How to Love a Night Fury how to train your dragon

Chapter 86: chapter 15

Two Months Later

Ruffnut smirked slightly as she dumped water onto Kala's head to rinse her hair out and the young dragoness screeched in surprise and jumped within the tub. She glared at the female Thorston as she shivered from the cold water.

"Why in Akatosh's name did you dump cold water on me?!" She asked as she tried to warm herself back up by sinking lower into the warm water.

"Uh, because it's tradition for the bride to wash in cold water? Duh." Ruffnut said with a giggle.

Kala grumbled and sank further into the tub, rubbing at her arms and legs to wash away any dirt that had collected upon her skin since her last washing.

"Ruff, stop messing with her already and help me finish the sewing will ya?" Heather asked, annoyed as she sewed together the black wolf fur cloak that would go with Kala's dress.

Ruffnut groaned and went over to Heather as she dropped the bucket and plopped down beside her, proceeding to help with the sewing reluctantly. "Ugh. Fine. Buzzkill."

Nanna shook her head with a smile as she focused on braiding together the snowdrops that would make up Kala's headpiece. Every once and a while she would add in a crystal from Night Fury Isles that Revna provided for the flower crown, being extra careful to not crack them or ruin the petals of the snowdrops as she went.

As the girls were working on Kala's accessories, Revna ran her hands over the white dress her daughter would wear with gentle care. She had a curious yet confused look upon her face as she looked it over then looked towards the girls.

"Why must my daughter wear this? Can she not wear normal attire?" She asked with her head tilted to the side, wanting to understand.

Nanna looked up and smiled warmly at the elder Night Fury. "It is tradition for the bride to wear a dress, but most wear red, yellow, green, or blue ones. It's very rare for a bride to wear a white dress like this one. White is a hard color to come by for most tribes." She explained calmly before she went back to making the flower crown.

Revna looked back over the dress and smiled a bit. It was a very simple dress, but still looked very fancy nonetheless. It was floor length with long sleeves that had gold bands that would go around Kala's wrists. There was a off-white fabric that showed in the center of the dress that made it look like it had two layers and an intricately designed belt that would go around Kala's waist. There was also a pair of simple white shoes that rested beside the dress with the gold bands and belt.

The elder dragoness then looked back at the girls as they worked away on the accessories and tilted her head curiously once more.

"And what of the things you girls are working on?" She asked.

"The flower crown Nanna is working on usually replaces the kransen of the bride. But since Kala doesn't wear one, it's just a formality thing. As for the cloak Ruffnut and I are putting together, it's just because it's winter right now. We're just making it so that Kala has more layers for warmth." Heather explained as she began to sew in the metal fasteners which were made of gold and had Night Furies engraved into the circles that would rest on the front side of Kala's shoulders.

Nanna and Ruffnut nodded in agreement as they finished up their work and Revna nodded in understanding.

"I see. Have you three been to many weddings before?"

All four girls looked at one another then back at Revna.

"Heather and I were wed almost four years ago now." Nanna said with an embarrassed blush. "So we all know how these things go since this happened twice back then."

"Oh? I had no idea you humans were alright with same gender relationships." The elder dragoness said in surprise.

"Yeah. It's not that common, but it's not frowned upon in the slightest. There are even some tribes that are purely one gender and chalk full of same gender couples. It honestly just depends on what tribe you are part of or the area you live." Heather said with a shrug as she added the chain to the cloak as Ruffnut handed it to her.

Kala dunked her head under the water and scrubbed at her face to wash away any dirt or tear stains, then ran her fingers through her hair to make sure everything was washed away properly and that there were no more tangles. She then stood and rung out her hair, which now rested where her shoulder blades ended, and stepped out of the tub.

Revna smiled and handed her a cloth so she could dry herself. Kala took it gratefully and began to rub off the water from her body, making sure that every area was thoroughly dry before she began to dry her hair with the same cloth.

