Hero or Villain, Both

Chapter 182: Goliath (6)

"You've become stronger." Faust said in a slow voice that seemed to have a trace of wariness in it.

I narrowed my eyes to look at him before saying in a similar voice, "You have as well."

The two of us continued to look at each other like this for a bit longer before finally Faust said, "It seems like I won't be able to claim my toys today…"

Turning to the goliaths, Faust said, "Rejoice you fools. If it wasn't for this fool of a hero, then all of you would have been turned into my puppets today."

The goliaths looked angry when they heard this, but they didn't say anything.

With the look in their eyes, it was clear that they recognized that Faust was telling the truth.

If it hadn't been for me, then they would have been turned into skeletal puppets just like the remains of their ancestors.

As such, there wasn't anything that the goliaths could do to Faust.

After all, they were scared that he had something else up his sleeves.

Once Faust was done taunting the goliaths, he turned back to me to say, "I won't forget this."

I raised a brow to look at Faust, but he didn't give me a chance to say anything as he suddenly raised his hand and created a wave of darkness that hid him.

The goliaths seemed to want to stop him, but they weren't able to do anything as the skeletons of their ancestors came forward again. They had been standing on the side while the bone golems fought, but now they came forward once again.

Seeing this, the goliaths really didn't know what to do.

With a sigh, I stood up and punched out at the goliath skeletons.

A single shockwave was all that it took for me to shatter all of these skeletons and crush them to the ground.

The goliaths looked at me with a complicated look, but they didn't say anything in the end.

At the same time, they saw that Faust had completely disappeared and the dark curtain of energy was fading.

So in the end, one of the goliaths came forward and said, "I am the chief of this village. Saviour, would you come in and have a talk with us about what happened?"

I shook my head before pointing at the goliath skeletons and saying, "We need to purify these skeletons first or else they'll reform."

All of the goliaths looked at the goliath skeletons on the ground with a complicated look before the chief finally nodded in agreement.

With the help of the goliaths, I moved all of the skeletons back to the cave and then buried them in the ground instead of leaving them in the piles like the goliaths had done before.

During this, I couldn't help asking, "Why do you leave the bodies in piles like this?"

"To be buried with one's ancestors, that is the way of our people." The goliath chief said in response.

It seemed that the goliaths were still quite savage to a certain extent that they could leave their dead in piles like this…

Once the goliath skeletons were buried, I went back to the village to talk to the goliath tribe.

"That is why I came down here on the trail of that foul creature."

"An entire world above us?"

"So this world that we've been living in is nothing more than a small patch of land under the ground."

"But the sun and the sky…how could that be fake?"

I didn't have a response for them since I didn't know what this place was either.

The chief was the one that stopped them from talking in the end by saying, "It doesn't matter what this place is, what matters now is the choice that is before us. Will we leave this place or will we stay here until someone else comes back to cause trouble for us?"

All of the goliaths had grim looks on their faces when they heard this.

Just a single Faust had been enough to cause all of this destruction, so there was no telling what could happen if someone else came.

They knew that Faust wasn't even considered that powerful in the outside world…

Seeing that no one said anything, the goliath chief turned to me to ask, "Saviour, are you willing to accept us? You said that you are the leader of a town that was attacked by that foul creature, that means that you are strong enough to resist them, right? At the same time, your town will have the resources so we won't have to completely start all over again, right?"

I slowly gave a nod in response to this, but I didn't say anything right away.

The goliath chief revealed a faint smile when he saw me like this before saying, "Of course, we aren't saying that we'll freeload off you. Our people are quite strong as you have seen, so I'm certain that we'll be able to help with various things around your town."

My eyes lit up when I heard this before I gave a much stronger nod this time and said, "In that case, you are free to come to our town."

The goliaths on the other hand seemed conflicted about all of this.

The goliath chief just said, "I know that this is a lot to think about, but this is for the safety of our people. Think not just of your safety, but the safety of our elderly and our children. We must think about how we can keep them safe."

When the goliath chief said this, it seemed that most of the goliaths had made up their mind.

I looked at the goliath chief with a trace of admiration that he was able to think this far ahead.

Though in reality, what I was really thinking was…

"This person's not bad. He might be useful in the future."

He was a bonus from this plan, so there was no reason not to accept him.
