can do is keep them in our hearts as we move forward and make the best of the time we have left. " Revna explained as she and Kala watched the Northern Lights dance above.
