Chapter 180: Goliath (4)
"Isn't there a more gentle way of handling this?" One of the goliaths finally asked in a tentative tone after a long silence.
"This is the only way to do it. If you don't break them down and release the dark power, then they will keep regenerating." I said after smashing another one of the skeletons.
Then pointing at the skeletons that were on the ground, I said, "You can already see them starting to regenerate, they'll have to be smashed apart again to release the remaining dark energy."
The goliaths had complicated looks on their faces, but they could see that the bones that were on the ground were indeed moving.
It seemed like the bones were trying to piece themselves together.
This was more than enough to show that there was something that was controlling those bones. It was most likely the dark power that this person spoke of.
Once they realized this, they gripped their weapons as if they were prepared to fight…but then…
"I can't do it…"
As soon as one of the goliaths said this, the rest of them had looks on their faces that showed that they were thinking the same thing.
I couldn't help giving a slight shake of my head when I saw this, but I didn't say anything as I continued attacking the skeletons that were around me.
After a long silence, one of the goliaths suddenly said, "Hero, please put the remains of our ancestors to rest."
As soon as this one goliath said this, the rest of them seemed to jump on the bandwagon without hesitation. They were all asking me to solve their problem instead of doing it themselves.
A grim look appeared on my face hearing this, but I just gave a sigh and a shake of my head before I focused on destroying the skeletons once more.
It was clear that the plan was working, it was just that I was too disappointed with these goliaths.
Goliaths were fierce and strong, warriors that were ready to face anything. If we had warriors like this, then the town certainly would be much stronger than it currently was.
But with the way that these goliaths acted, it really didn't seem like they would be able to help our town…
"Could it be that since they were isolated, they've only known peace and that's dulled their instincts? Could it be that they only know how to cower instead of fight?" I couldn't help thinking to myself in a bitter tone.
If that really was the case, then this was a perfect waste of natural resources.
"I have a way to test it." I was caught off guard when I heard Faust's voice in my mind, but after thinking about it…
"Do it."
As soon as I said this, there was an explosion of bones and dust that came from the distance.
I couldn't help shaking my head with a bitter smile when I saw this, but then I quickly calmed my expression as I faced the things that appeared.
It was naturally Faust with an army of skeletons that had suddenly appeared.
"Ha, ha, ha, perfectly ripe fruit ready for the picking! Come and join my undead army!"
Another bitter smile appeared on my face when I saw him like this.
"Aren't you getting too into your role?"
Still I just waited to see what the reaction of the goliaths were since that was the test.
"Who are you to tread on our sacred ground? How dare you defile the sacred remains of our ancestors?"
I was a bit surprised by the change in tone from these goliaths. With how fast they changed, it was as if they had become completely different people.
It seemed that the reason they had acted like they had was because it was the bones of their ancestors that were being manipulated.
"Well it's good to have this kind of compassion, it'll make it easier for them to fit into the town…but this kind of compassion will be taken advantage of when it comes to the wilderness as a whole…" I thought to myself after seeing this.
But in the end, I just thought to myself, "Well, I'll just send people to watch over them just in case. It's not as if we lack people to help them."
The power that they provided was far more than enough to cover this one small fault.
"How dare mere toys talk to me in this tone?" Faust said in a voice filled with rage before raising his hand and sending out the skeletons at the goliaths.
This time, the goliaths didn't hesitate as they did last time. This time, there was no hesitation that came from them as they charged at the skeletons that came at them.
These skeletons weren't even the skeletons of goliaths, these were normal skeletons. The tactic there was to use the wave strategy to overwhelm them with numbers.
But in the face of the strength that the goliaths possessed, that didn't mean anything. In the face of their power, they were able to smash through the waves of skeletons that came at them.
With bones flying everywhere, it certainly was quite the sight.
"Not bad, not bad. These goliaths really don't disappoint in terms of pure physical strength. They really will be useful as guards of the town."
I said to myself in a soft voice filled with admiration when I saw this, but the expression on my face soon changed.
"How dare mere toys like you dare to go against me?" Faust said in a voice filled with rage before raising his hand.
When he did, the bones on the ground immediately responded. However, they didn't form the same skeletons that they did before.
Instead, the bones came together to form a giant bone golem. It wasn't just a single bone golem that was formed, it was several bone golems that were formed.
The goliaths didn't hesitate when they saw this as they kept charging at the bone golems, but they found this time that brute strength wasn't the answer.
The bone golems didn't go down in front of their power and they were pushed back.
"Aren't you going too far?" I couldn't help thinking when I saw this.
