Chapter 257 Senior Brother Jin.
"The arcane reigns supreme."
The voice of a male student with ordinary looks resounded in the ears of Cimeris and Sanguine.
Having narrowed their eyes on seeing a member of the sect here, they turned to face him.
"Supreme indeed."
This was the motto of the Arcane Empowerment Sect. Sect members would usually greet each other as a way of recognizing themselves whenever they met.
On seeing the face of the individual, Cimeris and Sanguine revealed reverential expressions.
"S-enior brother Jin?" Sanguine, usually composed most of the time, stuttered.
Cimeris knew he couldn't be blamed. Senior brother Jin, as he was referred to in the sect, was one of the most powerful inner sect disciples and also a rank 1 supreme stage Ascendant lifeform.
During their time in the sect, he was one of the few people who assisted Cimeris in training, helping her achieve profound mastery of her curse affinity, as he himself possessed the same.
There were even rumors in the sect that he had a thing or two for Cimeris. From the look in his eyes, it was obvious those rumors carried truth.
Cimeris greeted him politely.
"Senior brother Jin. It's nice to meet you." Her expression was full of gratitude.
After all, senior brother Jin had done a lot for her. It was mostly thanks to his training that she had achieved her current level of strength.
He nodded to the duo, then voiced, "Follow me."
The two nodded, turning into streaks of light, following his departing figure.
*****
Senior brother Jin was currently seated in an extremely luxurious hall bustling with activity.
Several individuals could be seen inside, engaged in different activities. Some played pool, some poker, some truth or dare. Others were drinking and chatting, while ladies could be seen giggling at the attempted flirts of gentlemen.
Background electric pop music was playing, making the atmosphere lively.
"🎶 You put me down yeah 🎶
🎶 Ima get back up 🎶
🎶 Down down up, down down up up 🎶"
Across from senior brother Jin, Cimeris and Sanguine sat observing the lively atmosphere with intrigue.
"Why are you guys so tense? Feel at home," Jin said casually, relaxing on the couch.
Cimeris chuckled lightly. "It's not every day that one gets to see so many iconic senior brothers and sisters of our sect crowded together in one place."
Sanguine nodded in agreement. Most of the people in the room were hailed prodigies of the sect. Naturally, they felt tense in their presence.
Seeing the duo loosen up a bit, Jin told them to have some wine, to which they agreed.
Then he got down to business. "I watched the entrance exams. You guys got yourselves into some unfortunate situation."
Recalling how excruciating their lives had been after what Kailen did to them, they let out depressed sighs.
However, they were afraid to ask senior brother Jin for revenge. Kailen had threatened them that if they tried to free themselves from his control, the poison would act up and kill them.
This was why they had not sought help from any senior member of the sect.
"I understand why you didn't come to the Arcane Society for help. However, the sect leader contacted us to get rid of Kailen Darkhaven, as what he did was simply trashing over the image of the Arcane Empowerment Sect." Jin's ferocious eyes betrayed his calm voice.
With Cimeris and Sanguine pleased by his words, he furthered, "Actually..."
He stared at Cimeris with a gentle smile, one that made her heart flutter slightly. A faint blush rose to her cheeks.
"So the rumors of them having feelings for each other are true, huh," Sanguine thought inwardly. He was extremely surprised to see Cimeris blushing.
Senior brother Jin, satisfied by the sweet expression on Cimeris' face, proceeded with his words. "I would have personally taken action for your sake even if the sect leader had not contacted us."
He continued. "There's no need to worry. One of the rank 2 alchemists, a fifth-year student of the Arcane Society, said those kinds of poisons only work if the one who planted them is alive. So I just have to kill Kailen Darkhaven and you'll both be free. I will schedule a life and death battle with him and kill him in the arena. After that, you'll be fine. No one can treat anyone I care about as a slave."
His gaze lingered on Cimeris as a ruthless expression appeared in his eyes.
It was obvious he felt extreme hatred for Kailen. No one wanted to see the person they loved being treated like a disposable piece of trash by another man.
Jin remembered how Kailen had disfigured Cimeris publicly during the entrance exams, under the gazes of multitudes watching the livestream across the empire.
He had felt extreme pain and bitterness seeing her in that state.
As for Kailen, the only thing he wanted now was to kill him and free Cimeris from his control.
By doing so, he would also have the confidence to ask her out.
Plus, he would finally be able to relax, not worrying every day that another man might steal Cimeris' heart—the woman he loved—having made her his.
"He really cares about me." Cimeris was deeply touched.
If possible, and if she survived this whole slavery ordeal, she'd ask him out.
She had been waiting for Jin to make a move, but he had always hesitated.
This gesture—risking his life in battle for her sake—what woman wouldn't be touched by that? Was this not the ideal desire of any woman, to feel safe and secure in the presence of the man she loved?
As for Sanguine, he remained quiet, staring at senior brother Jin with respect etched across his face.
"As expected of Senior brother Jin. Since we were not the ones to attempt to do something about our situation, whatever trick that bastard can pull won't work. Finally, we can be rid of him," Sanguine muttered inwardly.
He was extremely confident that senior brother Jin would be able to get rid of Kailen. He felt as if a great weight, a shackle, had been lifted off his shoulders.