As Kala was drying off, Revna picked up the dress and waited patiently for her daughter to finish. Once she was, she allowed Revna to help her into the dress. She pulled it over Kala's head and worked her arms into the sleeves, Kala then held onto her shoulders as the dress was pulled down her body and smoothed out.

Revna gave her a warm smile as she backed away and smoothed out the shoulders and sleeves for her. She then grabbed the belt and fastened it around the young Night Fury's waist and situated it so it was centered properly before she grabbed the gold bands and did the same on her daughter's wrists.

Revna then grabbed the shoes and placed them in front of Kala on the floor, lifting the dress for her. Kala slipped the shoes on and sat down with a sigh as she absentmindedly messed with the dress and waited.

Nanna went over to where she sat and set the flower crown beside her as she began to brush out her hair. She then rung out as much water as she could from Kala's midnight locks before she brushed it out one last time and secured the flower crown to her head.

Ruffnut then held up a shined piece of metal for Kala to see with an excited smile, but the reaction the women got was not what they expected.

Instead of the happy smile they were hoping for, they got a sorrowful face as tears began to well up in the young dragoness' eyes. Kala covered her mouth as she tried to keep from breaking down as a hand went to her stomach and the others enveloped her in a group hug as they tried to soothe her.

The entire tribe, dragons included, had gathered outside the Great Hall on New Berk in front of the statue of Stoick the Vast. Hiccup and Kala were standing in front of the statue with Gothi a foot away between them facing the tribe. Revna stood at the front of the crowd on Kala's side while Gobber stood on Hiccup's side.

While Kala's attire consisted of the white dress, black cloak, and flower crown, Hiccup's was a little different, but matched for the most part. He wore a white long sleeved tunic that had gold trim around the collar and hem with gold bands around the wrists like Kala's dress, a gold belt around his waist, light tan pants, a fur lined boot with his usual prosthetic, a brown bear fur cloak that had the same fastenings Kala's did, and a pine laurel with crystals from Night Fury Isles similar to Kala's flower crown.

In Gothi's hands was a ceremonial cloth that had beautiful stitching of moments in Hiccup and Kala's life together decorating it. Some of the moments on the cloth were the day they officially met, the day their bond as friends solidified, their first successful flight together, their first kiss, their first ever mating dance, and last but not least the day they became betrothed.

Hiccup offered his hands to Kala with a soft and encouraging smile, which was returned with a shy one as she grasped his hands gently. Gothi then proceeded to wrap the cloth around their joined hands, then she tapped the cloth with her staff. The cloth fell from their hands as Hiccup removed one and placed it on Kala's cheek as he pulled her into a passionate kiss. Kala purred and kissed him back happily as she wrapped her arms around his neck, which got Hiccup to start purring in response as he wrapped his free arm around her waist.

The tribe cheered as the dragons roared and sent fire or blasts into the air in celebration as the newlyweds kissed.

Revna smiled with tears forming in her eyes and she wiped them away before anyone noticed. Gobber on the other hand let the tears roll as he cried of pure joy at the scene.

"Yeah!"

Snotlout wiped away a tear from his eye as he began to cry, trying his best not to to hold up his tough guy act, but failing.

Tuffnut noticed and opened his arms. "Come on, hug it out."

Snotlout buried his face in Tuffnut's chest as he let the crying win and Tuffnut wrapped his arms around him and patted his back.

Fishlegs was crying and wiping at his face as he let the tears fall. "Oh, it's so beautiful!"

Ruffnut grimaced beside Fishlegs and crossed her arms as she leaned away from him. "Gross."

"Oh…" He whined out as he clung to Ruffnut and continued to cry.

She sighed heavily as she reluctantly comforted the weeping man.

Nanna and Heather looked at each other with joyous smiles as they wrapped their arms around each other's waists then looked back at the newlyweds, their smiles never faltering.

"Oh-ho-ho!"

"Yeah!"

"Finally, right?"
